Perfect Reason To Own A Camera Phone Source: Economic Times, March 19, 2004 When Lisa Johnson saw a man exposing himself to her in a parking lot, she reached for her cell phone -- not to call 911, but to snap a picture. The images captured on her camera phone led police to the capture of a former principal from a nearby high school. After his arrest on public indecency charges, he resigned. Cell phones that can take pictures are becoming a more common way for victims and other witnesses to help police capture criminals. Because the phones are so portable and always on, it takes only a moment to photograph the face or license plate of someone in the act of a crime. “I guess I was just quick on my toes,'' said Johnson, who lives in Alpharetta, north of Atlanta. “I had my hand in my pocket, and rather than hit him and break my phone, I remembered there was a camera.'' Camera phones are still a relatively new technology, but already police can point to cases where they have been an important tool. In New Jersey last year, a 15-year-old boy foiled an abduction attempt when he took pictures of a man trying to lure him into a car. In Pittsburgh last month, several visiting university basketball players were cleared of a rape accusation after one team member gave investigators his cell phone, which he had used to videotape some of the encounter. In Japan, an 18-year-old woman took a photo of a 38-year-old man who was fondling her on a commuter train, and police arrested him at the next stop. In Sweden, a convenience store owner took a picture of a robber that was used to help identify and arrest the criminal. “It's an excellent improvement in technology. Everyone has them with them all the time,'' said Capt. Robert Rowan of the Clifton, New Jersey, police department, which investigated the teen's abduction attempt. ``You have sort of a crime-fighting device on your person at all times.'' On the other hand, camera phones have gotten a bad rap because of reports they've been used in locker rooms and strip clubs to capture nude images that get posted on the Internet, said Alan Reiter, who runs the Web log cameraphonereport.com, which gathers information about wireless photography. Their real impact will be in the future, when millions of phone users will be able to document any event at any time. “It's tougher to escape with any open brutality or crimes when people are able to document what you're doing,'' he said.

Hi Folks, It’s nice to meet you all in this forum. I am very much happy that an Indian mobile service provider has such an interactive user forum. Nature and Technology have always fascinated me. If both are used wisely it will make our life stress free and enjoyable. I am a 28 year old male from Coimbatore, South India. Basically an automobile engineer, Worked 8 years for an automobile company at their R&D. Got interested in computers during my college days (386 & 486 era). As I worked with computers I learnt hardware on my own and did some part-time work with that. This later became fulltime. About cellular service, I have used all most all the operators in Tamilnadu starting with Aircel, BPL, Airtel, Cellone and TATA Indicom. Reliance IndiaMobile, a love hate relationship, but I am finally hooked. As everyone else I booked somewhere in December and received in February. Tons of problems in early days on connectivity, false promises, lack of information and confusion. But anyways I could not get away. They locked me perfectly with their proprietary handset and exit policy, where I would lose a lot. But I enjoyed the free calls extensively. So extensive that I could keep the phone idle for few months and take another connection from a different operator till November. Then things settled down, now I don’t have any qualms except non receipt of bills on time. What I feel is reliance failed to do their homework properly before launch, especially back office. But every other operator had problems but not to this extent. But what reliance has taken was a great risk, but to their size its nothing. And I hope they will get rid of these problems at the earliest. But till then the subscriber has to suffer. Mobile phone is not like any other gadget like a tube light or a television where we can tolerate some problems to great extent or throw it away. It’s a communication device, which is very much essential in today’s world. It has become an indispensable part of our life. About rimweb.com, I stumbled upon this when doing a search on reliance IndiaMobile. I came across somewhere in December or January. At that time there were very few users, so I left that and totally forgot about it. Even I couldn’t recollect the web address, when I thought of checking it out again. Finally I found last week. All the moderators are doing great job. Keep it up. Finally one small request, let the user forum be constructive, informative and resourceful. Let it help all the users to resolve their problems in a positive manner. Keep talking. Happy talking!!!!

Please don't believe all these nonsense. If somebody tells you that, ask him to show that. Don't allow him to spread the misinformation further. ****It's not possible to put use bullocks to drive an airplane****

RIM Prepaid to be avl in 500 / 1499 / 1800

Dear Folks, Let me make you something clear!!!!! 1. It's called debundling (selling handset with 2 pre charged coupons and 8 recharge coupons seperately). 2. Which is not authorised by the company, some dealers are doing at their own risk. 3. It's not available all over the country, some dealers are doing that. 4. And you will recieve incoming calls (within the circle) only for 7 months, (ie., 30 days + 30 days + 150 days grace period). Not for 1 year as I said earlier(my appologies for that). -

It's simple arithmetic. Motorola Handset + 10 recharge coupons costs you Rs.3500 with Rs.2000 worth talk time. So without 8 coupons the dealer is selling for Rs.1499. (Rs.400 talk time which is preloaded from 2 coupons by reliance can’t be removed). Each Rs.324 worth coupon got Rs.200 worth of talk time valid for 6 months. I enquired with helpline company is not offering the scheme, so dealer is doing that (he may be selling the rest of the coupons to others 324x8=Rs.2592 and making much more profit, probably because he is taking the risk). Anyways it’s really benefits both dealer & the user. I will explain you how? The user goes mobile for just Rs.1600 for one year, provided he can restrict his Rs.400 usage to stretch for first 6 months, anyways that’s valid for that period alone for making outgoing calls. Even otherwise no harm, the user will receive incoming for 1 year (provided he roams within the opted circle). So go ahead grab the opportunity!!!!!!!!!
