  2. That is interesting. So we would need to get it activated on Sprint itself I believe, but how to do it from India? Does activation work over WiFi? I have a Tribute with my friend in US, I could ask him to try activating it on Sprint and see if the Hotspot feature gets enabled. No idea how all this will work but he said he somehow managed to get it activated officially and that's how it worked. Thanks for that input. I went to Sprint site and completed the activation steps, replaced the original SIM which came with the phone and reset all parameters. (##72786#) Then connected to WiFi and it actually activated over WiFi (Took some 10 min). Now the Hotspot option shows up and no more activation popup! YAY! Now to see if everything works after inserting the Reliance RUIM

Of course it doesn't work out of the box, definitely you need to make some changes to enable and get it working.

  11. Is it possible to read the HDR or the EVDO password from the RUIM? Can someone please summarise the steps required to retrieve the same?
  12. Looks like I got data working finally, using the same cut sim. I don't know what exactly fixed it, but I played around with QPST and DFS without the RUIM inserted, made couple of changes. Inserted the RUIM and restarted, and data just worked. Summary of the changes 1. Changed the NV MCC MNC to 404 00 2. Disabled Sprint Mobile IP profiles and created a new one and activated with NAI as NET 3. Changed NV Mode to SimpleIP But the problem now is that the handsfree activation message keeps popping up, I have to switch to Airplane mode and back to remove it. Any ideas on disabling it permanently?
  13. I have two Moto Gs which are not MEID registered, so I thought if I can get the HDR creds from the RUIM I could use it as data only device and say a wireless hotspot. Is this possible?
  14. So I got the Tribute in my hands, set the mode to RuimOnly and the calls/SMS started working. But I'm getting the same message as @iamrafic when enabling data. Btw it is a cut RUIM not a micro sim issued by RIM.

  21. ^ Yep. IShop is better. I bought one for Rs 3352 and another for Rs 2618 all incl through iShop. yes,you are correct but ishop/GEB wont buy the phone as they both are same..... GEB uses ishop to import.... Well, it is available from Bestbuy or RadioShack for the same $39.99. You are not restricted to eBay alone.

  24. That was to disable activation . In some devices it doesn't allow to proceed ahead to root/disable activation till you activate it so .. Then of course we could chat with Sprint international helpline and get the SPC . Many have done this Ah ok. Do you know which all phones need to be activated to remove the activation popup? If so wouldn't we need need to do it from the US itself? Activation wouldn't work from India right? Anyway I think the Ting method seems easier, you get the device activated and the SPC in a min or less, only thing is you need a payment method added, but you can always use a VCC, they won't charge anything upfront.
  25. ^ But is there a need to activate before using the device? The Ting method was to get the SPC, I don't think Sprint would give the SPC on activation.
