460 kbps or 46 kpbs!

You're talking about facts and figures before the 500 crore investment. Let him fatten the pig first. :'( Although I once again say it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that he'll sell. Theres a reason why the Reliances, Tatas, Wadias and Birlas don't sell of their smaller businesses. Business fundamentals/laws has little to do with it. Although globally this (like GE, IBM selling out) is changing fast! But I do like all the speculation here. Pssst: Did you guys hear that senior Verzion officials were seen lurking around the RIM compound! (go bhutes go!)

Rs. 500 crore = US$ 111 million Crappy BPL sold = US$ 1 billion. Do the math. Its a teeny tiny investment.

RIM was one of the key reasons why Anil let Mukesh take RIL - since RIM's "potential growth" was valued very high. Would be highly highly stupid of him to run that potential into the ground and start from scratch with RTL. This is meaningless speculation. But to speculate a lil more... perhaps he would like to build RTL up a lil more and sell it of to Hutch! Hows that!

Longhorn Becomes Windows Vistaâ„¢
anujit replied to Vishal Gupta's topic in General Technical Discussion
I think thats asking a lil too much even for a resource hogging windows system! Especially since it has different "modes" of running i.e. cutting out on excessive graphics fat. -

UUmmmmm one shouldnt be bragging about Nokia phones really. Features likes this have been out on Samsung, Motorola, Sony, Blackberry and Treo phones for ages! Nokia has never stood for cutting edge technology, more for reliability and quality. P.S. Lemme know when Nokia sports a 2GB internal HDD or can recieve satellite channels!

Rakesh: It's supposed to be around the 140 kbps mark.

Good searching man. Trouble is that these codes are usually changed (especially the programming codes) for every region. So none of them work with Indian/RIM handsets. Thus rendering all your efforts useless.
-
Has anyone used EDGE? Is it any good? Which service providers are offering this now and where? And of course how much does it cost?
-
Windows XP has an impact of around 3.5k on the price. While it is a ploy to cut costs, the biggest savings come from: 1. Using Celeron processors 2. Further savings come by using AMD (Celeron equivalent) processors 3. Using lower configs (such as 128MB RAM, 20 GB HDD, lower graphics cards etc) usually stuff that cannot be noticed right away especially by a newbie.

There is no end of "cool phones" around the world that arent available on RIM. Phones with 2+ GB hdds, tv & even sat reception capabilities, 7MP cameras... the list just goes on and on and on.... but then again thats RIM who wants everone to have a 2000 buck phone and no more. Hints of communism I think!

I'd be very happy if Jataayu just let me open wap pages.... but even that is too much to ask!
-
Its also whats inside that counts... you cant compare raw Ghz here. For instance you'll see that a Centrio tech laptop @ 1.5 Ghz will out perform a Celeron based 2.0 Ghz by miles. They there are other frills thrown in and plus a small premium for SONY!
-
33k laptops are usually for Celeron (or AMD equivalent processors). The Centrino technology models come at quite a premium -- 50-60k I think!

I'm yet to see a real broadband connection in India. Real = freakishly fast speeds, cost ~Rs 1000, unlimited downloads and of course good uptimes, without hassels of having to live in the right neighbourhood/building. So I'm stuck with moderately fast, freakishly expensive, unlimited downloads, good uptimes, and extremely portable Rconnect.

Rconnect Hangs In Winxp But Works Fine For Win98se

Since your drivers are already installed try using DUN instead of the RIM Dialer. -
I have seen reports on other sites about the shutdown problem. As for the bluetooth... that doesnt make sense, because that would mean you can't use a bluetooth handsfree!!!

True Puneet the 563 is great but after 2 years one looks for new options.... and one looks and looks and looks.....!!!!!! ^$#*&^*^*&^*^&(^)$#&^$*^% RIM!

Mitul: I cant imagine you're too happy with the 6585, but why were you thinking about changing? Also can you download java apps into the 6585? Or use its wap services directly?

Did a brief review of the phone at a webworld today. I'm sorry to say most of my enthu is gone. 1. Price has now become Rs. 15,000! Probably negotiable but I didnt waste my breath. 2. Its too heavy to hold and play with. And whats the fun if you cant play with it all day. 3. The display is not as bright as my Samsung 563, which despite its 4k colours still looks like the most awesome screen I've seen till date! 4. When Rworld loads up the screen looks green and crappy (maybe RIM's fault) but not at all pleasing to the eye. All menus here are text and theres no video. 5. Data cables not available. 6. Interface colours could have been livelier! 7. Cam was kinda crappy All that said... the sound (a couple of ringtones etc) that I heard was excellent. And MP3 & radio support sounds good although I didnt hear it. Still I was disappointed. Certainly woulldnt pay 15k for it. (Sigh) I guess its back to my old 563 for now... till some of those damned GSM operators get worthwhile dataservices (read RConnect type services) I'm stuck here.
-
RWorld is supposed to work on the phone. Or so is claimed! Though apparently the videos dont. However the phone does support video streaming. So you might have to wait for RIM to get things in order. And the LG 6600 doesnt support RWORLD!!!!
-
Webmaster: I don't think too many people have bought it And those who have are probably too ashamed to.....
-
And the rumour factory keeps churning. Anyone heard anything about a Windows Mobile based phone being released? Tata has already done it.....

Anil Takes Over As Chairman Of Reliance Infocomm
anujit replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Communications
Exes switch jobs all the time. Salary is rarely a big consideration because the $$$ increase at very high levels doesnt have much impact. For instance if someone is given a 20% hike from 50 lakh pay check he now earns 60 lakhs. There is very little difference that 10 lakhs brings at those levels! The reason for change would be better challenges (sometimes promotions), tired of working at the same place for too long, and then of course (and usually last) $$$.
