If anyone's buying a phone in Q4 2005 --- personnal recommendation - don't go for anything that doesnt have EVDO.
-
I'm glad people are hating nokia too. And for good reason I must add. I didn't know they had battery problems too... I expected that only of Samsung & LG!! Could it be because of RIM???? Are TATA users facing the same problem? I don't think its a CDMA problem (doubt if any white skinned people would put up with this crap)! Or is it just that Nokia too discovered you can get away with any old s*h*i*t in India?

If you get 5-6 kpbs only... you're in trouble man!
-
Average Speed = 12.7 x 8 = 101.6 kbps Max Speed = 19.3 x 8 = 154 kbps So where is the 230 kbps? CDMA supports upto 155 kbps... though you occasionally see a burst upto around 163kbps.
-
Name of the software is NetperSec. And be careful about kBps and kbps!

As I said PLEASE DO NOT GO BY WHAT WINDOWS REPORTS. ITS INCORRECT INCORRECT INCORRECT. Let me give you an example on a dial-up connection using IE download a file. When the "save as" option opens wait for 2 minutes before clicking on the "save" button. As soon as you click on it you'll see your download speed showing around 10x and then it gradually goes down to the correct speed. Something similar happens here too. Download a good program for calculating bandwidth usage... like the one PC Mag has ... I've forgotten the name.. and see for yourself!

And playback Deepu?

I use the regular RConnect drivers and a cheap data cable with my Samsung 563. My phone also connects at 230 kbps. But good luck to you if you think you're actually connecting or working at that speed. Consider it one of the many flaws of M$ Windows. The CDMA technology doesnt allow you to connect at those speeds... how can you achieve it changing a cable

RIP is Rest in Peace or Reliance India Phone. Either ways you're dead.

I was just looking at the handsets on offer from RIM.... so whats with Nokia.. why do they have so many feature poor handsets lined up? And what is the difference between the 6012 & 6585 besides different plastic covers they seem to be exactly the same feature for feature. Both are 4096 colours, with 16 polyphony, no RWorld but RConnect I think is supported. One has a FM Radio while both have speaker phones. Is there any price diff between the two? If so why?

The problem with supporting a compressed format like MP3 is that you need a really fast processor to de-compress it in real time. I doubt if any of the current phones on RIM can decode a 100-200+ bitrate song. However most "can" support wave format because it doesnt have any compression... thats why they're so huge!

New “World Phone” From Motorola Set to Launch in China Posted Jun 1, 2004, 1:50 PM ET by Michael Sciannamea Later this year Motorola is set to unveil a dual CDMA/GSM cell phone designed to work on most of the world’s wireless networks—however, for now, it’s only being released in China. The ”world phone” will be released in conjunction with China Unicom, China’s second largest carrier. The company plans to launch the phone later this year with Indian CDMA carriers Tata and Reliance, as well as with U.S. CDMA carrier Verizon Wireless. Some telecoms analysts have expressed concern about the cost and technical performance of such dual-band phones, but Motorola insists that its handset will function as well as standard models and allow users to access data services on both networks. http://wireless.weblogsinc.com/entry/2126803923513224/

Given the memory, OS, processor & speaker constraints of mobile phones I dont think MP3 playback is very feasible unless supported by the core OS.

Help Regarding Outlook Settings For Sancharnet
anujit replied to rbdhoot's topic in General Technical Discussion
Its not XP's SMTP server -- I think you're referring to IIS Server 5.x. The default settings work fine for most. -
Maybe they banned you for bad mouthing them?

VOIP calls in USA & Canada are free anyways. Vonage is the best service provider for this. And it costs around $25/month for this unlimited free service (within USA & Canada). Problem with India providing VOIP typical protectionism that claims to "support the common man" but Fi_i[ks us all in the process. Also the current practical problem is bandwidth. You need internet connectivity (read real broadband) to be able to avail real voip services. Where do you have it here?
-
What has Reliance done?
-
The advantage here is that you have a stronger circuit. And 64kpbs usually does mean 64kpbs unless it is a SILL (Shared Internet Leased Circuit) in which case you're assured on 1/4th of the max speed only. But you also get a fixed ip etc that you need for a corporate perspective.
-
Ah yes the distance is from their base stations and you need fancy modems, installation charges, deposits etc. Leased lines are used by offices only as their setup and maintenance cost is very high compared to regular (a)dsl/broadband.

Ewww what an ugly phone! When are they going to take out PDAs at sub 15,000. RIM (Research in Motion) already has its GSM blackberry handsets here... its their CDMA handsets that really stand arpart!
-
I think you are a couple of zeros short!
-
RIM has launched refurbished handsets. A very good thing that took a long time coming. I'm not sure but I assume they have completely replaced the battery (thats standard practice but with RIM they probably sell old overheated batteries with new sets as well ). Anyways I saw that they have released the Samsung SCH N191 (a wonderfully beautiful phone - except for an overheating battery problem)! Its selling for Rs. 1500! A great deal if you ask me!
-
Isnt that highly optimistic? The price drops dramatically once its even 1 day old!
-
No abc... look at your rate charts ---- there are 3 type of calls - local, intercircle STD and outside circle STD. Intercircle STD is based on distance as is outside circle STD. So now you will be charged intercircle std charges for calling Bombay from Nagpur. It would be very silly if you paid intercircle STD charges for calls from Nagpur to Pune and local charges for calls from Nagpur to Bombay!
