E61 is the way to go (at least my way to go) man. S60 phone with mega support for apps. And solid build. Unless a camera is a deal breaker for you don't look anywhere else.

You might have a ricmail account. But are you using that account to send your mail? Judging from the name of your account pop3.ukonline.co.uk I think you're using a different email address to send the mail from. amitstg has given the exact SMTP & POP settings above. And almost no ISP allows mail relaying. Its a security precaution against spam and a ploy to make you use (and pay for) their services. If you want to send mail from another address... download a small (and free) smtp server on your computer. there are several good ones (including IIS that comes with windows). Theres a discussion somewhere in rimweb on that.
-
The problem you're facing is probably because you have SSL enabled. Disable "My server requires authentication" for outgoing and incoming mail. Also I don't think Reliance offers mail relaying. So you will have to use a @ricmail.com to use their SMTP servers.

eCosto only supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE. Looks like WCDMA or HSDPA is not supported. I cant think of a reason why.... especially if it's supposed to be 3G platform.

Yeah but watch out with Tata sky or Dishnet etc. Many building/societies will NOT allow you to install an dish for yourself on the terrace! So if you move around alot hiring a set top box from your local cable walla is the best bet.

Bharti Races ahead in numbers; Reliance Comm, PSUs lag
anujit replied to KumaarShah's topic in Reliance Communications
I don't think these stats mean anything. They're comparing market share in a sector thats growing a break neck speed. It is quite possible that the larger companies will lose out on % market share while posting massive growth (in actual numbers). It's a standard phenomenon that happens anywhere in the world. Big deal. But yes - According to analysts, the decline in RCOM share is largely due to its CDMA platform. “Users are increasingly hesitating in opting for CDMA because of factors like limited handset choice and inflexibility in changing operators,” said an analyst. - is always going to be a big big challenge. -
Network was working fine in Vashi though. Made plenty of calls between 6:30 & 9:30 last night!

Flashing the phone yourself wouldn't be advised because the new firmware might not be customised for RIM. I think flashing the phone is possible although when I went with a software problem to the Nokia Pune Service Center they replaced the phone instead of just flashing it (which IMHO) would have fixed things.

Reliance Communication To Enter Gsm Services
anujit replied to abhay's topic in Reliance Communications
Gotchya dude but what killer VAS can GSM provide that would threaten CDMA so much? I don't think either GSM or CDMA have a competitive advantage in that they can provide a type of service that the other cannot. -
Reliance Communication To Enter Gsm Services
anujit replied to abhay's topic in Reliance Communications
Abhay: Some GSM companies do offer some sort of "unlimited" schemes for instance Airtel gives 1000 Airtel-Airtel free minutes a month for Rs. 400 rental. Also they have roaming @ Rs. 1/min on Airtel networks. So scheme wise I don't see how they're any different from RIM. Also more importantly I don't think unlimited or limited schemes in India are driven by Operating Costs. Cingular is a GSM provider who gives unlimited weekend/evening plans. So there. And also while I agree with you theoretically in reality paan walas and doodh wallas invariable carry nokia 33xx handsets with GSM connections (usually Airtel or BSNL). -
Hey Guys, I'm interested in moving to GSM/EDGE for now for a number of reasons. Has anyone been using EDGE around the Mumbai area? Whats your experience like? Who is the best service provider? How much does it cost? I'm looking for unlimited usage or at least 1-2GB.

Yeah if you're downloading it why do you want to upload it again? That seems crazy. Of course you do realise that BPOs are getting super paranoid and if you start doing things against company policy you'll get fired.

That guy is a spammer.... wheres Vishal!!!

Here's why rs. 2 per hour isnt a good idea.... 1. Its a platinum plan @ Rs. 1650 a month. If I use it for say 50 hours I don't pay Rs. 100!!!! 2. You cant use a phone for 24 hours a day 30 days a month. These are Reliance phones.... they will burn themselves, your pc and your house! 3. The speed on these phones $uck and cant be really used for big downloads (as compared to broadband) 4. Unless you're travelling alot you can get a broadband connection. A 256 kbps connection which will give you a very constant 32kpbs costs Rs. 100-500 less depending on your location. 5. You cant use your phone for incoming calls. So to run the internet on it 30 days a month you need to maintain 2 phones.

Reliance Communication To Enter Gsm Services
anujit replied to abhay's topic in Reliance Communications
I don't know why people keep saying CDMA is cheaper than GSM. Airtel/Hutch et all have got plans priced at the same level as RIM (if not lower). Certainly CDMA offers advantage while roaming... which is significantly cheaper than GSM. But thats because they carry the connection over their on NLD lines. Still at the end of the day it's cheaper for the consumer. The only reason why RIM might offer lower tariffs in the GSM market would be to try and get a stronger customer base (while absorbing loses) in the hope that they can charge them more later! -
Compenn: All netbanking sites work fine with with FF (at least all the major ones). I've used it with ICICI, HSBC, Citi, HDFC and Stan Char (which was the only one that objected to FF) has now started supporting it.
-
Dude.... I can try to answer some of your FF queries (1 & 3) All the sites work fantastic with FF 1.5 & 2.0. I think you're facing some plugin and/or extension issues. Try using the USER AGENT SWITCHER extension to "emulate" IE and login to those sites. If that fails... I think I've diagnosed it correctly. You'll probably need to reinstall the Flash & Java plugins for FF. Also see if the sites you visit ask for any other specific plugin.
