Doesn't it cost anything (well I'm DAPO user so I don't really care). But since you need to login - they have already tracked you and can easily bill you. There is no reason the service should be free from the website. Secondly (and if it costs money) if your password is compromised someone can run up a hefty bill on your account using just the internet!!!!

And Samsung ones too.... India's a place where both LG & Samsung dump their substandard batteries! They were both pulled up in the US for providing such poor batteries... both in terms of heating & life. And both had to take back thousands of batteries. They sent those and more to good 'ol India I guess (Ambani's might have got a discount for taking those batteries). On the downside you can't clog up RIM's network by talking too much becuse you're phone will burn ya if ya do!

At 6.5k you're probably talking about the 6015. Which is well crap as usual from Nokia. http://www.nokia.co.in/nokia/0,,62432,00.html

Adwait: Thats true for USA & Canada too
-
Yeah of course Nokia Charities Inc. would give all Reliance Customers (who feel they have been cheated by RIM) a CDMA equivalent of the 6600 (which is currently priced at Rs. 14,000) for Rs. 6500 only.

I still don't understand why mobile rates are so high in India! Consider: 1. BSNL - probably had implemented the world's worst landline/switching technology 2. BSNL was grossly overstaffed 3. BSNL was grossly mismanaged 4. BSNL had landlines (dug trenches across the lenght and breadth of the country) 5. BSNL charged 33paisa/min (Rs. 1.00/3min) 6. BSNL (formerly DOT) was very very profitable Consider: 1. Mobiles use much better technologies that are more efficient, smart and powerful 2. They have less but more efficiently managed manpower 3. The have stronger management 4. The dont have to dig trenches to connect customers - each tower servers thousands 5. Charge 1-2 bucks a min (with more mobiles than landlines mobiles around) 6. They're even more profitable So why cant mobiles charge 15 paisa/min (ADC, interconnectivity and all other charges built-in)? Even if we consider the devaluation of the Rupee vs the Dollar.... still way to much I say!

Yes but is it just Idea to Idea? I dont see it saying Idea to ANY MOBILE!!!! Its probably like free RIM-RIM talktime. Not very useful unless your boyfriend (men beware of falling into this trap) or your office has the same MSP.

Ril Discovers 13th Gas Block Off Ap Coast
anujit replied to deepu's topic in Reliance Communications
Lots of gas was discovered in RIM's DAPO offer to... unfortunately it didn't make the front pages! -
No Swaroop thats a feature/flaw. Gmail stores its files in one single location (lets call it a folder) and attaches various labels such as "inbox" "drafts" etc to it. Hence when you download your mail using pop - you get both yur inbox & sent items downloaded to your computer. Pop cannot download mails from any other folder apart from your inbox. Similarly when you try to access your email using R-World Webmail it is using pop access and you see all your emails together!

It isnt? I wonder why Samsung doenst take much interest in the Indian CDMA market? The demand is good. They already have fantastic CDMA models ready (thanks to Samsung USA)! Very strange if you ask me.
-
Gmail has just started working since the past couple of days! VSNL, Indiatimes nope still down.... :'( :'( :'( Other pop mail works great now too!!! but doesnt save settings - which means I have to type in everything all over again!!!
-
BSNL is too overpriced if you ask me. Thanks to shortsighted TRAI announcements they're offering 256 kbps @ Rs 500 --- but ONLY 1 GB OF DATA TRANSFER!!!! Get Reliance Broadband if you can - their support & content will be much much better & of course 256 kbs unlimited access @ Rs 1200 makes much much much more sense!
-
A. Look at the volume diff! B. Look at the people we are comparing ourselves with. Things we should really look at are: 1. Technology adopted and how it fares with the rest of the WESTERN WORLD - not Bhutan & Nepal! 2. Teledensity 3. Rate of growth
-
Which is the best technology really depends on where you are and what your needs are.

Arun: Do you have a vsnl.net address? Is that working? And have you ever received the kind of errors I have on that account?

Nokia s**ks... overprices with zero features! They only have 4096 colour screens and 16 polyphony sound!!! Lousy bas$#%ds! The Samsung phones are the best in terms of quality, software, easy of use, design etc... beat the LG models any day. For instance check out the keypad on any Samsung handset - its large, well spread out and easy to press, where are LG's is cramped and difficult for heavy messaging! Also LG's menu system really s**ks.. try searching through your address book on a Samsung and LG (especially the old models) and you'll see the difference. But LG has been catching up with Samsung in terms of ease of use, build quaility etc (mostly by copying Samsung). Check out the 5k LG colour phone - it has duplicated the Samsung 563 menu - item for item. Where as the comparable phone for the 563 was the LG 7130 which has more "features" than the 563 but it just didnt have that polish. That said... LG has been catching up very quickly and now have some pretty fantastic phones... and if money isnt any object... you should go in for GSM model. I wouldnt advice RIM to anyone unless they see a benefit in some service such as roaming or highspeed data access etc.

Yes I see all that Chandra but thats for WAP access as in if I go through the Surf option in RWorld! Gmail must have some tie-up with RIM for providing this service FOC. As probably most of the the other vendors such as BSNL, Spymac, VSNL etc do. It is not expected that a person who wants to access his Gmail through RWorld be expected to firstly have a computer and/or be aware of programs on third party sources like Sourceforge and be expected to do any crazy php programming before using his mobile for mail access! Does this make sense to you Chandra?

What do you mean host it????

While prices of cam phones, colour phones etc have crashed... the Kyocera price has hardly changed. 35k is too much to pay for this phone... specially when the Sony 910i is priced about the same. And there are many many PDAs out there in CDMA versions the Samsung i500, i600 & i700. Then practically every Treo & RIM model has a CDMA version as do most Motorola phones as well.

The Acceptable Use Policy guidelines in RelianceBroadband says that they do block certain ports such as 137, 138, 139, 445, 5554, 9996, & 1434 for TCP & UDP. What is the implication of this? What are these ports used for? Do they block ports on RIM too? And along with this policy does RelianceBroadband come with an SLA as well? I'm extremely satisfied with RIM's internet service (not so much with their RWorld though). I have never got disconnected (as might happen with a landline), or faced connection problems (been using it for close to 6 months now) - I have just faced a problem once where I couldnt connect to their service for a few hours. In the rare event that I cannot connect a retry usually fixes things just fine. And my download speeds have never been less than 8-10 kbps (thats twice the land line speeds) & all at landline rates! How does the Reliance Broadband service compare to this? It is certianly cheaper than Tata Indicom who offers broadband (256 kbps - unlimited) @ Rs. 6000/month or BSNL (256 kbps unlimited) @ Rs. 3000/month! Is the service available in Calcutta yet? And are there any users in Calcutta? Let me know your feedback on their service!
-
I used RConnect last night - worked fine for me. Will try it this evening. Lets see. There might be configuration problem with your account at Reliance's end or maybe your phone?
-
You can not connect to R Connect using 0803671XXXX OR 0934371XXXX as your user name & password. Your username & password has to be without the leading zero! So its 934371XXXX now. However RIM says that you can use both your old and new mobile no. as your username/password. Perhaps ther was some trouble with the R Connect servers, which is why you had that connection problem. Are you still facing the connection problem? I faced a connection problem for a few hours for the first time since I started using R Connect (months and months ago) a few days back. But never before and never since.

If you want to send free Sms' around the world why dont you just use ICQ. It's free, fast, supports a million different mobile phone operators around the world, unlimited messaging, ability to receive messages as well as send them.... and has no hassels whatsoever. Oh (and this was from a long time ago) but if the person you have messaged sends you a response and you're not on ICQ Messenger at that moment... then you dont recieve that message... of course they might have fixed that bug by now. But free globabl messaging - ICQ is the way!
