Well the fact that it is a Govt. company just shines through doesn't it.... 1. Implements GPRS when WCDMA is almost on the way in for GSM 2. Takes 24 hours to activate GPRS - most service providers can activate this over the telephone --- "just switch off your mobile & then switch it on sir". Wonder what their service quality is like... does BSNL have a GPRS service as well?

The entire reason for broadband is that we need to transmit/receive MORE data! By putting a cap on data download (or exchange) ... stupid TRAI & all the scheming service providers have essentially choked the purpose of broadband. Broadband has to has to has to support unlimited data transfer... thats the concept of broadband everywhere and for a good reason too! And this happens in India only because crummy 2-bit operators in India don't have the necessary infrastructure to provide real broadband services!

Hi All! I have been looking all over for any software which I can use to download ringtones & wallpapers to my Samsung A563 handset to no avail (Samsung PC Link, Snap Media, Easy GPRS etc etc etc). Can anyone help me with this? Incidentally, I found a nice software on Samsung's main website called PC Link 2000. The version that Samsung allows you to download from their website is PC Link 2003 - India. This version only allows you to sync your phone book. For people like me who receive a billion messages a day, downloading my sms to my pc and deleting it from my phone is extremely important. PC Link 2000 allows you to do that as well as sync your organiser, tasks etc. Only drawback -- NO RINGTONE/WALL Paper support!!!! The software is spanish mind you. but fairly simple to use and understand even if you dont understand spanish, easier still if you have used PC Link 2003. http://www.samsung.com/Support/productsupp...pe=SW&language=

Clear your phone memory through the R-World Application and then try to delete them.

There are 2 definitions of MB/GB etc. One for memory (RAM) and the other for storage (hard disks, floppy disks etc). For memory - 1 MB = 1024 kb and so on. For HDD/FDD 1MB = 1000 kb (take the eg of the 1.44 MB floppy) Your "case" doesnt stand a chance because I GB = 1024 MB stands true only for memory like RAM etc. And your hdd isnt of smaller capacity... its just that system needs to occupy some space for the bootsector, backup data, filesystem data etc.

All RIM handsets heat up as far as I know. Including the B/w LG models & most certainly the Samsung 191 (I've used it) as well as the Samsung 563 etc etc! I thought the Nokia ones were slightly better. Its not a question of technology rather of quality! And very lil in India has quality!

No Hada, I'm sticking with RIM. I think its fantastic (except for signal strength in some places)! I want to upgrade my phone. Or since Reliance isnt offering a better phone than my 563 - A DOWNGRADE!!!!

Consumers: Cell phone service still stinks Published: January 4, 2005, 5:02 PM PST By Reuters More than half of U.S. consumers are less than satisfied with their mobile telephone service and give the lowest ratings to providers involved in large mergers, according to a Consumer Reports survey. Poor call quality, difficulty comparing service plans and less-than-helpful customer service were problems cited in a survey from the magazine's September survey of 39,000 people in 17 major cities. The survey results, largely unchanged from a similar study a year earlier, will be published along with a separate look at the merits and drawbacks of Internet-based telephone services in Consumer Reports' February issue. Verizon Wireless left customers in 17 cities feeling most satisfied and T-Mobile USA, owned by Deutsche Telekom AG, had the second best review from responses in 12 cities, according to the study released on Tuesday. Nextel Communications, which is being bought by Sprint, was ranked last due to network coverage limitations, according to Consumer Reports. But it said it only counted the company in its results for four U.S. cities because few customers responded elsewhere. Sprint's ratings from 17 cities came in at the middle of the pack while Cingular Wireless, which is still integrating AT&T Wireless after their combination in October, was ranked second to last according to results from 12 cities. Almost 70 percent of frequent mobile users had at least one dropped call in the week before the survey, and about 60 percent reported a call with poor sound quality. About 35 percent of people were seriously considering switching to a rival mobile phone service, but roughly half had difficulty comparing services and deciphering service costs. In another report, Consumer Reports said people who spend more than $60 a month for local and long-distance telephone services should consider Internet telephone services. These voice over Internet Protocol--or VoIP--services are cheaper because they transmit calls in the same way Web pages are sent over the Internet compared with traditional phone calls, which require a dedicated circuits. But the magazine warned that Internet telephony falls short of traditional services and recommended keeping a basic land line for emergencies. Its testers reported trouble with sound quality, incoming calls and setup support. It tried services from companies including Vonage, AT&T Verizon Communications, the cable arm of Time Warner Inc and Cablevision Systems Corp. Story Copyright © 2005 Reuters Limited. Nope Vishal... I'm a DAPO user and I've gone for the Freedom 650 data plan. I haven't received any ID. Tried with my mobile number, cciu number (on my bill) etc... seems like the subscriber ID is a 10 digit number. Of course "contact us" etc links are not working yet.... so who knows!

No. However I'm selling my handset are you interested?

I'm pretty surprised because I get fantastic speeds in Calcutta. Around 10 KBps is a SLOW connection on RIM for me. Usually my download speed is around 12 kbps and tops to 14-15 at very odd hours!

There are plenty of phones in the CDMA market that outshine GSM phones today. Check out the Samsung i700 & 760. Not to mention almost any phone sold in Korean & Jap market today works on CDMA and they are technically years ahead. We're talking about 5 mega pixel cameras. Watching actual TV on the mobile. Blazing data speeds, GPS and the like. In terms of technology CDMA is miles ahead of GSM. Too bad RIM doesn't give us all that ... or if it could it would be prohibitively expensive. I heard that RIM was implementing EV-DO in India (further suggested by its introduction of EV-DO phones such as the LG Video Cam phone) this year (2004). However haven't heard on that for a long time. Hopefully they're testing it before deployment!

Yeah webhosting through a mobile.... that sounds believeable!

Tanveer its good to know that "tits" will be available from Nokia in the near future! But cummon what a crappy phone. Howmuch does it cost??? At least 8-9K minimum. Its got an ancient crappy 4k display.... lousy 16 polyphony and NO JAVA support!!!! let alone brew etc. Have you tried it with the data cable -- of alll you know it wont support more than 56kbps!!!!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to everybody!

I don't know if any ISP offers static IP's to single users (i.e. non-corporate). Even cable, broadband, ADSL and what have you not in the US --- gives their customers dynamic IPs purely for security reasons. And damn right too I say! Why would you want a static IP with a mobile phone!
-
No reason why it shouldnt work.... of course no one buys from bazee because those cables are ridiculously overpriced there! The cable should work though. Why don't you download the phone's Contact Manager software from Samsung's website and try and install that... see if that works. Also RConnect v2.0 has a detailed help on how to uninstall old drivers. Make sure you have removed any traces of your old drivers before installing Samsung's Contact Manager software (although I'm sure its not called Contact Manager)!

Tanveeer it's there on my Samsung 563.... under the New Apps section (the 1st Icon). And I don't think they charged for sending MMS messages because you can only send that to other RIM users. They are charging for SMS --- probably because you can send it to any mobile phone (international even) --- and it's mentioned there that this isnt free. Of course the sms from the 93 Application was probably being charged too --- I don't know for sure... but nowhere did they mention that it would cost to send the changed number sms. I think that was bad on their part! Then again a whole lot is :-)

Yes its terrific I have been using it for quite a while. But dont install it on any shared machine! There are big privacy issues since this scans all your emails even secure web pages etc. so if you have any passwords in your emails, accessed secure banking etc sites and so forth another person using your pc can search and retrieve all that in 0.51 seconds! http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/conte...09032_mz006.htm I'm a very pro Google person! And actively support google's Ad Sense etc that they use in Gmail etc. But this is something that everyone should be aware of!

I've used my Samsung 563 with Win XP SP2. No problems there. If you're having troubhe with RConnect software why dont you just skip installation of the software and just install the device drivers. To do that just attach your phone via the usb cable to your computer. XP will detect a new device and ask for the phone drivers first. Just point it to the "drivers" folder of your RConnect installation software. Then it will detect a CDMA Modem and again ask for drivers.... point XP to the same folder. Finally set up a manual connection in your network connections. Select your phone as your modem, dialing number as #777 & give both your username & password as 93xxx xxxxx (i.e. your mobile number). And you should be up & running.

You can send an email from a program like Outlook after configuring the mail sender as your mobile number. Complete details in the Technical Section of this forum. I don't think you can send or receive MMS from GSM phones as yet (or even a Tata CDMA phone possibly).

Another overpriced, overhyped piece of #$* from Nokia! Lemme crib.... 1. The boxy design s**ks! 2. Screen colours - 65k - all other phones of a similar price range has a 260k screen by now. 3. Outside screen 4k - most others sport a 65k (minimum now) 4. Doesnt support EVDO! Any "state-of-the-art" phone released in 2004 should support EVDO! 5. No smart phone features! no outlook no windows no word! http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/nabc/pr...rod_id=SPH-I700 The Samsung I700! Now thats a phone!

You need to download the latest version of the R Connect software - 2.0 I think. You will find the uninstallation process detailed there.... you will have to edit some inf files & delete some dlls before reinstalling R Connect Software. Why they couldn't give a decent uninstaller nobody knows!

to settle it fairly they should give it all to ME!
