So I can buy a nice fancy CDMA 2000 1x mobile from the US (which doesn't have a operator lock of course) and use it here?
-
Of course the biggest problem is - NO IMAP SUPPORT! I got hundreds of mail in my outbox and no way to download it directly through Gmail - except maybe use POPGOESGMAIL! And then again my labels are sure to get screwed! I'm keeping my stuff online!
-
I got my pop access from Gmail today - and boy do they use the wierdest ports! And you don't need folders in gmail - USE LABELS! the best part about labels is that you can give a message multiple labels! something you cant do with folders... i.e. you can only put one mail in one folder.... I think M$ is trying to do something similar with the Longhorn File System or should I say the former-to-be Longhorn file system!

ah yes pretender PG SQL

It doesn't kill open source. I've used Linux and a number of other open source software - the only one that really matches up to commercial software is Mozilla Firefox (my default browser) the rest are long ways behind. And the worst part about open systems - no support! Commercial systems gives you far far better support - which is why we use Windows and not Linux, Oracle DB & not PHP SQL!

India is probably at the fag end of Yahoo's upgrade list. And why don't you have a Gmail account yet? Its the best - 1 GB, no ad intrustion in your mail, no popus, auto forawrding, great spam filters and best of all - LABELS!

Piracy is what helps sell software. Companies must learn to live with it.. the day they manage to kill piracy... they would have actually managed to kill themselves!

Yes you have Chandra, however I have not managed to get that to work! So its MMS MMS & MMS for me!
-
Hey I won a Music CD - Mumbai Se Ayea Mera Dost on some RIM contest!
-
I cant add it through Samsung's Software.... (although the software allows it - it is described in detail in the help file).... the option doesn't display when I plug in my phone! However I can upload tunes & wallpapers just fine using MMS!
-
You guys should try Sygate Personnal Firewall. My experience with Zone Alarm wasn't very good. Especially in a networked environment! It throws up too many messages and requires too much fiddling to work well! Sygate has given be me the best out-of-the-box experience... even better that NIS!

75% on Win XP Pro and M$ says they arent selling as well as they'ed like XP to! People with legal versions please stand up!

Customer Care s**ks big time. They rarely have information available. If they do have information available it differs from person-to-person. Call the first guy @ CC and he will tell you one thing .... call again - a diff guy will tell you a diff thing. This has happened to me on more than one occasion. And now I can't dial *333 either!!!! Of course the same can be said about Web world CC. I had to sit with the web world guys in Calcutta and explain the b/w to colour handset conversion scheme - from their own chart! the entire process took over 2 hours! After which I managed to walk out with a Samsung 563 phone! Because of their confusing policies --- they have managed to confuse themselves over and over again! What kind of training do they get anyways! Thank God for their website! Its the only place where you'll get some of the information you need!

20 models???? uhuh! Are there going to be upgrade opportunities for DAPO users!!!!

Samsung Colour vs. LG Colour: You get 2 batterys with both phones. However you get a base charger that you can use for charging the spare battery or directly charge the phone using the detachable (detachable from the base charger) travel charger with your Samsung Phone! That scores major points over LG handsets which have a crappy desktop charger that makes receiving and making calls impossible while charging the phone! All in all expect to be charging every day if you are a heavy user. For either LG or Samsung. Of course the biggest problem with these two phones is that the damn battery heats up making just holding the phone difficult for people who use it for long hours. I've got around 4-5 hrs battery for constantly using R-World content including downloading videos, surfing, getting strange error messages etc etc. on my Samsung 563! But the damn things heat up! If this was America (where LG recalled several thousand batteries recently for this over heating problem) things might have been different!

Spymac (www.spymac.com) has 1 GB space too and POP (probably IMAP support as well)! But its fairly slow. And the name is sure to scare alot of people off!
-
It will work on MTNL & BSNL's WLL networks!!! And even Tatas!
-
yeah they've probably discovered that you can upload/download ringtunes through MMS hence they've blocked it!!!!!!!

SCH 191 does support predictive text. I know because I have used the mobile! You have to enable it from your SMS options. I doubt if any of the mobiles have Group SMS -- i.e. you are able to define groups say "dirty sms group" and send messages to all memebers of that group. However you can send one messages to more than one person (max 10) at a time. No of characters is the same for all CDMA mobiles and a damned shame because its less than the number of chars in a GSM mobile! So most of the lenghty forwards I receive from my GSM buddies have they punch line chopped off! Im not sure about the PC Sync software - I think you can find something in the Samsung Group of this Forum.

Maybe it is paid now. But in my other yahoo mail (@yahoo.com) - this option is not displayed. I would assume that if the option is displayed (in @yahoo.com.cn) i would be able to use it?

Hey thanks.... this works great. Got myself a cool 1 GB Yahoo email! A few other sites that offer 1 GB are - www.walla.com, www.rediffmail.com apart from gmail of course. One problem though - the POP access and mail forwarding options are not working. I can see the option in my Mail Options Settings. When I try accessing it through Outlook I get prompted for my password repeatedly. And if I select the Mail Forwarding option - nothing gets delivered to my forwarding address. Any one with similar problems? Or a solution maybe?

RIM's upgrade path right now looks like from CDMA 2000 1x to CDMA EV-DO to CDMA EV-DV. EV-DV will offer freakishly fast speeds. As good if not better than WCDMA. WCDMA is more of an upgrade path for GSM service providers. Of course EV-DO is pretty close to launch in India. I think RIM is already carrying out some field trials and might offer the service in large cities by the end of this financial year, and already offering EV-DO enabled phones (the LG Video Camera phone is EV-DO)! Main problem however that EV-DO will retain as with 2000 1x - you can't use both Data & Voice simmultaneously as you can with GPRS enabled phones! And for people who use the phone for long hours on the internet - THIS REALLY s**ks!
