I'm not asking anyone to take any risks! I'm not saying - yeah Arun keep up with the post and go spend some time in jail if need be! What I'm saying asking is simply this - IS DISCUSSING CLONNING ILLEGAL! Is it? I don't know how it can be. For that matter I don't know how clonning (with consent) can be illegal - considering... If I add an extension cord to my landline at home to get a second line - is it illegal? How is clonning different from this? As long as I'm not stealing the line from anyone! True discussing it might lead to others misusing that information to do wrong. But people misuse kitchen knives to stab people as well... its no reason to ban kitchen knives! But I'm not discussing whether clonning is right or wrong (morally or legally)! Tomorrow if RIM threatens to sue this Forum for posting any article that critizes them - should Arun be responsible for it and should he be forced to take it off (even for poor network or billing problems )? It's pretty darn ridiculous. All I'm asking is for the moderates of the forum to have a conviction in what they do and not be swayed by rumours and third party inferences. Talk to RIM about the matter if you have to and get their views! And stand up for what you believe in. If you believe that clonning is wrong - why did you let people discuss it in the first place? If you don't - make your voice heard! And finally - I'm pretty sure Bill Gates didn't go to jail because the 9/11 hijackers trained themselves using Microsoft Flight Simmulator!

Well Chirag you're right - SPEND!!!! What are we earning more for? Working harder for, if not to BUY better things for ourselves. That is the whole purpose. Nobody works for the satisfaction of working - if we did we'd do it for free (quote - Dilbert!). We do it to get better things (material and otherwise)! Better healthcare, better education, better cars, houses etc and better phones too. I don't think you can blaming RIM (or anyone else) for offering you better products? Course you can still blame them for lying like a stinking weasel about it and hiding a million other costs!

I think it only works if you want to transfer data from a GSM mobile to a RIM CDMA one. You have to take your GSM phone to a Webworld (????) and ask them to read the GSM SIM card via a reader and upload it into your mobile.
-
Technically should be possible using the right dialer software (not necessarily RIM's)! But why would you want to do that? The quality will surely not be as good as that of the direct phone?

I've already upgraded once from B/W (DAPO - upfront 3k) to colour availing their Colour Hungama scheme - paying a diff of 1401! Is there any scheme to upgrade from a colour (Samsumg A563) to a Camera model???
-
Codes for Samsung A563 (possibly works in other models too)! ##2539 + Save key = Akey options Menu + 8 + * = Field Service Settings I've tried all the other codes for test mode etc for the Samsung A500 (US equivalent for the A563 www.a500hacking.com) but none of them apart from the AKEY setting works!

Reliance Profits From Users Loss (4 new schemes)
anujit replied to Greens's topic in Reliance Communications
I think its rather stupid to compare bundle prices, yesterdays prices etc with todays. If you buy a branded PC today worth around Rs. 30,000 you will get software worth Rs.15-20,000 free with it. Does that mean that the PC is worth Rs. 10-15,000? Of course not. Changing technolgies and understanding price sensitivities (plus the fact that dealers were ripping of RIM by selling the coupons seperately) and stratigic bundling enables RIM and everyone else to deliver better value to customers. People into marketing & sales who understand costing will be able easily grasp what I'm saying. People who bought the phone under the DAPO plan are paying around 7k for the phone because thats what it cost at that time! Live with it! Your PC/hitech goods will be worth half as much by the end of the 1st year and obsolete by the 2nd! People at techtree (probably sponsored by Airtel & Hutch) should be the first to realise that! -
I don't know how Clear Voice can be (not)supported by RIM. It is a phone feature after all something like one-button-dialing. Try it by asking the person at the other end if he/she notices any difference in your voice when you enable or disable it during a conversation (preferably with some background noise)! I can make out the difference pretty easily!
-
Yeah my friend and I both faced the same problem - keys faded - disappointing quality! And I had checked too - 400 bucks to replace a key pad!!!! Course when I upgraded it to a A563 they didn't complain about my keypad when they took it back (or that my friend's display screen was cracked!)!

CDMA has its roots in US Army mobile communication technologies dating back to the 1970-80's (first used around the 1940's though)! Voice privacy is a way of scrambling your signal for security. CDMA spreads a signal over a wide band range hence tapping is quite difficult as it is. Of course both parties must have Voice Privacy enabled for it to work (all though I don't know if RIM supports it). Clear Voice is a noise cancellation technology that tries to delete background noise from your speech (it works pretty well)! I don't see how either of them could be consuming less battery - theoritically they should consume more! But then agan with your RIM phone/battery you're screwed anyways!

well I'm not a real techie - but on my Samsung A-563 if I go to the Akey option - I do get to change settings for NAM 1 & NAM 2 seperately! And to quote my manual - Set NAM (Menu 9-2-2) NAM stands for Numerical Assignment Module, essentially your phone number. Your phone can have two NAMs. This means that you can have two phones numbers for using your phone and can quickly and easily switch your service back and forth between the two numbers. This option is not available on Reliance network. Do not change this setting and use NAM 1 only. RTFM people! And Chirag - RIM will probably never allow using both lines (NAM 1 & 2) - I for sure still can't use it on my mobile from Calcutta - simply because they can sell two handsets for 2 phone numbers! If they sell just one - then it will be loss! The situation is different for Hutch and the rest of the GSM gang!
-
well it is still just one phone - so and to swith between Line 1 & 2 and (NAM 1 & 2 - Samsung) you have to restart your phone - so both lines will not work at the same time! It's useful for when you have a personnal phone and a company provided phone - and you use one for outgoing/incoming during the day and the other at night (or someother similar usage)!
-
Line 1 & Line 2 is the equivalent of GSM phones that support 2 SIM cards. Line 1 & 2 effectively give you the ability to have two differnet phone numbers on one phone. Unfortunately RIM doesnt support it yet - and probably never will - why sell one phone when you can sell two says mukesh! However if you change the ESN/MIN etc etc for line 2 - you can use it as a second number can you not?
-
isnt that where your preferences are stored????
-
It's the equivalent of R-World - Reset R-World (or something similar) menu option in your phone. It just clears your R World cache saved in your phone. It doesn't delete any phone book, sms or any other data (such as saved videos, wallpapers etc etc etc) downloaded from R World.
-
think you're confusing R Connect (internet connection via computer) with R World (wap site through the phone!) Bored! And the light not working (its a bug not a feature )!!!
-
I don't think there is any difference between the most of the phones in terms of speed. They all operate @ 144kpbs EXCEPT THE LG CAM MODEL! The cam model is an CDMA EVDO phone capable of up to 2.4 Mbps. One of the non-EVDO phones might perform marginally better than the others because of superior built-in software and signal reception capabilities - but the difference will be very very marginal. However for the EVDO phone - you wont quite get 2.4 Mbps download speeds right away because Reliance doesn't support EVDO features as yet. So you'll be stuck with 144khps for a while. Expect RIM to upgrade their networks from CDMA2000 1x to EVDO by the end of this year. And then you'll see the LG CAM phone really shine!
-
right you are hritik - smart dude!
-
I have noticed on several occasions - after the phone is connected to the net there is absolutely no data transfer! I have to disconnect and reconnect to get things working! I guess too many people are buying the 100 buck cable and logging in through R-Connect! And whats with the R-Connect subscription charges anyways! They said there would be NO ISP CHARGES FOR DAPO USERS!

Software For Ringtones & Wallpapers
anujit replied to StaticElectricity's topic in Tutorial and Guides
Hey static we want you to write the same software for the Samsung SCH A563!!!! -
Let me understand your problem correctly - you are trying to change the number type of a particular person from say HOME to MOBILE - when you delete the number from HOME & add it to MOBILE it says number already exists. I hope my understanding is correct. It will say that because the number is written to your memory only when you SAVE a entry! So your solution is fairly simple - delete the HOME number. SAVE - the entry. Open the entry again edit the MOBILE number. Save again. Viola you're done.

THE TELEGRAPH - KOLKATA - 4th May 2004 DoT contests Reliance claim M. RAJENDRAN New Delhi, May 3: Reliance Infocomm is the country’s largest mobile telephony service provider. But how many subscribers does it really have? The company claims it is 7 million — and growing. However, a couple of canny officials at the department of telecommunications (DoT) have said if they work back from the revenue figures that the company had submitted to DoT, it comes to only 2.6 million. The DoT officials’ calculations are based on a pretty technical — if a little arcane — formula. The whole controversy rests on the average revenue per user (ARPU) — a metric that establishes how much a company earns per subscriber. Recently, Reliance vice-chairman Anil Ambani said the ARPU for its telecom service was Rs 523 a month. However, Reliance had reported to DoT that its revenues from the telecom services worked out to Rs 1,686.38 crore during 2003-04. DoT officials said Reliance ARPU for the full year would work out to Rs 6,276 (Rs 523 x 12). If the revenue of Rs 1,686.38 crore was divided by the ARPU for the year, the subscriber base would be just 2.6 million. A senior Reliance spokesperson said, “We have submitted to DoT that the telecom subscriber base is 7 million and the ARPU is Rs 523. We have not submitted a revenue share of any amount to DoT.” However, sources in DoT said, “The revenue share works out to only Rs 1,686.38 crore based on the quarterly average gross revenue (AGR) details they have submitted to DoT and the total subscriber base submitted to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) during the financial year. If the company's revenues are only Rs 1,686.38 crore, then the company has only 2.6 million subscribers.” Reliance, in its presentation available on the company's website, claims its total customer base is 7 million. ARPU is calculated on a monthly basis. This is multiplied for 12 months to get the yearly ARPU. During the investors’ call on April 29 for the annual results of the company, SSKI Securities sought to know from the Anil Ambani the extent of debt provisioning for Reliance Infocomm. Ambani said that the ARPU was Rs 523 for the financial year 2003-04 and MoU (minutes of usage) was 342. He also added that the total bad debt provision was Rs 435 crore, which is about 15-20 per cent of their revenues. Going by Ambani’s figures, the revenues should have been Rs 6,276 (the full year ARPU) multiplied by 7,000,000 — to give Rs 4393.2 crore. The operators submit a quarterly report on the revenue share to DoT and on the subscriber base every month to Trai. However, the quarterly as well as the total gross revenues submitted by Reliance to Trai shows a different picture (see chart below). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Of course in RIM's defence one can say that not all the subscribers havent been on board for a whole year. In fact most the subscribers came in after the Monsoon Hungama was launched - around late summer last year. That coupled with high losses from people who've abused the service (as in used & dumped the phone) - something that RIM won't ever admit - should get them a little closer, but not quite close enough to the 7m mark dont you think? Is this another of RIM's googlies!

Reliance Infocomm Will Be Cheaper By 50 Percent
anujit replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Communications
Incoming roaming isnt free for prepaid or postpaid! Roaming incoming is charged at RIM to RIM STD charges! For instance for DAPO roaming incoming is charged at 40p/min within the first 400 minutes of usage (it is deducted from the 400 mins) and at Rs. 1.90/min after 400 minutes. http://www.relianceinfo.com/Infocomm/html/...rimprepaid.html - all prepaid charges are given here pretty clearly! -
Reliance Infocomm Will Be Cheaper By 50 Percent
anujit replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Communications
Its exactly what I said Greens! Its the cheapest & best around! And the coverage is pretty fantastic too! A few weeks back I took a train from Calcutta to Madras and I got a signal at every station we stopped at - plus a few of the smaller ones we whizzed by! They definately have got the best services/cost/features around when it comes to roaming! My point is - if they have the best roaming services - WHY DO THEY HAVE TO LIE ABOUT IT? If they had a crummy 2-bit piece of service - and they lied about it one could understand. But its hard to fathom why they do so if they're the best? DAPO & launch nighmares have finally left them? -
Yahoo Group Site Not Opening With Rim Connection
anujit replied to Dhanvada's topic in Data services
http://www.anonymization.net/http://groups.yahoo.com/ STUPID FREAKING GOVERNMENT! STUPIDER FREAKING RIM! http://www.anonymization.net - its a nice site with a downloadable toolbar to surf directly without having to go to their website. or you can just edit the above link and go anywhere you want! I had no idea they banned Yahoo Groups! That site has a wealth of useful information! I'm able to access it fine via my VSNL ILL (formerly owned by the Stupid Freaking Government) in office! And I get all my mails etc from Yahoo Groups everyday once again via my VSNL (abcd@vsnl.net) account. They never stopped the emails - - even if they did block the site! When and why did they do this?
