Procedure To Make Magnetic Strip Cards Like Credit Card ?
anujit replied to manishag's topic in The Lounge
What are you planning to use the cards for? If it's access control then RFID/Smart cards might be a better solution. And certainly in very small volume as would be required in a "project" the costs would be fairly high for a reader/writer and a few cards. Of course if you're planning on doing something illegal to get rich quick can I be in on it too! Oh and Redshift: dude you forgot to mention what underwear you wear in your signature. -
Its restarted on the 6265. Wap was never available on the 6255.

Its not the best idea to disable extension version checking... well because some of them just won't work in FF2.0 (irrespective of version checking). If extensions are a major problem the best thing to do is to keep using the the older version 1.5.0.7 till they release the new extensions.

Whats wrong in hating India? or expressing it? Who made the Maharashtra govt defender of India's maan-samman on the internet? And "to regulate all such communities being in operation on the internet.". Yeah sure thats possible Idiots.
-
I stopped using it since the novelty value wore off and they started charging for it. Its very slow (though thats probably not RIMs fault), many of the apps dont dont run properly (mostly RIMs fault).

The (legal) price is usually US price + 33%. So yeah Petar you're probably right.
-
It costs US$79. So in India it should be less than 4k including all taxes.

That isnt the way it works. The option needs to be set only one for a particular ipod and PC unless you format your ipod. And the sync setting is stored by itunes & your ipod so you dont need to keep reseting it. Best way is to format your ipod (through my computer) and then open itunes... then it will ask you for your preferences and you can disable auto sync.
-
Check your itunes settings. I'm not sure if the latest firmware update for the Shuffle is buggy or not. In any case you can install iTunes 7 and update teh firmware. Also check your iTunes sync settings. Set it to manual instead of automatic. Also delete any "sync playlist" that you've created. Are you syncing with multiple computers?

I noticed this just today (but apparently its been on Reliance's site since Dec '03 or so they claim!), R Connect Dialer v2.0 has just been launched. Whats new - well for starts its got a bigger statistics graph (though no new data/functionality with that) and an option to select whether or not to launch IE after you've logged in using the dialer. Apart from that the program help is improved (actually teaches you how to uninstall the damn Samsung software!). Worth an upgrade? Well its 3.5 MB or there abouts and using R Connect it should take but a few minutes. Let me know if it has any other new features!

Yeah miffed as you might be, try talking to some higher ups in a "serious" tone.... a letter like that would just be passed around the call center and laughed at.

Krazee... while what you're saying is true... I've found that all the jar files that I've installed on my 6255 (includes games and some small apps) worked perfectly. They might have some hardware specific fuctions/commands but I'm sure they have a set of generalised commands as well which works across platforms. The only issue (for the games) was the screen size. But if you have games that run at your phone's resolution then you are usually safe.

Airtel (bharti) And Reliance Communications To Share Infrastructure
anujit replied to abhay's topic in Reliance Communications
Is it sharing CDMA & GSM space? Can they do that? Or is it GSM - GSM sharing? -
2 Mb/second Internet Connection @ Just 5 Pounds/month !
anujit replied to cracker's topic in The Lounge
I dont think the 2mb scheme is really that good because it comes with - £40 connection fee, £50 installation, free subscription, 2GB monthly limit!!!! The real deal here is Max- 16Mb, free installation and connection, £10 monthly subscription, unlimited usage!!! Wow. 16 Mbps - zero setup charge - unlimited use @ 900 rupees!!! -
Reliance is now sponsored by Coke?
-
Look for java applications. .jar and the like. Those would install on your 6255. However they cannot take advantage of wap etc. So some of the applications might have very limited functionality.
-
For simple problems like (de)activation etc they are fairly useful. For complex problems you need to go to guys futher up. These call center guys are pretty powerless to make decisions and I dont think they dont have managers who take care of anything more than administration.

It makes no sense that they have no royalties in USA which is the richest market. And heavy royalties in the poorest market. Are they trying to strangle themselves. And go to Treo or Blackberry's or even Samsung USA's site. See the kind of phones they have on offer. Most of them are CDMA. You certainly have the best phones on CDMA. It's just that they aren't sold in India.
-
The reason we dont have high end phones is because Reliance doesnt think too much of them. There are terrific handsets in the CDMA market. Check out the Blackberrys, Treos Samsung 7xx series and more. In fact Blackberrys and Treos are always released in CDMA versions first and GSM as an afterthought! Reliance considers itself a low end service provider and doesnt believe in getting high phones to the indian market. When I was buying my 6255 I talked to a number of shop keepers and they were telling me that they were really hesitant to keep this model in stock since Reliance had never sold a high end model before and they were unsure how it would do. And I dont blame them really. Reliance isnt known for its technology strengths like data services etc. Ask any non Reliance user and they'll tell you what the think of Reliance's brand equity. Then theres the problem of phone locking to the service provider. While US companies also do this, they provide significant discounts to the consumer (and recover the amount over 2-3 years). This makes it ok to haver operator locking in the US. In India the scale of economies being so much different, plus other factors (we all know the 501 fiasco) makes it difficult for them to do that. Royalties have really nothing to do with it (or very little if at all).

Bangalore has the crappiest speeds I've ever seen!!! You're lucky to get 4-5 KBps. I usually get around 3!!! Your phone isnt to blame dont worry man!
-
Question really is - is this really a workable business model. Do companies really think they can actually get value out of such advertising? Would people really be ready to put up with such ****? I know I wouldnt but maybe students wouldnt mind. But then the ads have to be targeted towards the buying power of students and such!!!

Prime Minister Earns 2000 Times Less Than Sachin Tendulkar !
anujit replied to abhay's topic in The Lounge
Of course Sachin will earn more than all the politicians. Until contracts need to be handed out! Then see where Sachin is compared to the politicians. -
A consumer court freezes bank assests of a company because of 1 man's complaint about a deactivated phone!!! And Anil being summoned personally?? It all sounds very phony if you ask me.
-
I'm not sure dude. But going by the 6255 I think reliance prefers to have it in a single colour. Maybe the get a better discount from Nokia then. And of course we all remember Henry Ford's famous quote for cheap mass production!
-
Wow and I thought Bangalore was bad. Dude, Tata Indicom has a great service. 256 kbps (consistent through the day) @ Rs. 1200. Bharati also has decent service (I think) but costs 100-200 bucks less plus the give you a free landline. And of course theres no download caps on either of these serivces.
