Further to my post, here is an update (withhelp of aircel friend) :- 1. For WAP : APN - aircelwap, username & pwd - Blank. Proxy: 172.17.83.69:8080. Charges 10p/10kb. All browsing & downloading chargable at 10p/10kb. 2. If u use Pkt Internet card, APN will be 'aircelgprs'. No proxy reqd. ALl browsing & downloading is FREE except for paid content. For eg, gmail will be free to download attachemnts, download torrents but if u download a wallpaper from a paid portal, u will be charged. U can use this with PC also. Create a conection. Dial no. *99#. username & pwd - blank. Now u can start surfing. Lastly, I was told that the wap & gprs will NOT work on BB. Aircel is shortly launching BB offers. So lets see how our techies activate BB on AIrcel with Rs 98 unltd plan. Cheers!!!!! Update : AM able to use gprs on 8830. Set apn as aircelgprs & it works wout Rs 98 recharge also, Also fine print says - Fair usage policy applies which limits all data tansfer to 10GB or so.

AIrcel is most pitiful service in Mumbai I bought AIrcel prepaid & sent SMS to 121 fr WAP. Even after 24 hrs - there is no response. CC is outsourced & have no clue to wap settings. After the brief showers yesterday, the NW went down at Powai. Now If I send SMS - I get 'Service not avaialble'. Message centre settings are correct but CC doesn;t know them Even if u call CC now, the all gets forwarded automatically to an IVR & if u make any selection, call is terminated. I guess I have to just finish my balance & then say bye bye to AIrcel forever. Dealer told me if I charge for Rs 199, I get talktime of Rs 249. However I got talktime of Rs 180 only. When I managed to reach CC once, the guy told me that balnce Rs69 is only for local calls - to be consumed within 30 days & won;t have long term validity. WAP I tried all gprs settings on the google but none worked. I guess gprs itself is not working in my area. I tried it in Samsung E250, Nokia N series, Samsung 3G, 8830, Moto Razr but same dud response in all. So anyone thinking of AIrcel RS 98 offer, just don;t waste ur money. BTW, Pkt Internet offer allows u only browsing with no downloads. If u download anything, it wil be charged 10p for 10kb. ANy billing unit is 10p. So even if u download 21kb, u pay for 30kb...Daylight robbery... I am sticking to my MTNL prepaid fr time being

ANyone has gprs settings for bb8830?? I tried AP : aircelgprs.pr. username & pwd : blank But I am not getting internet broesing using opera However display shows 'gprs' in small letteres Pl revert asap Thanks

Hi I read abt AIrcel Unltd Internet for Rs 98 pm on AIrcel Prepaid. Has anyone tried it with BB 8830? If yes, pl share what all appss works using Aircel Prepaid Internet card/ I was told that unltd WAP & Unltd Modem to PC mode also works wit this card Pl share ur exp Thanks PS also share teh settings & aps names - Facebook, twitter, browser, downlaods etc on BB

Tata is not far behind. Tata is also all set to launch similar plan during the month. However challenge is activating Internet on such plans.. Over to our Experts..

True.. I found crack util later & hence didn;t use it much as my Browser was already active using anworm..

How can we change the default browser. I bought this phone from Sadikk and the default browser config is "reliance mobile workd". Can this be changed, I am using Airtel GPRS for data. U need to got to Options- Adv options -TCP. U will find Reliance GSM settings there. Change them with Airtel GPRS settings. Do a google for Airtel GPRS settings. Then u can use Ur Airtel GPRS with 3rd party browsers like Opera & a new - Bolt (* For BlackBerry devices, you will need to install the following BlackBerry specific version: BlackBerry specific build: http://boltbrowser.com/beta/boltbrowserbb.jad ) U can also activate ur BB Browser using a awsome soln posted on teh net. DO a google for Anworm & u will find a soln to using ur BB Browser wout BIS/VES plan using AIrtel or any GSM perator wven if GSM operator is NOT offering BB service

Hi Guys Any progress?? For Testing Internet on Non-BIS BB with 1X, u still need Data active on ur ESN else no joy. BTW, I have Data active on My ESN now. So I am game for testing out ur soln for CDMA. I also have it working on GSM 8830 using MTNL PrePaid. I am using BB Browser, Bolt & Opera.

Hi ANy one knows Data settings for Tata & reliance which are pre-loaded in RUIM for Data Service? It will have ppp, ip address, username & Pwd etc.. PL help me with this info.. This is NOT wap proxy settings..

Tata PRL for EVDO is v9. It is already working in J&K and other North & East sectors + chennai. In Mumbai, Tata has lauched EVDO on data card & is known as Photon+. On BB it is not yet available due to Tarriff issues.

Hi Chandra Tried calling u but looks u r busy. I have 8830 which had MTNL Dolhin Preppaid card. I was able to use nternet till 2 weeks back & then it stopped working. What OS u r using? I had 4.2 & then upgraded to 4.5 - so I can use ppt etc. However my gprs stopped working when I was at 4.2.. So any wy to troubleshoot? Pl revert Thanks

Guys.. The phoen switches carrier automatically. Even in GSM there are many carrier pairs & phone switches between them wout useribntervention, Thats teh ibtelligience is the BTS & phone. In EVDO - it is TDMA tx to Phone & CDMA Rx at BTS. So ur phoen when working as EVDO modem - will work for data only..Thats the plan RCOM, BSNL & Tata are offering... Ur voice plan sremains what they are today as voice uses a diff carrier.

In 8830, Goto options>>advanced options>>>tcp & inputs APN, Username & paassword. U can goto BSNL website in ur circle for details of these inputs Else do a google for BSNL setiings of ur zrea. BSNL has diff settings in diff states

Guys.. The CDMA Opearors Lic allows CDMA operator to offer any services in their alloted spectrum including EVDO. Hence BSNL, Tata & Reliance have launched EVDO as High Speed data service by using one 1.25Mhz carrier from their allocated pool. If u recall, BSNL launched EVDO almost 6 months ago..

I instaleld 8830 OS4.5 of Sprint on my 8830 Sprint. It has been a week now. 1.I foudn memory leak to be a big issue. Even if the BB is lying idle, memory keeps decreasing. 2. If u change theme, u get default icons even if u had moved them into folders etc. 3. My TCP in GSM (MTNL) has stopped working in OS 4.5. I tried to revert to OS 4.2 but still TCP is not working. However my GSM SIM is working in Samsung etc for GPRS. So it is something to do wityh my BB Pl let em knowif u also have similar issues???

Hi Guys Pl tell me what is the final word on 4.5OS. Does it work well with 8830? I need a stable OS 4.5 just like 4.2. So pl let me know. Thanks

Just to add to above, I am told that BPL is offering Unltd GPRS on Prepaid for Rs 49 permonth with National Roaming. Alas--- It was Free GPRS till 31 Dec;08 & wet paid from 1 Jan'09. If anyone tests BPL Prepaid Unltd GPRS on BB 8830, Pl post the experince so we can take a call.

Be careful..Unless Sadik has already tested it. I am told that Tata & Reiance has locked teh GSM in 8830. So if u use Reliance or Tata OS, u may end up wth 8830 wout GSM. Sadik - Pl confirm if this is correct? @Mufaddal - R u the spokesman for Sadik? I am seeing that u r responding to all queries which are addressed to Sadik Or may bbe , u the CTO for this post . Ha ha ha... Just joking.. But ur answers are perfect.

Hi Nawal 1. I am using 8830. BPL has unlimited GPRS for Rs 49 pm on Prepaid. Have u/anyone explored it? Can someone pl chk & pot the experince here. I am using MTNL GPRS but is pathetic. 2. I tried using Google Maps on GSM as well as CDMA but with no luck, R u using Ggogle Map with GSM or CDMA? WHich Opeartor it is working? 3. I am Tata on CDMA. Tata is now activating BIS on 3rd party BBs. However Data plans are still high. I am told that BSNL is laucnhing BB shortly - befor 31 Mar'09. Hopefully prices will fall then. Hi All 1. All current deployments of wimax in india as on date from Tata, Reliance, Bharti, AIrcel (Dishnet) & BSNL are Fixed Wimax 16d in 3.3Ghz band. 2. BSNL did a special dela with Soma for 3 states - Maha, Guj & AP for Mobile wimax 16e in 2.5Ghz band which offers state of art Mobile network and new Laptops will have Intel chipset covering 2.3-2.5Ghz band so ur Mobile wimax, WiFi will be covered. However BSNL has opted for FDD (Freq Div duplexing) for Soma 16e which is NOT a WiMAX 16e profile. The BWA auction will be in 2.3Ghz (2 x 20Mhz) & 2.5Ghz (2x20Mhz) wherein only TDD (Time div duplexing) for 16e can be used. Thus India will have standard based Wimax nw which will lower the CPE costs. SOma CPE is expensive as it is FDD & hence is NOT compatible with Laptop chipsets. 3. Having said this, I want 2 know if anyone at Hyd is using bNSL wimax service. What is user experience with respect to mobility?? I want to know of Business 2Mbps plan. How BSNL is demontrating that customer is actually getting 2mbps & not less??? Pl share ur expeience Thanks

GPS works only in CDMA mode. For GPS to work in CDMA, u need to activate BIS plan else GPS won't work. GPS cannot work in GSM. Reason - chk sprint site. As Sprint is CDMA Op, it has enabled GPS only for CDMA

Tata has outsourced the BB actiavtiion to HCL. HCL support for BB is at 1800-419-0121. HCL has told me that for non-Tata BB, BIS or BES can't be activated. Pl tell me how & where did u get the BIS activated by Tata. Thanks

Tata has launched High Speed Internet service (Akin to EVDO) in Chennai, NorthEast and J&K. Once activated using the special PRL in these locations, U can get 800kbps+ when using data card or ur EVDO phone as a Modem. ANyone can post a solution along with prl for BB 8830??
