Will MNP Help "The Big 3 Cartel"?
sgiitk replied to ravi_patent's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
I was taken off GPRS by BSNL on their own vocation. Strange and the ways of God and Bharat Sarkar. -
So what is the latest - To do or not to do!

Docomo Formally Joins Airtel Cheater's Club?
sgiitk replied to raccoon's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
I have been on post paid right from my Usha days in 1999, except for a brief period with Essar as they then were. Have no regrets so far. have a RCom (original DAPO) and a BSNL connection. Just waiting for the 3G situation to stabilise before dumping the latter. Heard that Tata Docomo will also be offering 3G in UPE very soon (are on the Tata Docomo backbone). Also, they are offering a CUG + concessional tariff to IIT. -

TATA Sky+ HD PVR @3999/- - Is this a game changer for Tata Sky?
sgiitk replied to kesav's topic in The Lounge
Lucky you. As mentioned in another (not fully appropriate) thread TataSky HD is restricted to metros (and their environ) only. We upcountry yokels are deemed to be unfit for HD. I had also mentioned about the half-hourly hangs on the display/remote. dhiraj it was not just the Actve channels. This morning I found the system doing a full reload, took over five minutes. Obviously it found that there were too many bugs in the software. I checked on my second connection, it was functioning normally. Did not find the hanging problems after the 'self reboot'. -
Sorry to disillusion you. UK has has something similar known as 'Cherished Number' for ages (at least 40 years).

One will have to be a masochist to move from an Open Platform to a Proprietary Platform.
-
Neither has anything to lose. Nokia is in big trouble, and Microsoft Windoze is just zzz in the mobile market. Nokia should be ready for bugs a plenty. Microsoft are still trying to fix the bugs in XP (Vista and 7 are only bug fixes with the temerity to charge users by calling them bug fixes). Even today you see about 15 fixes a month from Microsoft for the bugs. I will hate to see a lovely hardware platform ruined, but then if someone is bent upon committing Harakiri!

Reliance Communications, Bharti Seek Early Exit From Rural Telephony Scheme
sgiitk replied to Karthik R's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
I am surprised since they both have excellent coverage in the rural areas also. With either you can travel across the country and not lose the signal. -
At the moment the government almost bankrupt they will try every trick in their hand to jack up revenues. All the printing of money to reduce the impact of the recessing is now coming home to roost. The argument will be something like 'With the cheapest mobile telephony in the world, surely users can afford to pay a bit more'.

When I moved from my Nokia6275 to BB 8330 using outlook express moving data into the BB was no sweat. Following the AKay/MEID flap I decided that I need to get my 6275 operational again. There seems to be n decent way of moving data out of BB to another format. I can read the IPD file using Amber. I can export a .csv file using Magicberry. The file can be opened in Outlook, but Nokia will not accept it. My son moved from a htc Hero to an Epic 4 in a jiffy, using his Google Mail backup. Any way out of my dilemma. I ended up using a backup from 6 months ago of my wife's Nokia 5230 and then editing manually.
-
et me repeat. I had no problem in creating a .csv file. I could open in in Excel. When I tried to load it to Nokia it refused, even counted the number of entries correctly. When I looked at the two file I found the Blackberry file had far more records per line. I guess I could edit out some columns are then should be able to transfer. funambol being Open Source is free not only to try but also to use. Having recently installed Linux (Ubuntu) is dual boot I am slowly getting to understand Open Source. I guess more than 99% of the stuff in Linux is free.
-
Found a open source software package funambol which converts almost anything to anything. have downloaded it, and will try it out.
-
I will try again. No luck in earlier trial. I have both Desktop Manager and PC Suite installed. Only I do not have my 6275 in my pocket at the moment.
-
@Genius: I wish life was that easy. Using Magicberry I was able to generate the .csv, import it into Excel and see it. But Nokia refused this .csv file. So I am afraid .csv from a BB is not Kosher.Looks like too many fields.

BSNL Launches Zero Rental Broadband Plan

Too expensive for what it is. For Rs.200 odd per month you get 2GB at 2Mbps! -
2G Scam: Supreme Court Quashes 122 Licences issued in 2008
sgiitk replied to csmart's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Sibbal had claimed that there was no loss to the exchequer. So how will he explain the arrest of Raja. -
If so then it is typical of RCom. No intimation to customers. They will send all sorts of junk by mail, but not this (or for that matter MEID stuff) by e-mail. Logic would suggest that they send you alternate data plans under MEID/EVDO at the same time.

Reliance Launches Rs.49 Unlimited R-2-R Calling Pack
sgiitk replied to confused_follower's topic in Miscellaneous
RCom is the second worst sufferer - only beaten by Bhai Saheb Nahin Lagega. CDMA in general is getting the heat. I suspect Mukesh may be watching the developments with glee. -
Smartphone OS Comparison - Which one is the best?
sgiitk replied to rajanmehta's topic in Handset Suggestions
An additional bit of news Android has overtaken Symbian as the most popular OS. This is as per the box yesterday. Details are also on -
Given the crazy costs of International Roaming what is better for most (90%+) of us is a good old Matrix card in a GSM phone.

Will MNP Help "The Big 3 Cartel"?
sgiitk replied to ravi_patent's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
This is one month of Haryana. Biggest loser BSNL followed by Reliance (both GSM & CDMA). Biggest gainer Vodafone, Aircel (surprise), Tata Docomo & Airtel. Massive churn in Airtel. If the trend continues then CDMA (and Reliance, as their GSM is pathetic at best) seems to be in trouble (allowing market handsets may be the way out). What was happening in Airtel - poor service + marketing hype! -
How to make HTC Diamond *228 Enabled?
sgiitk replied to catchbhuvanesh's topic in Technical / OS related
I doubt that this can be done by the user. Only the Guru's with special links can do it. -
Easiest is to take the bus to the City and then take an overnight bus (I hear day buses are now also there) from Majestic to Udupi. My son has done it many times, and cosiders this the best way. Of course the expensive way is to fly Bangalore-Mangalore.
