Dot Rings Mobile Number Portability
sgiitk replied to coolrajiv's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
I fully support Hetal. It is indeed a joke. If they are letting some private operators use them they are still to blame. It is high time that both MTNL and BSNL are wound up, or privatised (with or without merger). Only then will the attitude change. It will also be a salutary warning to all other PSUs. -
For users of Word there is a better way of storing the Rupee symbol. Then you do not have to go and change fonts all the time. Go into Insert > Symbol > More Symbols > Select the Symbol by selecting the font and the character. Now in future you just do Insert Symbol and double click on it. I have tested this with Office 2007 and 2010. Almost all of us will be using the symbol often enough for it not to drop off the symbols list! Note added- One small problem: You cannot do a Find & Replace and change Rs. to the Rupee symbol. It works only on the active font.

While waiting for a proper font implementation, a good approximation will be the letter 'Ra' with strikeout!

Dot Rings Mobile Number Portability

As long as Mera Telephone Nahin Lagta and Bhai Saheb Nahin Lagega are there forget MNP. They know customers will vanish in droves. -
Nice design. When do we see it incorporated into Fonts?

If the mini USB connector is the same as with BB (likely to be since BB and Garmin UPS are the same) then an inexpensive (Rs.199 on eBay) BB charger should do nicely.

How Can I Transfer My Nokia Contacts (Csv) Into Blackberry
sgiitk replied to amit9000's topic in BlackBerry
Outlook is a nifty way of cross transferring information. Just note the number(s) that outlook does not pick up and then enter them by hand. -
I have had the 6275 for over three and a half years. What I find useful is to periodically (say once a fortnight) switch it off and on again. Seems to reduce all sorts of problems dramatically.

Windows 8 To Focus On Faster Boot Times, Logins
sgiitk replied to ::Hitesh::'s topic in General Technical Discussion
Yes Linux is great but not all applications are on Linux. Over 90% of the world is on WIndoze and we just cannot wish it away. This is why Lindows like stuff attracts me - Linux stability on Windows. -
BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government

I think the security chaps are being paranoid. I wish someone ticks them off as in the 26/11 when the judge said that scribbled maps in the days of GPS are ..... Sorry I had put in the wrong date. Thanks tanveer -
Indian Mobile Brands Begin Challenging The Biggies
sgiitk replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
I am intrigued by the term Indian brands. How many are made in India and how many use the now famous Sticker Technology? -

I understand that the EVDO stuff is being sourced from Huawei by both Tata and Reliance. -

I still think something like Lindows is what we need. This for those who may not be aware was project to put a Windows front end on Linux internals. -
Please Stop Over Commercialisation Of Our Forum...
sgiitk replied to dkaile's topic in Forum Feedback
We must remember a few things: The availability of high end phones from the 'official channel' is poor and they are frighteningly over priced. Support is almost non-existent. This forum addresses both these issues. Keeping this in mind I do not think it is over commercialised. What is useful and what is useless is a matter of opinion. -
This applies to the ringtones and screen savers which are copyrighted. I never bother. PC Suite gets the rest.

Only to be expected, once the OS has stabilized. Also, saw today that Google is dumping Windows as an OS for their internal computers due to secority concerns. I guess it will be Linux.

Dot Rings Mobile Number Portability
sgiitk replied to coolrajiv's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
When it works, that is? I was in Ladakh for five days - first two days BSNL network was down, then connections were dodgy and intermittent at best. -
I am also not too keen on 3G for the moment. BSNL services are junk - they were off for four days in Leh and then intermittent. If I called my daughter (974 Kolkata) I got network error, and she got a missed call. sms was not sent as per my phone while she received it. Took six attempts (repeated disconnects) to talk to my son (Reliance Karnataka. I am just waiting for number portability to come in before getting rid of my BSNL connection. Reliance is great - I hear they are putting up towers in Kashmir as well and should be there soon. Also, BSNL 3G will not work in MTNL area! I guess the Telcos will go for aome sort of roaming arrangements on 3G also for an effective Pan India footprint.

Let me repeat what I have said before: According to the Shastras: Samay Anadi Anant Hai - Time is immortal. Now BSNL will be in a shock - how to pay for 3G? Incidentally, heard that BSNL EVDO will not work is MTNL territory! -
Reliance Communications In Talks With Cdma/gsm Handset Companies For Android Phones

Well this is where Saadikk, Mufaddal and dheeraj et al come to our rescue. Agreed 200% -
How many Ghotala's do we need to talk about. I think we are reaching a stage where the list of 'not ghotalas' may be shorter. We had the Bhalu eating up our roads, Raja playing his game. The next one coming up, release of Kasab in exchange for a minister's poodle. Nehru was right. When asked why ar you friendly with Birla, etc. He replied 'They have less reason to be corrupt'.
-
I understand that both Tata have the same source, and hence in terms of quality should be the same. Quality of service depends a lot on your location - R is more widespread. Maybe we should wait till the 3G auctions are over. Then HSPDA will also be legal!

I am a canon lover (started with S45....). I will only buy a unit which takes penlight cells. You can always get Eneloop so that they do not discharge. This was you always have a backup with penlights. Also, a few years down the line they cannot just put you into trouble with 'Sorry sir, that model is out of production, so we cannot give you a battery'.

BSNL Broadband Promotional Scheme To Offer Double Bandwidth Speed
sgiitk replied to ayaz_cool's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
BSNL stands for Bhai saheb Nahin Lagega. Barring a few places the service is unreliable (intermittent) and nobody cares if you complain. I am going to surrender my BSNL broadband in the next two months (as the annual subscription expires) and go for an EVDO from either Reliance or Tata. -
I was able to get an original BL6C last year from eBay, no hassles. First I got a Jaipur vendor, and the packet arrived without the battery. Got a refund through Paisa Pay. The got another chap (I think Mumbai) and the battery came by Blue Dart. Original, no problems. Try eBay.in
