When can we expect its CDMA cousin? Any ideas.
-
This is for our safty how can we knew our password leaked or not. If you login then you will normally get the time of the last login. Also, if nothing has happened so far, then most probably you are safe.

A small bit of info - OT Nokia 6275 gets hot and resets after about 25 minutes esp. on a conference call. So I am told

Why only Airtel. Given a whiff of a chance they will all rip you off!!!!
-
It is not a bad idea to keep changing your passwords, however, when you look in the context of millions of google mail users the numbers leaked are very small.

The linked payment etc. site is a pain in the .... Very erratic and unfriendly. Also, full of mistakes. If your 'lost password' question is date of birth it asks for dob in mm/dd/yyyy format but works on dd/mm/yyyy! Had a very tough time switching and had to get CS involved three times.

Discuss Here All The Problems With Blackberry.....
sgiitk replied to amit.shippie's topic in BlackBerry
Is it a correct assumption that a Blackberry flashed with the Reliance BIOS will be functionally indistinguishable from an identical unit bought from Reliance. -
Excellent news. I would have loved Google to pick up the (unfortunately) now defunct Lindows project (Windows with Linux underpinnings) and take it to the logical conclusion. Then the Open Source would automatically have beeen integrated with Linux.

Very simple. If you want any info on EVDO from Tata all you get is a form, with a we will get in touch with you. That never happens. In one cae I got an ack saying w3e will revert to you.. still waiting. try the Reliance site and you get into an almost endless loop. No real information about tariff, module charges, locations, etc. As for BSNL it is not called 'Bhai Saheb Nahin Lagega' for nothing. The site may not have been updated for half a century (oops year). Is it not like mama bear guarding the honey! In any case BSNL will be my last choice. I have a fixed line broadband and it often conks out from 18:00 to 22:00. I still have no information on where to complain. The ultimate arbiter of BSNL (the lineman) thinks that half a dozen twisted joints on the cable are normal. I managed to install a small junction box on my wall, but they insist on not using the Krone connection, and twist the wires together. I am waiting for Airtel to come to my area and it will be adieu Bharat sarkar.

The firms seem to guarding EVDO pricing and service rates like mama bear. What are the options and damages. Also, how is the service? I understand the choice is between BSNL, Reliance & Tata or are there more present or imminent in the market.

I am sure our Guru's will have 'cracked' it in at most a week. Also, it may not be a bad idea to wait for the universal charger connector show its face.

Best of Luck. You are dealing with Bharat Sarkar here!

Sc Issues Notice To Centre, J&k State Govt Over Pre-paid Ban
sgiitk replied to kesav's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
I am not that informed about the security issues - real or imagined. I am quite chuffed up about the recent arbitrary, abrupt, and high handed behaviour of the govt. in many matters. -
Locked handsets have a place where they are heavily discounted as part of a plan over a pre-agreed time. In India where almost nobody buys then they are monopolistic and a form of usury!

I have also found Canon microcontrast much better then the others - result sharper looking pictures. I think the new Nikons should be about the same. As for Panasonic they have a Leica lens, I do not know the rest. I would advise go for a camera which takes AA batteries, rather than custom batteries. I you want to buy mail order have a look at www.jjmehta.com. My experience (of half a dozen purchases) suggests they are excellent.

'telcos Inflating Subscriber Base'
sgiitk replied to Himanshu Singh's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Over reporting is a fairly common practice and has been going on for ages. After all you size is perceived by the number of subscribers. This number often includes passive/inactive customers, SIM/UIMs sitting with dealers/distributors, etc. -
@dkaile: Even though I am considered a PC Guru I will not risk a mobile phone at this point of time. May be in a couple of years!
-
OT: 1. What is the home of Touch - Sweden or China? Looks like the latter. 2. Some long term user reports. 3. Are the htc phones from their dealers cracked/customised for Reliance or is the software easily available?
-
Also, I am happy with the new interface but miss the option of looking up on the threads where I have been active,

If you see the bar on the top it has you logged in (at least FF does) but still asks for a login. If you say 'cancel' it still is Ok with you logged in!

ECNR status is now default. However, you have to still provide the documents. Our recent experiences with two passport renewals (no chnage of address so no police inquiry). 1, My wife, applied in October. Got it within three weeks. However, ECR was put though by age she should have been exempt. Applied for correction. Got the PP back within a fortnight. 2. My daughter: applied in February. The passport was issued in April and sent to our old address (which had been amended in the old passport two years ago). The new occupant sent it back. Contact a senior IFS officer. He followed up, and a fresh one was issued within two weeks, with teh correct address. A real bad one of a colleague: He applied personally. Being over 60 he went to the Sr citizens Queue. No rush, very polite. Submitted everything. Took three montsh for the PP (maybe his being a Kashmiri - though from Kanpur was the reason). His address was wrong ITI instead of IIT. Took him umpteen trips and almost six months for the correction.

I will be surprised if there are issues with the phone. I guess it is a standard unit with a CDMA front end in place of GSM. Of late I am experiencing voice break up. Obvious - this is how CDMA indicates a network overload, and this is Deepawali!

@Greens: Many people reckon Sharp make the best LCD screens. The rest is straight forward so I think you have made an excellent choice.

Prepaid Connection Likely To Be Banned In J&k
sgiitk replied to anshu_s09's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Were prepaids not banned there. Last I heard was that any visitor to J&K had to be a postpaid subscriber, otherwise his handset will not work, i.e. if roaming in J&K you had to be a postpaid subscriber! -
I am not sure whether an inbuilt DVD player is good or bad. I do not see technology standing still for the next 10 years. This is what a TV can be expected to last. Does it support BluRay which is already here.
