@aalok; I agree 100%. I have +91 in the majority of my numbers with no issues in calling. I have the same settings as you suggest. Only occasionally I have problems with sms, even a 0 prefix does not work. I now I use Handcent and whenever this is happening manually remove the +91 or 0 from the number. Apparently, you cna sms anywhere in India without a 0 prefix.
-
I have +91 prefix on most of my contacts on my Incredible 2. No problems call. Assisted dialling off, country set to India (404). Automatically converts +91 to 0091!.
-
I hear now on the Incredible 2 it only works with Gingerbread. So those with Froyo (OTA is not available in India) will be stuck.

When a giant who is so iconic hangs up his boots things will change. When Jobs quit (or was forced to quit) Apple was in the dumps. He comes back, electrifies things and they are back at the top. I do not expect innovations to dry up immediately - there must be some in the pipeline. It is indeed a sorry feeling that we will not have Steve Jobs to look up to (and sometimes kick around), but then this is life. with his health reports it was on the cards for some time. Apple will no longer be the iconic innovator any more. I hope they do not descend to being another HP! Also, I expect their shares to take a hit, and maybe one day we may see Maple (Microsoft + Apple) or Gaple (Google + Apple). One can only dream.
-
Now you will soon have the new joker in the pack - Google using its Motorola Mobility hammer. Apparently, Apple may have hell to pay when they start unleashing their 1700+ patents!

May I ask the Congresswallahs. Have they forgotten that in the freedom struggle how many laws were deliberately broken. Have the forgotten Gandhiji? One interesting observation, the mood was far more aggressive yesterday, portraits of Bhagatsingh, slogans of Inquilab Zindabad and singing of Sarfaroshi ki tamanna .... Arun Jaitley was correct when he asserted that no politician alive today could have collected the crowds of the magnitude.
-
Excellent. I love the simple look.

Now we can see what was the force of Gandhiji's satyagraha, and how he mobilised the masses. Agreed the media was not there, and one could not expect All India Radio to be exactly objective. So it was the local vernacular press which did the job. One interesting question,"Were the Intelligence Agencies sleeping?". No wonder the same thing happens every time there is any problem. If as per Chidambaran & co the decision to Arrest Anna purely a local police decision.Of course it was still being claimed that the decision tor release him was again a totally police decision. Then what were Manhmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi trying to meet and discuss in the afternoon. Who is trying to take whom for a ride? Are we that dumb? Even the incident at Rajghat where 2000+ people congregated, with no prior intimation should have been a warning.

@csmart; I too had an Epic4G. No sweat with +91 on sms. Maybe I had set the code correctly to 00 for +! I could not get +91 to work for by BB8330 so edited all +91's to 0. The only point I have problems calling/sms'ing on the Epic was my daughter-in-law who has a 776 number (Karnataka Airtel, I think). It works fine with 0. I had once contacted Reliance CC and was escalated quite a bit. The lady there was monitoring while I was sending out sms'es, and finally suggested that I stick to 0....

I am using +91 happily in my Incredible 2. You have to feed the phone as to what + means. Once set to 00 (set region to India - 404 for Radio) I have no problems. sms sometimes fails (about 10%), but resending without any prefix (no0 even on out of region nos) works. Please make sure (if you have it) to disable Assisted Dialling and restart (clear the cache).

US will be Norelco. The nomenclature may also change. You can see the multirow cutters immediately. As for stories about beard getting messed up, they can be termed (not appropriately) old wives tales. I have been on electrics for almost 37 years, so if beard was to go knotty it would have one. I use electric every day (or even twice when I have to go out in the evening). There was one occasion about 20 years ago when I left my Electric at home as the place I was going to had very frequent power cuts (my shaver was mains only) so thought I will use a blade for 10 days. After the first three days it was hell. The skin becomes softer when you are not scraping it every day. For those contemplating a switch go 100%. The first 3 weeks will be hell, and then bliss. You and the beard take some time to get used to the new protocol. The biggest problem - learning to shave before washing your face!

I have been using Philips since Nov 1974! Go for Philips (Norelco in the US) any day. The current best are either Wet & Dry or 8- series. 8-series has triple row of cutters. My son and I got ours from Dubai a couple of months ago.

Tata Docomo On Milking Spree
sgiitk replied to raccoon's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Silly system - just confirms my view that Tata are also a 'near' sarkari company. In India we have evolved a code system using missed calls, and I have seen it in use right from the last 1970's on DoT phones. -
Hitesh; Yes. UP has an obsolete Form 31/32 scenario. One of these (which is commerce and which personal I do not recall). Of course the transporters in Delhi have two rates, one with and one without the forms! UP has done away with checks at every border. I regularly drive to Gwalior, and remember incessant traffic jams at the UP-MP border. Now they are history. In fact it has been calculated that the fuel burnt plus the delays cost many times more than the Octroi revenue! I sincerely hope that the GST does away with this. We actually get Akhand Bharat.
-
Had to pay Octroi (or rather Hetal had to) on a phone shipped back to him. They have scanners so need not even open the packet. UP may be Ulta Pradesh but did away with Octroi ages ago (at least 15 years). I am indeed surprised that MH still has this archaic tax. We are talking of a single entity for India (GST) and there are places with state level barriers (WB and UP are the worst by the looks of it), and even city level barriers. Heard ages ago that Octroi is the biggest source of moolah for the local mafia (aka neta).

I am looking out for Gingerbread for Incredible 2. Hetal has advised me that OTA may not be available in India, and I may have to download and install. I came across this link http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/07/13/download-exclusive-official-htc-droid-incredible-2-gingerbread-ruu-2-18-605-4-same-as-the-official-gingerbread-ota/ Has anyone tried it? dkaile thinks it should be Ok. Also, androidpolice - how are they? Also, I have never used to RUU route so can someone elaborate on it.
-
Excellent. When can we expect its implementation.

It is pretty simple to do it directly on their site https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/portal/index.do 1. Register your PAN. You need the PAN number and date of birth for it, if not already done. 2. Login at the site with PAN and password. 3. Select and download the correct form. For salaried it will mostly be ITR1. The form will be an Excel spread sheet. 4. Make sure you have all the data with you. 5. Login and check your Form 26A. You access it through My Account > View Tax Credit. If there is a discrepancy them watch out. They will only allow what is on the form. Save the form and log out. 6. Hopefully sec 5 will throw up no discrepancy. 7. Open the spreadsheet enabling macros. 8. Now fill up the form. 9. You can Validate to check each page. 10. Now 'Calculate Tax'. The last page will show up the refund or payment if any is due. If payment is due clear it up. You should be on Zero or refund. 11. Assuming everything is fine. You can print out the pages. I prefer this route to the 'Print Option'. 12. Check once again and then 'Generate'. 13 Log in once again and then you can upload your form (XML file from above). 14 Now download and print out the Acknowledgement (ITR-V) 15. Sign and post one copy as instructed. Print using a Laser or Deskjet printer. Dot Matrix will not do since the 2D Barcode at the bottom has to be read at their end. Sign in Blue. 16. Post in an A4 envelope (no folding) the the address specified. Hopefully you will have the acknowledgement on e-mail in 2-3 weeks. If nothing then post again. I am no tax consultant but find this straight forward. If you have a digital signature then Step 16 is not required. Registration and Uploading will be a slightly different.

Need 2 Minute Power Backup For A Led Clock
sgiitk replied to kkdeep's topic in General Technical Discussion
Clock being reset shown a malfunction in the battery backup cricuit. This should not be too difficult to diagnose and fix. -
Just heard one thing. TakaSky transponder is full, this is the reason they are unable to give ESPN-HD. The new transponder is due only in about seven months. My son is looking for something similar. He has narrowed down to Airtel and TataSky+. The former is probably more advanced, have the option of a 120cm dish, but service is hopeless. TataSky by and large have the best service. Take your pick?

You have to pay 30% advance tax by September (is it 15 ot 30 I am not sure0, 60% by December and full by 15 March. So interest may be chargeable. Also, the Ack you got should have been ITRV. You have to sign it (in blue) and post it without folding to the Bangalore address within 90 days, and wait for the e-ack, unless of course the return was digitally signed.

And now they are suing htc. Seems that Apple are going after both the Google OEMs. (Mods please change the thread title)

@Genius; Switch off assisted dialling. Settings>Call>Assisted Dialling. My phone was fine for a couple of days, and then I must have switched on Assisted Dialling and and sms with a '0'prefix would not go. I installed Handcent and was editing out the 0 manually (sms goes without the 0 prefix wherever). Then I contacted Hetal and he advised me to switch off Assisted Dialling. You have to do a Restart to clear the cache. Please send me the link. @dkaile: I am doing precisely that. There is no auto checking option. I am checking through both WiFi (IITK) and 3G (Reliance)at least twice a day. I am stock, unrooted. Added on 20/07 @Genius; Thought I had fixed it. Till yesterday it was taking +91 also. Then packed up no sms to a number with any prefix 0 or otherwise. Now again working both ways. I suspect Reliance are having network problems. Yesterday, Karnataka was 'busy' but sms'es were getting through. Even that stopped for some time. Could be nationwide problems. I suggest you install Handcent (Free is file). It lets you edit outgoing phone nos. for sms. Still waiting for the link. No luck with OTA check today as well. Was hanging for ages though.
-
Yes Dhiraj, I know. Still no sms / message. Check Update draws a blank 'Service Unavailable' after a few minutes. Cannot spot a link anywhere to get the file. I guess messages do come - My son got a message on his Hero when Android 2 came.

Still waiting for the OTA Gingerbread for Incredible 2.
