Reliance Industries Mulling To Buy Aircel?
sgiitk replied to vvinayakpai's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
@inception, KarthikR and Coolblue; I agree.MDA with the 4G in his pocket will definitely be on the lookout for a service provider for the backbone. Aircel looks like the ideal platform, not too small, all India footprint incl. J&K. If as has been said by coolblue MDA has been at due diligence, then the odds of a potential buyout much be very high. -
Please Suggest a CDMA Handset (Reliance) For Heavy User
sgiitk replied to pasumark's topic in Handset Suggestions
I will opt for a BB even though it will be an overkill. Fantastic battery life, and rugged as anything. I do not know whether Nokia is till making the 6275, another handset built like a tank. -
Obviously these things can be done using CDMA workshop or something like that. My question is - What are the codes for putting the phone(s) into the Modem mode. I understand that these may be: ##8778# for Epic 4G. Then select USB Modem ##3424 <call> for Incredible then quickly select PC to Phone mode. Please confirm. Also, codes for other phones. We are not all Guru's like you guys!
-
How do you do that? Is it a CDMA workshop or adb job. Can a guru please advise and give some more instructions.

Some time ago all vendors agreed to have a common power connector / charger. This was agreed to be mini-USB. What has happened is that the mini-connector is again proprietary. Blackberry uses the same as is used in Garmin-GPS so may be standard. This is trapezoidal. Now htc has its own which is rectangular with the corner cut off. However, the standard mini_USB connector works. I find the Samsung Epic 4G has a far slimmer connector and the other(s) will definitely not fit in, and vice versa. So we are back to brand and model specific connectors, making the whole exercise redundant.

TRAI Bans "Auto Starting" of Value Added Services: Brings Relief To Customers
sgiitk replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
All I can say 'Thank God at last'. Long overdue. I hope they do not find a workaround. -
Now seen one which works Just got my incredible 2 from hetal. Shares data and power connector with Samsung family - Epic 4G, 551. So some sense at last.

Looks like the MEID/AKey problem!

Reliance CDMA EVDO Activation Request Here For Aam Admi
sgiitk replied to @mitJ@in's topic in Data services
Great initiative. I hope we start getting higher end handsets with OMH soon. The ideal (one can always hope) will be 100% OMH handsets. -
They cannot take over your card. They just take authorisation for Rs.5000, but billed me only 550. Never asked for the card except to swipe for the authorisation.

Apple Declares War – Slashes iPhone 3GS Price By Rs.15,000

Not too happy with a proprietary platform from a source notorious for keeping their systems locked up. -
We are moving a bit OT into services other than EVDO. I must add that I find Tata EVDO excellent. Typical data rates in excess of 1.5Mbps, stable connection, etc. I think a move to GSM is on the cards. They have DoCoMo which is considered by many as the world leader in 3G. Despite the loss of customers in droves they are still not permitting non-Tata Smartphones (no MEID registration). So all the signs are the same. Despite all problems with Reliance we still find their network excellent, and due to 850MHz their signal penetrates into many buildings where the 1800/1900 MHz does not! It may be worthwhile to get the no. of new subscribers every month, in addition to the port-outs!

Airtel's Shockingly Bad Service
sgiitk replied to city02's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Came across another one for Scaretel. Messing about in 3G for revenue. See http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadgets-computers-software/103233-airtel-3g-billing-fraud-6.html -
Till about a year ago Tata was only 1x in Gwalior and Indore, but was rock steady.

Black: I will say you are a bold man, or have your man Friday to dust it every half hour. Congratulations, on whatever you finally get.

@amiteshnandan; Please see my PM.

Also, if you install a booster the connection to the phone is the tricky part! For convenience and safety it was to be wireless, I will change vendors rather than use these boxes.

I downloaded for the 5230 and worked on the 6275 as well. For a total clean up either use a probrirtary software like AML Free, or run RegEdit, seacrh for Nokia and remove all manually. RegEdit can be dangerous in non-expert hands to be careful.
-
Most probably you have a driver problem. Uninstall & Remove all traces of Nokia from your PC. Reboot, and then try a fresh install. I never faced this with my Nokia 6275!

SD Card Incompatibility With Canon?
sgiitk replied to city02's topic in General Technical Discussion
A fat 32 type of format will not support 4GB. Another thing which is never mentioned is the speed of the card. This may range from 1(slowest) to 6 (fastest). -
We were in Dubai in April. My son bought a HD Digicam from Panasonic. The dealer was quite clear that the warranty will only be valid in India for 3 months. After that to get the rest of the year you may have to fight Panasonic.

@csmart; So did we think. My daughter had a Compaq. Went to the UK, had a breakdown. The reply was that since that particular model is not for sale in the UK take it back to India. I told her to reveal that she is a lawyer, and threaten them. She was doing a LLM in criminal justice. She got a reply pronto to take the unit to a facility right on the campus. The laptop was fixed in three days flat with change of the motherboard (which they got from Germany). This was just before Xmas. There are more holes in the so called International Warranty than in Swiss cheese. Have you ever read the 15-20 pages of it? I was talking to an CEO of a listed co. He happened to check the terms and declined the warranty extensions in the US. replaced the Acer battery (See post 92) with a third party battery - 4400mAH against 5600mAh. Has a one year warranty. Half the price. Let me see how long this lasts.

I have an Epic 4G running Froyo (Stock EC05) which I have rooted (super one click + ROM Manager + Titanium Free). I have the following problems / queries: 1. How does one set up the unit for a proxy connection? Our wireless is working fine on direct connection, but due to a system glitch disconnects every 10 minutes or so. I want to switch over to operating through our proxy server. Cannot find anything on the phone for it. Help! 2. I tried a cold boot: <1> key + power. I got the downloading do not switch off message. Then I waited for over 10 minutes but nothing happened. So with great trepidation I pulled and reinserted the battery and then restarted, fortunately things were normal. 3. To be doubly sure I did a nandroid restore. Three finger salute got me into the menu. The restore went normally but the unit did not reboot - was just hanging. Battery out, battery in and restart. It went into nandroid and the on selecting happily rebooted from there. Is this normal. I had to reinstall Speedtest as it was hanging with a network error. 4. How do I remove the Sprint garbage which is part of the system? I am new to Android (or smartphones in general) so please guide me.

Put in Ti Pro (from the forum) and did the Epic. Will try the 551 this evening. Of course 3.8.4 goes down to 3.8.0. afaik software labelling of a.b.c - a major rewrite, b minor rewrite/major bug fix, c bug fix. So x.x.4 going to .0 just misses ot some minor bug fixes.

I would not look to the US. Warranty is invalid in India. I am not aware of many laptops which did not need attention in Year 1 itself. The only recent one I can recall is a Toshiba!
