  1. CDMA Handset Choices in India

I am a Reliance service user from Ahmedabad and need to change from my current Samsung SCH-F679 to something else because the motherboard abruptly broke down for no good reason. The phone was 4 years old. In the world of good brand CDMA mobiles is there no choice beyond Samsung? Reliance webworld carries just two models - one Coolpix and another equally forgettable. Internet shows LG India to sport just one handset and also Motorola. The shops probably don't even carry these. Is Nokia not an option in India? Are there no CDMA handsets from Nokia? I happen to prefer a key board model to a touchscreen one. Samsung W279 seems like the best of the lot. Can any user of this phone tell me whether - a) it allows you to send group sms? If so, can I select the group after typing the message or do I have to select it before? In my current mobile, I have to do it before, which means I cannot forward others' sms's to a group. It is very irritating. b ) it has a Delete All facility in its sms? In my current mobile, I have to physically select each and everyone of my messages to delete them all. There are many other bugs in the current one which I have learnt to live with, for example - i) It is supposed to hang up the call when the End Call button is pressed. It doesn't do that, I have to slide it shut (the setting is for End Call button) ii) It is supposed to have a rolling sms list, ie when the capacity is exceeded, the oldest sms should be erased to make way for the latest one. It doesn't do that. I have to physically delete them to make new space. Both the above features were advertised, but do not work. I hope they are not carried over into later models like W279. Sorry to the forum if these are old topics, didn't know where else to post them. Would appreciate a response. Ranjit
  2. CDMA Handset Choices in India

I am Ahmedabad-based and shopping for a new instrument for my Reliance connection after my Samsung SCH-679 motherboard conked off, and 8530 is one of the options I was considering (competing with Samsung W279). But after reading Ankit Bhutoria's posts, I feel scared of buying something that creates so many problems (even though the group helped him solve most of them). Ankit (and other users of 8530), would you please tell me if the phone has the following features (which mean a lot to me, more then camera and FM etc): - Does it support group sms? I am a college teacher and frequently need to send sms's to my entire class as a group. On my Samsung, I am used to defining a group consisting of those numbers and I can send one sms to that single group defined by name and not select 10 numbers each time to send to. - Arising from above, if group sms is defined, then how many groups can one define and how many numbers can one group contain? - Can I search the phonebook by number instead of name? Given a number (from my monthly bill, say), can I find whose it is without making a missed call to the number? - Can I copy-paste text in or between sms's? - Does is have auto-sms-on-reject? - Does its sms have a defined signature? I don't want to type in a signature into every sms. Do respond so that is helps me get the mobile with the precise features I want. Ranjit 2662 3692 x3026 in Ahmedabad
  3. CDMA Handset Choices in India

Thanks, Mr. Rajan, for the prompt reply. My budget is Rs. 15-20,000. I would not buy anything from the grey market. Where did you get your "HTC EVO 3D" from? What is your experience with it? If you recommend it, let me know if it is available in Mumbai. I visit the city often and can buy from there. Btw, which country is HTC from? Their website doesn't give away the nationality.
  4. Lg Rd 6600 !

Am looking for a CDMA handset (under Rs. 9K) to use with my Reliance connection. I had an RD 6500 with very good features but it was snatched from me on the roads of Ahmedabad. Am very particular about phone and organiser functions andusability and less about radio/camera/video. Can people tell me about the 6600 - - In the phonebook, how many numbers can I store under each name? (8 for LG6500: 2 home, 2 office, 2 mobile, 1 fax, 1 general) - Can I search the Phonebook (Contacts list) by number as well as by name? - Can I send/receive (by sms) numbers from the phonebook to/from others? - From the Phonebook, can I send an sms? - From the call register, can I navigate back to Contacts to maybe call back the caller on another number in his name? - From the call register, can I send the caller an sms? - From the sms register, can I call the sms sender on the same number? - From the sms register, can I navigate back to Contacts to maybe call back the sms-sender on another number in his name? - Can I send sms to multiple people simultaneously (without defining group)? - Can I define gropus to send sms to? How many such groups can I define? - In each group how many numbers can there be, max? - In LG 6500 there was a big problem with gropu sms - you could send group sms only to those for whom only Home number was filled. Quite idiotic. Is there any such limitation with MAX? - Does it handle long messages by breaking into small messages? - Can I copy/paste between messages? - Can I download the Reminders/Birthdays/Appointments/etc.? - Can I download SMSes into my PC? - Can I schedule reminders as daily/weekly/mothly/yearly? - Can I download scheduler/calendar/reminder into PC? - Does the phone have a feature to give a periodic tinkle at intervals to draw attention to unread sms's? Or does it tinkle just when an sms comes in? Sorry for the long list, but I do want to buy the phone having the conveniences I need. The answers to all the above questions (except Send/Receive phonebook nos. and download) were Yes for 6500, by the way, so I do want at least these functions and more in the new phone I buy. If any other phone also provides all these features, do let me know. Ranjit
  5. New Nokia 6275 @ 9,750

It is out of stock in Ahmedabad currently. RIM is quoting 9,400 when it is back in stock while dealers are taking advantage of the shortage and quoting 10,000 ! Can someone please give me answers to the following to help me decide whether to buy 6275 or no (these are all features I had in my LG 6500 which got stolen) - - Can I search the Phonebook (Contacts list) by number as well as by name? - From the Phonebook, can I send an sms? - From the call register, can I navigate back to Contacts to maybe call back the caller on another number under his name? - From the call register, can I send the caller an sms? - From the sms register, can I call the sms sender on the same number? - From the sms register, can I navigate back to Contacts to maybe call back the sms-sender on another number under his name? - How many groups can I define for sending sms's to? - In each group how many numbers can there be, max? - Can I download the Reminders/Birthdays/Appointments/etc.? - Does the phone have a feature to give a periodic tinkle at intervals to draw attention to unread sms's? Or does it tinkle just when an sms comes in? Sorry for the long list, but would really appreciate your answers. Ranjit
  6. Samsung Max Available With Reliance

It is quite amazing that prolem no 1 is identical to that of LG's RD6500, only that 6500's problem was worse - not only would it not send to the desired number among the person's set of numbers, but the default MUST be Home, and there must not be any other number for that name. It took me long to discover this and I reported it to LG's CC only to be told that "not many users use this feature, so we can't do anything about it." Really disappointing to know that MAX also has a similar problem. As a teacher, I have a great need for the group SMS feature to send SMS to my whole class. It was one of the criteria on which I was basing my purchase of a new phone.

  8. Lg Rd 6600 !

Sorry for the long post below - My 6500 was stolen recently, now I am planning to buy another handset in the same series because I liked its features so much. 6600 is the model I am considering. Does anyone on this group know - - whether 6600 supports sending multiple SMS's? - whether it has the Groups feature which allows one to send SMS's to a named group? This is very important to me because I am a teacher and frequently need to send SMS's to my various classes as a group. it is too much hassle to select multiple entries from the phone book every time. - If group SMS is supported, then is there a limit to the number of persons you can have in one group and to the number of groups you can make? - 6500 had a very big bug which I followed up with the company officials which they also acknowledged. I want to know whether it has been solved in 6600. The bug is that the Group SMS feature would work ONLY IF the persons in the group one was trying to create had ONLY their Home number filled. If any entry had other numbers (like Mobile number which is what one wants to use for SMS) in their entries, the Group feature would not work. It was exasperating. I had to store people's mobile numbers in their Home field, erase other numbers etc. But LG officials seem unconcerned about it, saying "Very few people use this feature." Experienced people please let me know if this features works properly in 6600 (if it is present at all, that is). The salesperson at the RIM was unable to help me with this, so I need you guys' help.
