BSNL has also introduced a new FWP set where they are giving set for Rs 900 only with lifetime validity and free talktime of Rs 100. http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/wll_tariffcard_pre.htm Chech the "New CDMA Prepaid Plans (w.e.f. 01.09.2009" on this page. This is a response from Tata Indicom for this scheme of BSNL. Competition is always good for the customers.

MTS India Launches RC 249, All Local Call 30P For Life Time
starnet replied to SantoshRoyal's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
How is network quality of MTS in Delhi? Anyone here have first hand experience? -
Price in croma was above Rs 35000 when I last checked in Jan 2010 first week and price in Sony exclusive was Rs 29000 approx in mid December, 2009. So the price difference remains the same approximately. A couple of weeks ago I saw Iomega brand external DVD writer (for use with netbook) selling in Croma for Rs 2900. I bought the same model in Nehru Place (Delhi) for Rs 2500 only. All netbooks in Nehru Place are cheaper by at least Rs 2500. The money saved can be spent on buying a data card or an external DVD writer. So more often than not significant price difference is there. But still it is good to check the prices at multiple shops/stores to get the best bang for our hard-earned bucks. It is not my intention to bash Croma. They are doing a very good job in displaying and product and give you an opportunity to touch and feel a product which most shops in Nehru Place etc. can't afford to do or simply just don't want to do.

Thanks for the replies. This is bad news for me. Looks like I'll have to keep using my Nokia N95 for GPRS alongside a new Blackberry. I don't use GPRS much, so Rs 899 plan is an overkill for me.

I have found that Croma is a good place to look and compare various products but is not a good place to buy anything because of very high prices. Before last Diwali, I bought saw a 32 inch Sony Bravia LCD. It was selling in Croma for Rs 36800 and in Big Bazaar for Rs 35900. The same model was selling at various shops including Sony exclusive showrooms for around Rs 29600. So I bought from a Sony exclusive showroom. Similarly everything in Croma is priced higher by at least 20%. If someone is in or around Delhi the one can buy very cheap netbooks in Nehru Place. A lot of notebooks with old model of CLU (Intel Atom N270 CPUs) are selling for under Rs 14000. One can easily buy a Samsung netbook for under rs 14000 at shop named "Cost To Cost" in Nehru place and they are giving free external DVD writer with some netbooks. Similarly one should visit local computer hardware market (if there is any) in your city to find the cheap prices instead of getting ripped off at Big Bazaar or Croma.

So the conclusion after reading 18 pages of this thread is that phone battery is not having any problem, just don't use the memory card that comes with the set? Is that correct?

Docomo's New On-Net (Incl Calls 2 Indicom, virgin) Offer In Tn, Karnataka
starnet replied to KanagaDeepan's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Too bad Tata Docomo is not available in Delhi yet. Simply Reliance is the cheapest GSM plan in Delhi as of now but R-GSM network really s**ks. How good or bad is Tata Docomo network in big cities where it is available? -
Can we insert/fit one of these WWAN card in the netbooks like Samsung N120 etc ? There is huge cost difference between the USB modems that are available on ebay and the ones available in the Indian markets. In fact Micromax's is only one 3G USB modem easily available in the market that can be used with MTNL/BSNL 3G networks. If some seller on this forum can import 3G USB modems in bulk, then it can be a huge opportunity to make some money. These WWAN cards will be even cheaper if imported in bulk. Somehow I prefer USB modems over the internal cards that can be fitted inside a laptop because a USB modem can be taken out and used on any desktop/laptop in the office or home without much hassle.

Tata Teleservices Unveiled India’S First 3G Embedded Netbook
starnet replied to me_saket's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Rs 23999 is a very high price for these Haier netbooks with Qualcomm chipsets. In Nehru Place (Delhi) Samsung N128 netbook is selling for Rs 14700 at shop named Cost to Cost. One can buy a Tata Photon plus USB modem for Rs 2499 at Croma and total cost is around Rs 17200 for a netbook with 3G connectivity. -
Tata's Cell Tower Pulled Down In Mahavir Enclave, Dwarka ,delhi-ncr
starnet replied to Himanshu Singh's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Some employees of MCD or Maha Chor Department as it is also known as in Delhi must be very pissed off because of non-payment of "fees" by the landlord in whose premises tower was setup. So they may have decided to pull it down. -
Having USB 2.) will be better. You may be having USB 1.1 because the mother board of your PC is very old model (say of pre-1999 era) or may be you are using old operatin system like windows-98 or pirated copy of Windows XP and it has old drivers that lack USB 2.0 support. So you may want to upgrade hardware of your PC or upgrade OS/software on your PC. If your PC hardware limitations due to old model etc. then chances are that you can buy a USB add-on card from the market and install it in your PC. I bought one such card here in Delhi for Rs. 180 last month. Now I have 3 additional USB 2.0 ports on my PC.

Reliance Gsm Networks Features And Gprs Settings
starnet replied to HetalDP's topic in Miscellaneous
GPRS in most parts of Delhi is not working yet. Best feature of RGSM is that you get to hear the "all routes are busy..." whenever you try to dial any number. Since no call is completed, no money is spent resulting in huge savings. -
Mts - Call To Any Phone In India At 49p
starnet replied to pasumark's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
The same plan in mobiles comes for around $90 only in the USA. If you are talking for about 5 hours every day for all 30 days of the month on your Tata Docomo mobile at 1 paisa/second, then you will end up paying less than what a person in the US is paying. If someone is a residential user, then there is no way a typical customer will talk for more than 5 hours a day, all month long. -
Bsnl Wi Max Free Trial For Me For 15 Days
starnet replied to kshah's topic in General Technical Discussion
Monthly cost is too high. I am paying Rs. 649 plus service tax for Airtel 256 kbps DSL and BSNL Wimax is priced at Rs. 1000 plus tax. There is no chance that such high-priced wimax will succeed in urban areas where DSL is available at much lower cost. I see that modem/CPE is from Soma networks. What is the exact model number of CPE? -
Hope Tata Docomo's GSM network is better than Reliance GSM. If and when the network is launched in Delhi and mobile number portability is available, I'd like to get rid of Reliance CDMA. Reliance GSM ****s so bad that I believe Reliance should refund my rs. 49 that I paid for SIM card.

Prerequisite To Start Working As Individual Computer Consultant
starnet replied to @v@nit's topic in The Lounge
Several years ago I left my job and started working as web designer through scriptlance and elance and then progressed from there. Service tax registration is not required to start working through rentacoder and similar sites like scriptlance etc. There are 2 reasons why service tax registration is not required. 1. All income from elance etc. if received in US Dollars is free of service tax because all export income received in foreign currency against the services provided to clients based outside India is free from service tax. 2. Service tax registration is required if the amount of money received in Indian rupees earned from services supplied to clients in India is more than Rs. 10 lacs in a financial year. If your income from Indian clients billed in Indian rupees is under Rs. 10 lacs then there is no service tax payable. Some of these freelance sites now pay coders through Paypal and Paypal funds withdrawal to Indian bank accounts is in Indian rupees. So avoid receiving payment via Paypal as much as possible to avoid crossing the Rs. 10 lacs limit in a financial year. -
"All lines on this route are busy..." is the message that I have been hearing since launch in Delhi in January. When I am able to connect to after several retries, voice quality is bad and call is disconnected at any time after 1 minute. This is when my office where I am trying to use RGSM is located at a distance of around 80 meters from the tower of Reliance. Shame on Reliance ADAG group for such a pathetic 'service'.

Has anyone tried netconnect+ modems on Windows 7 beta? Will it work with Windows 7. Windows 7 will be formally released in October and it will be the standard OS for next several years to come. I am holding back my purchase of new laptop till October and now wondering if this modem will work on Windows 7.

Are You Going To Continue Using Your Reliance Gsm Cep Sim?

Tried to use my GSM SIM again. "All routes are busy" as they have been since January launch. Reliance GSM is a fraud. -
Intex Launches Low-cost Desktop @ 12900
starnet replied to savramesh's topic in General Technical Discussion
I bought some parts from Nehru Place (Delhi) last month to assemble a PC and also did the costing for an assembled PC with Intel main board with Atom CPU (945GCLF) soldered on it. Cost was about Rs. 13800 for a PC with: 17 inch Dell or Samsung LCD monitor 1GB RAM (Crucial or Kingston make) 160GB Seagate SATA hard disk drive Sony DVD writer Logitech Keyboard + mouse iCool cabinet If one is willing to go for cheaper monitors like a smaller LCD like 15 inch or a 16.5 inch instead of a 17 inch LCD, unbranded RAM instead of Kingston, 80GB HDD instead of a 160GB HDD, unbranded keyboard and mouse instead of a Logitech, then cost will be around Rs. 12000 for a PC with the same Intel 945GCLF main board. I have seen people using machines with the above mentioned config and windows-XP and these machines are more than sufficient for stuff like email, web browsing, MS Office, tally, VOIP chat on skype and such. Most important thing is that these machines (including monitors) consume under 65 Watts of electricity which is less than even what a typical laptop consumes. For a small office with multiple machines, savings in electricity bill will quickly add up. -
Reliance GSM - Problems ! Problems ! & Problems!
starnet replied to ipkonfig's topic in Miscellaneous
My office is located at around 100 meters away from RCOM's tower. Signal strength is full but when I try to call my reliance CDMA number from RGSM number all I hear is "This route is busy" is busy. Of course the route is still busy when I try to call any other number. I have given up on Reliance GSM. They will not improve. -
Are You Going To Continue Using Your Reliance Gsm Cep Sim?
starnet replied to me_saket's topic in Miscellaneous
In over 2 months I have managed to make around 5 outgoing calls in total from my RGSM number......"all routes ae busy...." is all what I hear 24 hours a day. I'm in Delhi. When I bought the SIM, I recharged it with extra Rs. 100. Now I have Rs. 89 balance in my SIM. I'll continue to try to use the SIM till I can use that Rs. 89 balance. After that I'll dump it. -
At least a customer service rep was available on phone and someone even visited the place of the customer to see his problem. This is great going by MTS. At least they are trying to solve the problem of a customer. We must give credit where it is due. On the other hand all I hear when I try to call RGSM support is "all routes are busy..." Reliance has just sold the GSM SIMs and now doesn't see the need for providing the service to the customers after taking their money. "Take the money and RUN" this seems to be the new motto of Reliance.
-
GPRS doesn't work on RGSM in Delhi. I am yet to see it work in Delhi. Even outgoing voice calls can't be made from Reliance GSM yet. Reliance GSM is a scam.
-
I am yet to make a call longer than 3 minutes fom my Reliance GSM number. Either the call is dropped in less than 1 minute or I get a "all routes are busy" message. Looks like Reliance GSM is a scam. Last year (in January, 2008) ADAG group came out with IPO of Reliance power and millions of investors lost money by investing in Reliance power IPO. This year in January, ADAG group launched GSM service and has already sold several million SIM cards to customers like me. We can't make outgoing calls by using our GSM SIMs, that we have paid for. Reliance was never known as a honest business house but this is too low even by the standards of Reliance. LOOKS LIKE RELIANCE GSM IS A SCAM.
