Reliance Infocomm and Intel join hands to accelerate the Internet revolution in India Intel powered PCs and laptops to provide users instant Internet connectivity through Reliance IndiaMobile and other wireless products DAKC (Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City), Navi Mumbai, September 21, 2004 In yet another industry first, Reliance Infocomm today announced an agreement with Intel to offer instant, assured and uninterrupted Internet connectivity with Intel powered PCs and laptops sold in top eight cities of India. Users purchasing systems from select dealers will be offered Intel-powered PCs/laptops with Reliance wireless products such as Reliance IndiaMobile and Fixed Wireless Phones along with a data cable, to avail of Internet connectivity at speeds that far exceed today's dial-up speeds. With its pan-India CDMA2000 1x network, Reliance wireless products enable anytime, anywhere, high-speed Internet connectivity on PCs, Laptops and other computing devices through the popular R-Connect service platform. With a maximum possible download speed of 144 kbps, Reliance wireless products are far superior to most other personal Internet connectivity devices. Reliance IndiaMobile handsets can be used as wireless modems to connect to the Internet from personal computers, laptops or hand-held devices, even while on the move. "Internet connectivity in India has lagged behind due to poor quality networks and high access costs. CDMA wireless connectivity will now bridge both - the access and cost gaps - and revolutionise Internet usage. Our expanding R-Connect user base has already established us as one of the largest ISPs in the country and is growing every day. With our Phase II expansion underway, Reliance Infocomm services will soon cover the far-flung interiors of India and this tie-up will help boost the rural economy by increasing Internet penetration. This agreement with Intel is yet another step forward in Reliance Infocomm's commitment to bring about a digital revolution in India by changing the way Indians communicate, get entertained and do business," said Kamal Nanavaty, Head, Wireless Business, Reliance Infocomm. Reliance Infocomm is currently enrolling hundreds of Genuine Intel Dealers as point of sale dealers across top eight cities of India to market the new offering. These dealers sell branded and assembled PCs/lap tops using Intel chips. Speaking at the press briefing, Mr. Amar Babu of Intel Technology, South Asia, said, "Through this agreement between Reliance and Intel, the end consumer will have the added advantage of using a PC with wireless connectivity and be able to experience the benefits of anytime, anywhere computing. This move will bring forth the Reliance wireless technology combined with Intel's silicon technology and work with the Genuine Intel Dealer network to ultimately offer seamless connectivity to the end consumer." Apart from higher Internet access speeds, R Connect users also enjoy the lowest Internet access charges and hassle free connection since wireless lines provide instant connectivity. A one time installation of the dial-up software essentially enables the user to access the Internet anywhere on the Reliance network, without the need to change dial-up configurations. Moreover, R Connect enables a user to begin surfing from any location - be it the bedroom, drawing room, office or even while on the move from a car. With an attractive base price of just Rs. 21,789 for the new product offering comprising the Intel Pentium 4 Processor based PC, a Reliance IndiaMobile handset (LG 2230), and the R-Connect data cable, this agreement is set to boost Internet penetration to a wider user segment.

Hey the same here, A freind of mine using R Connect Plan got billed for 937 MB, Rs.10018- for a month while his previous month bill was 1129 which was as per normal usage for him. Pity for the guy as he uses net for about 1 hr a day, only to see the updates on his company site. He uses 2230, so no data history even. God, Save data plan users......

It is a keypad having individual buttons for each English alphabet (as computer keyboard) in below format found on normal PC/Laptop upper line: qwerty yuiop middle line: asdfg ;lkjh bottom line: zxcvb nm,./ It is different from normal mobile keypads which have individual buttons for numbers, while 3/4 alphabets share each number button. Normally QWERTY keypads are suitable where messaging and email is major part of usage.

Generally on an average one hour of only surfing (no downloading) amounts to 3-5 MB of data transfer. So that turns out to be 30-50 Rs/hour. But WW people say, these rconnect data plans are avialable only in Postpaid. So on FWP that amounts to Rs.28-/hour and in prepaid Rs.60/- per hour

Hi all, Hutch/orange and BPL were initially giving unlimited access for 499- per month only. Now they have started quantity(data download/upload) based charging. Fixed monthly cost 199- and variable charges are 0.50ps/10kb. So only variable charges go as high as Rs 50- per MB of data transfer. Also Airtel says, its only promotional offer, and they will soon be shifting to quantity based billing. It means that Reliance is much cheaper. Over and above it gives better connectivity than GPRS-GSM. Reliance data plans: Silver-- Rs.500- per month(100MB Free) additional Rs10-/MB Gold----Rs.1000-per month(250MB Free) additional Rs10-/MB

LG RD2030 company reconditioned handsets are available from select RIM outlets at Rs.1999- With new mobile no and preloaded 108 voucher. But without warranty. So Reliance has started recycling old phones also for entry level users.
-
Hey Guys, On inquiry with WW, they sais that only LG2030 are available refurbished. But other B/W models are sometimes(depending on stocks) available in seconds state. i.e. non-refurbished or reconditioned but with new mobile no. programmed. They are sold as cheap as 1200-1300 in quantity basis to RIM retail outlets.

Dear Chirag, But here is contradicting T-Sim information. It says that C131 & 2280 are preactivated T-Sim, while all other handsets can be changed, as customer wishes to upgrade or change for whatever reason

It's a matter of seconds: BPL tests market pulse TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 01, 2004 06:29:53 PM ] MUMBAI: There’s good news for consumers. Just when the tariff war seemed to be petering out, BPL Mobile has upset the applecart. BPL has introduced a ‘one-second pulse rate’. The pulse rate is the rate at which calls are charged. Currently, the pulse rate is a minute, so you are charged Rs 1, 2 or 3 for every minute that you talk. With a one-second pulse rate, you end up paying only for what you use. In the case of a 60-second pulse rate, you pay the full rate of Rs 1/2 per minute, as the case may be, even if you speak only for a few seconds. With a lower pulse rate, the advantage is that you need not track the talktime. The rate cut announced by BPL Mobile today could change the tariff structure since it has introduced the one second pulse as against the prevailing 60 seconds pulse. BPL has announced a special rate of 1 paise per second for calls to mobile phones on payment of an additional monthly charge of Rs 25. There is, in addition, a fixed charge of 60 paise per call so as to recover interconnection charges and other costs. For those not wanting the special rates (not paying Rs 25), the tariff will be 2 paise per second for all calls for postpaid users and 3 paise per second for all calls for prepaid users. However, here the rental for the post-paid user is Rs 175 per month as against the Rs 150 per month charged by other operators. For the prepaid user, the rental is in line with that charged by other operators. Krishna Angara, executive VP-Business Operations, BPL Mobile, described the one-second pulsing as “being fair and honest to subscribers.” A normal business conversation lasts for 25-30 seconds while a social conversation lasts for 2-2.5 minutes. “With a one-second pulse, the customer only pays for what he uses. We are hoping to increase the talktime of the customer as also attract a larger number of customers,” said Mr Angara. Other operators pooh-poohed the BPL move saying that usual conversations were about a minute long in which case the BPL Mobile tariff actually worked out to be more expensive. Calculations show that the BPL Mobile tariffs will lead to cheaper calls except in case of calls that are more than 40 seconds and less than or equal to 60 seconds. Such calls will cost 41 paise- 60 paise, depending on the duration. Add to that the 60 paise fixed charge and the total cost works out to Rs 1.01-1.20 for the call, against the 99 paise-Re 1 per minute call rate of rivals. However, apart from this aberration, it would be cheaper to call from a BPL Mobile phone compared to any other operator. For instance, a 61-second call will cost 61 paise, plus fixed charges of 60 paise in the case of BPL Mobile, but will cost Rs 1.98-2 in case of other operators as even a one-second increase will be counted as a second call.

Active and Passive Displays Color LCDs come in two flavors: passive and active displays. Active displays, the most common type of which is thin film transistor or TFT, provide a sharper, clearer image and a broader viewing angle than passive displays. Active displays accomplish this by, among other things, refreshing the screen more frequently. They use individual transistors that control each pixel of the screen, while passive displays use a grid of horizontal and vertical wires. One downside to active matrix is that a typical Pocket PC's color display, which is quarter-VGA (QVGA) or 320x240, contains more than 200,000 transistors, making it costlier to fabricate than passive matrix. However, this trade-off seems well worth it. Bottom-line, active matrix displays are clearly superior. However, recent passive displays using new DSTN and CSTN technologies, and an even newer technology called High Performance Addressing or HPA, produce sharp colors that rival active displays. And again, passive displays are much less expensive. DSTN, or double-layer super-twisted nematic, is a passive display technology that uses two display layers. This addresses a color shifting problem associated with conventional super-twist nematic (STN) displays. Still DSTN is not considered as sharp as TFT. CSTN, or color super-twist nematic, is a display technology developed by Sharp. Although the original CSTN displays suffered from slow response times and ghosting, recent advances in CSTN have made it a viable alternative to active displays. The latest CSTN displays offer excellent response times, a wide viewing angle, and high quality color that rivals TFT displays. And at about half the cost

Really informative Setu. Please let us know any changes or glitches that u go through

Dear Vishal, All those nos are available from serviceprovider on request. For most operators PIN, PIN2 and PUK2 are same for all the SIMs, but PUK is different for all SIM. There may be some exceptions but most operators generally follow the above rule. Also dear they are security codes, so they will never be printed on ur SIM in any format.

Ranjan, I guess that u must be using samsung mobile before u wish to install LG. Then you will have to remove samsung drivers manually. You can ask for the driver names and where to search for that on rconnect helpline. Tell *333 people to forward u to rconnect technical staff. After manually removing all samsung drivers and LG drivers, disable all other modems in ur system. Reboot and install a fresh. Enjoy Sanay
