Hey guys, Just discovered that Samsung sch i830 is a World phone that works both on CDMA as well as GSM! And it supports 1x EVDO too. And is selling for $699 on ebay usa.

The com port speed (baud rate) automatically adjusts to the modem's speed...115 kbps in LG & 230 in case of samsung...this is my own experience. I think the respective drivers take care of that.

I don't think they accept any outstation address..leave alone international address. Still, don't know what is the policy regarding foreigners (which you are if you have a foreign passport).

Right buddy. But the problem is terrorists don't roam around with "I AM A TERRORIST" written on their foreheads. And that is why we all, as a society, have to suffer...for our own safety. Anyway, coming to the point, they physically verify the address (the address in the passport in your case)...and only after positive verification, do they activate the connection. So passport or whatever...ultimately it is the correct & valid address that matters. And hence, I said in my previous post above, to use a friend's/ relative's address.

I think it depends on the modems capability.. When I was use LG (FWP as well as 6130), the port connection speed is 120kbps, but when but I use samsung A563, the speed is 230400bps.

Its true that it is now a legal requirement to have an address to get any wireless connection. But you could get a wireless data card on a friend's or relative's address.

That's a good part. But the story is not accurate, Airtel is certainly not the first one since 1994 to introduce such low terriffs. How can they forget the 220/440 cards, even though they are stopped now? Absolutely...some people are still having onnet pack in postpaid for unlimited onnet calls. And 495 voucher already gives 15p at night...so airtel is neither first nor the only one to offer 15 p rates.

First, this phone is Java based & not BREW. And secondly, the ringtones folder is hidden..so till date, nobody has been able to upload ringtones in this phone. It has already been discussed at length elsewhere in this forum...(in LG thread)...

So there's hope that this skin-changing business of LG would finally end once they reach 2990...bcoz 3xxx series is supposed to be for color handsets...

It could be used for syncing the contacts adn also transferring photos & videos (.mjp format) to a PC. However, midi files could be uploaded to the phone using bitpim. But .qcp/ .wav/ .mp3 files when saved in the "ringers" folder are ignored by the phone even though it supports qcp format (bcoz voce memos are saved as qcp). Could anybody else try out bitpim and give fedback?

I guess you can, as long as current & voltage ratings are identical. Otherwise, Li-Ion are very sensitive & delicate and they could even blow up iwhen wrong charging current is applied.

When same models continue for long...we say reliance sells old models and when models are phased out quickly, then we say "Why is reliance stopping all the models so fast?" Anyway, why don't you try LG 3330. Its available for <3K (around Rs.2700) and if you use it with a new connection, you also get Rs.1800 talktime (to any network, local & std).

Hi all. Finally I bought this handset. And as far as still camera is considered, it would have been an updated version of 6130. But the similarity ends here. Now the additional features (wrt LG 6130): 1. Can 10 record video clips of upto 15 sec each. 2. Can save upto 80 (or maybe 60...not sure) pictures clicked by the camera (instead of max 30 in 6130) 3. Built-in voice recorder, could record upto 9 mins of sound and set any recorded clip as a ringtone. 4. Built-in answering machine 5. SMS on call reject 6. SMS to email 7. LMS 8. Animated ringtones (5 nos) 9. Can save upto 40 ringtones from R-world (compared to just 5 in LG 6130) 10. Set slide show as wallpaper (one slideshow could have max 4 images) 11. SMS length of 160 characters (instead of 140 in LG 6130) 12. Add signature in SMS 13. Airplabe mode 14. Voice Dialling 15. Change background colour scheme, reserved call feature, 2000 entries phonebook etc. And greatest of all...data cable of LG 6130 works with this model! So now who says its just an updated version of LG 6130?

Hi, Has anybody successfully used Bitpim with this handset? If yes, what all could be done...i mean ringtone/ wallpaper upload...mp3 upload...etc ? Waiting for reply...planning to buy it only if it supports tweaking via bitpim.

I felt exactly the same for mobile phones some 5-6 years back. I mean...expect the unexpected...only in our country INDIA!

Right amitstg, It is possible to make or receive calls only while in dormat mode...while in GPRS (i.e.GSM), voice calls are possible all throughout. It is because CDMA uses same channel for both voice as well as data while GSM uses separate channels for voice & data.

HI WHAT CODES DID HE PUT?? AND IN WHICH MENU?? LET ME KNOW... I think he's referring to entering wrong recharge pin number (or maybe wrong gsk pin). In case of entering wrong pin 10 times, the network does not allow any further operation from that phone.

Here's more... Yesterday I found on my LSP-350 that all categories are missing in r-world i.e. when I go to r-world, a blank screen comes, although i am able to exit it using the "back" softkey. Maybe, there's a problem on the server side...they might have "upgraded" r-world.
