Hey guys, we have become so accustomed to using free services that whenever a service goes paid, we simply refuse to accept the new situation. Airtel for example charges Rs.30 for downloading a video clip to a moblie phone...but we RIM users feel that Rs.2 or 3 is too high a cost? Be practical yaar, reliance is not providing any services for charity. ...just presenting the other side of the coin.

Well Bhutes, I think entry won't be restricted in to any paid apps. But whenever you enter r-world, the first page itself clearly displays the billing info for different categories. So there's no point in saying that you would be charged without acceptance. Of course, if you enter "E" apps, you would be charged for entry.

None of the ringtones were actually saved on 2030 though there did sound while opening the MMS. can u check it up now? 28779[/snapback] Sorry I can't check it now as I too have upgraded to 6130. But a possible reason might be that the ringtone sent from 6130 was >4Kb size although it did play on your 2030, it could not be saved. ...and yes, 6130 supports midis of much bigger size for setting as ringtone. I myself have saved a midi appx 25Kb as RT. Coming to the point, Chirag try once again with a midi that you are sure is less than 4Kb. And one more thing...I've come to know that 6130 supports Voice ringtones, could anyone check and confirm...or better still post a few vioce ringtones here.

Hi, Just bought a new LG 6130. R-world is working for about 80% of the available apps...but i am not getting ringtones option at all in the menu.
-
Nobody has yet mentioned that inbuilt as well as downloaded ringtones could be attached and sent as MMS. Yes I tried it on my friend's 6130 by sending a ringtone to my 2030 and even successfuly saved it on to my 2030. It's a great feature that was presumably missing on other handsets including 7230.

No...it cannot be activated. The CDMA phone has to be "reliance ready" for activating on Reliance network.

It seems like due to some defect in your handset, the software is somehow getting corrupted. So that when you reburn the s/w, you are able to use it for a few days till it gets corrupted again. I guess it is a manufacturing defect which should be covered under warranty. So you could try claiming for the same from LG. After all, you are using the set under normal conditions, and they are unable to rectify the problem, so you can fight for such a claim (of course assuming it is still under warranty.

Guys, check out PNR status in R-world (in Railways section). It says that you would be charged Rs.3/- for each inquiry. Seems like r-world is becoming paid.,

Auto & taxi fares for Mumbai and I have so many times located nearest ATM while on a tour to a new city. Or stock quotes while on the move. although a bit delayed but cheaper than paying Rs.2 per sms offered on 2622 sms service.
-
Not only mms & email but so many other useful services are free. Like city STD code query by airtel is charged rs.2 per sms. hutch tv is chargeable...airtel live is chargeable...it's a long list...l

Yes, no issue in sms being charged. The r-world app uses your own handset for sending the multiple sms's. You can confirm this by first enabling "save sent mesages" in ur h/s and then using this app. You would see each of these sms have been saved in the outbox of you handset. It merely automates the process of sending the same message to many peaple one by one.

Well guys, I was told by cc that if you were in Rs200 per month r-connect plan, you would continue to be in it, unless you specifically request to get it changed. But this plan is no more available for fresh subscription, (like dapo which is active only for old customers).

Reply to Vishal's qn: 1. Its effective from 22nd Nov as mentioned on the website 2. Better to ask *333 3. Better to ask *333 reply to Raccoon's qsn: 1 GB limit is a lot. Let me illustrate with calcualtions: If the network is connected at the theoritical max speed of 142 bits/sec, it is equivalent to appx 142/8=17.7 KBPS. If we continoulsy keep on transferring data at this theoritical rate, it would take 56,338 seconds to total up 1 GB...or 939 mins. On an avg it works out to almost 30 mins per day. And mind you, I have considered continous data transfer at maximum possible theoritical speeds. For practical purposes, even if we consider actual avg speed to be, say 20% of above, it means we would have to spend atleast 150 mins (i.e. 2 1/2 hrs) every day to exhaust our 1 GB limit. Regarding monitoring daily usage, I tried DU Meter s/w for a month, it logs net usage by mins as well as data upload & download. And the r-connect mins billed in my bill matched within 98% of what DU meter had logged. So, you may also try the same.

Well guys, I don't understand what this cribbing is all about... You pay 50 ps in peak hours and 25 ps in off-peak hours. Although there's an issue regarding billing of DAPO, but atleast there is no monthly rental and no other hidden charges (in default plan). Also, there's NO MONTHLY commitment in default plan, unlike iqara/satyam etc, which is beneficial for low usage users. Even in Rs 650 plan, the limit is 1GB...nobody else gives that much... and if even 1GB is less, we can go for platinum...

Hey guys, just checked out sms services section at relianceinfo.com. Its official now, we can download any mono/poly ringtone for Rs.7 & Rs.10 resp. (I have removed the link from here as it was no more working)
-
Ganesh, You are mixing 2 different issues. Ringtone sevice by indiatimes is altogether different from "sms thru' net" available on RIL website. Well, its just a clarification, no intention of starting any un-necesary argument.
-
Well Vijay, I don't think we could send sms thru' net. This service does'nt send ringtones thru' sms. it only sends a java link as sms which when executed takes us to their portal, from where we can download the file.

Shaw999, What exactly do you want to do? Do you want to back-up/maintain your phonebook thru' pc? It is pretty much possible and quite easy to do using a data cable and LG PC Sync software. Hope I've answered your query...

Greens, You have not understood what you have written in your own post. For international roaming, one needs to have a GSM handset, and RUIM is inserted in it in place of SIM. So the RUIM card actually works as a SIM card when used with a GSM handset. Purpose of this is that while roaming internationally, the calls made to your RIM no. are forwarded, via Reliance gsm service, to your gsm handset in whatever country you are.

Well emmi, Voice ringtones are different from midi format. Since RD 2030 has only a midi player built-in, hence it does not support ringtones in any other format The bird ringtone was just a midi file, while voice cannot be converted into a midi. It is b'coz midi just plays musical notes, but voice cannot be represented by any musical note.

Hi, I use r-connect with LG 2030. Now, if I want to switch to mtnl, then let us see the cost implication: Monthly rental: Rs.500 ("telephone for internet" Plan, only ISP charges applicable) ISP charges: Rs.5 /hr (lowest is assumed) Assuming monthly usage of appx 1000 mins/month (i.e. a little more than 0.5hr per day) Monthly charges for isp = 5*1000/60 = Rs.83.33 So total monthly charges = Rs 583. While, in case of r-connect, monthly charge would be Rs.( 200 + 1000*0.40) = Rs.600 which is only a bit costlier than mtnl, but speeds are definitley much better. Now, if one still wants to switch to mtnl, he has to spend Rs.3000 as security deposit for new connection. So, R-connect is not as costly as it appears by looking at Rs. 60 per hour.

There is another aspect also...that of health hazard, It is just "may be"...... could anyone throw light on this?
