1x / EVDO Unavailable From 01:00 Hrs - 08:00 Hrs (12-Jan-2012)
santanu@impaq replied to abhi.r's topic in Data services
This disruption is for upgradation to Rev B network. Existing RevA Handsets will continue to get same speed. Some people may have experienced enchanced speed temporarily due to less congestion on EVDO channels. Earlier each tower was opearting from 1 EVDO channel but now 2 EVDO channels are available, so each subscriber of RevA will also get a bit increased throughput. This condition will reverse when many dongles of RevB also start operating. -

Upgrading Firmware For HTC Droid Incredible to 2.3 Gingerbread
santanu@impaq replied to jewrajka's topic in HTC
@amit updating ROM or kernel does not effect nv items. updating radio might require reinstating prl and data settings though it is not always the case. the latest stock kernel is also quite ok as far as batt life goes. let amtrag report about batt life on stock kernel. obviously stability will be best on stock kernel. "Insensitive Minimalist" and stock+ (both by jermaine) uses unmodified stock kernel @amtrag most of these roms are created using nandroid capture method only a few are from RUU. the batt stats file is the file got from the phone where it was captured which will not give details about your batt condition. So it is better that you redo it. Wipe batt stats option is available in advanced section in cwm recovery -
Upgrading Firmware For HTC Droid Incredible to 2.3 Gingerbread
santanu@impaq replied to jewrajka's topic in HTC
@amtrag Please post any improvement in batt life with Insensitive Minimalist. remember to wipe batt stats on a fully charged batt and then discharging to full dead so as to recallibrate the battery status indicator. I am on stock+ and I am seriously thinking of ditching sense because it is resource hungry leading to less batt life. BTW gingertiny kernel also improves batt life considerably by reducing clock to upto 128Mhz on standby. -

Actually it is a classic case of afterthought wherein they retro fitted NFC antenna into the battery rather than main electronics section. Also they were also unsure if all carriers would want the NFC so they wanted to easily keep it optional. Bad news for aftermarket battery manufacturers. But then humans are very innovative and chinese are definitely human.

Best Network In Delhi?
santanu@impaq replied to sujit_k's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Guys Guys. This discussion will lead nowhere. Check for signal quality in locations where you normally spend most of your time i.e. your home and your office. Good signal strength will ensure less battery drain & less radiation on your devices in locations you spend most of your time. There can be no generalized opinion about average quality all over Delhi- NCR. Having said that vodafone has more micro sites in the NCR satellite towns. In Delhi both Voda and Airhell has almost similar coverage. Idea falls behind from V+A since they have about 30% less towers to cover same area so you have problems in ground floor and basement in crowded areas with idea. We work for Indus so are able to comment with some authority. Regarding CDMA, signal strength goes down due to increase in noise floor as the number of active users increase in any area. so results will fluctuate at various times during the day. The number of towers installed by CDMA operators is also less considering the urban dense building clusters in most parts of Delhi which causes further attenuation of signal in the reverse link from handset to base. MTS some how has managed to stratagically place towers in Delhi enabling them to reach nook and corners of the various areas in a manner better than RCDMA or TATA. Since deployment of EVDO happened at start for them, so it seeems they did a better planning for placement of towers. These my personal opinion with malice or prejudice towards none. -
Expectedly Big 3 of GSM opt for 3G strategic intra-circle roaming alliance
santanu@impaq replied to ravi_patent's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
This discussion is also detailed in another topic http://www.rimweb.in/forums/topic/32663-gsm-mobile-operators-not-happy-with-cdma-evdo-high-speed-internet-service/ Intra Circle roaming is permissible under the unified access licence conditions. Legally the operators cannot be penalized. At the most the DOT can issue fresh guidelines specifically prohibiting intra cicrcle roaming under the pretext of national security or some other pertext. All of this is just some new suitcase-gate. -

Upgrading Firmware For HTC Droid Incredible to 2.3 Gingerbread
santanu@impaq replied to jewrajka's topic in HTC
Official GB gave me lots of problems - low space warning ( in /data/data ), camera FC , Sense sometimes unresponsive etc, etc. I switched to stock+ by jermaine at xda and everything is fine since then Also if you want very fast GB ROM try insensitive minimalist by jermaine. It is partially sense removed and all bloatware removed. Both the above ROMs are absolutely stable on my phone. There is also a topic in xda dedicated for those facing the low space warning. Go through it and see if you can get your problem solved. -
GSM Mobile Operators Not Happy With CDMA EVDO High Speed Internet Service
santanu@impaq replied to M.S.Rao's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
^ Dear Saikat If what the GSM players did was absolutely unsustainable under law, then DOT would have filed the case in Tribunal long ago. Unified access license allow roaming in areas where the operator does not have service. In Unified access license, Roaming is not forbidden even with the same circle but no operator had earlier offered roaming for voice. MTS has been using TATA backbone for EVDO in various circles The GSM operators advertised 3G service as pan india to the customers and did a back door agreement amongst themselves. The ministry is in a limbo and now they are thinking to make entire country as one single service area. -
GSM Mobile Operators Not Happy With CDMA EVDO High Speed Internet Service
santanu@impaq replied to M.S.Rao's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Technically the operators are allowed to enter into roaming agreements for allowing acess to subscribers to areas where other operators do not have service. If the operators use the 2.1Ghz band for voice and allow roaming to subscribers then it is quite legal. The DOT bosses forgot to lay proper guidelines while the same spectrum is being used for DATA vide HSDPA route. The GSM players have used this loophole to enter into a sort of pseudo roaming agreement for DATA . DOT can at the most stop further use of the method. It may not be legally possible to penalize the GSM players. Just to aviod any penal action, the GSM players are making noise about the CDMA players offering EVDO services in 800 Mhz Band. They say if GSM players are at fault then so are the CDMA players. -
GSM Mobile Operators Not Happy With CDMA EVDO High Speed Internet Service
santanu@impaq replied to M.S.Rao's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Rajan bhai, you have hit the nail on the head. They are perparing for the larger battle ahead. The cost paid for 5 Mhz chunk in the 2.1 Ghz band has been steep for A+V+I combine. Bid by MDA for BWA has taken them for a bit of surprise. If MDA deploys LTE on RCOM backbone them matters become worse for A+V+I combine. Using packet codec voice on data channels is another problem for A+V+I combine. Airtel+Vodafone+Idea combine is sharing 2.1Ghz amongst themselves in areas where all three do not have spectrum. To what extent is that legal ? -
GSM Mobile Operators Not Happy With CDMA EVDO High Speed Internet Service
santanu@impaq replied to M.S.Rao's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
EVDO Rev B with 2 carriers offer 6.2mbps and with 3 carriers offering comensurately faster data rivalling HSPA+ which is why now GSM operators have woke up. There is also a rumour of CDMA operators being given spectrum in 1900Mhz band in near future as soon as defence vacates it. GSM operators want that the 1900Mhz spectum for CDMA should also be auctioned whereas the the GSM operators got it at throw away price because in GSM it was called upper 2G band for carrying cheap voice for the masses. Bottom line for us cdma users is that EVDO at 800Mhz gives excellent coverage indoors and we are all very satisfied with the speeds since on handsets any further speed increase will not have a dramatic effect. Negetively any 4G tech like Wimax , LTE whenever deployed, will only add to battery drain. But again these are my personal views. offending anyone is not my intention -

GSM Mobile Operators Not Happy With CDMA EVDO High Speed Internet Service
santanu@impaq replied to M.S.Rao's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
the so called 3G spectrum is just a band in 2100Mhz. It can be used for Voice in WCDMA mode It can be used for DATA in HSDPA Mode The Goof ups the DOT and the ministry did in allocating the 800 to 900 Mhz bands is not the fault of CDMA operators. Also no spectrum has been released to CDMA operators in the upper 1900Mhz band till date because defence ministry is sitting on it. CDMA cannot be held culprit just because it is more spectrum efficient License conditions allowed every operator to offer data on the lower bands( data speed was not clearly defined at that time ). It is just that the DOT conveniently forgot that EVDO service is possible at 800Mhz band at the behest of one major operator, I do not want to name. Now we have EVDO Rev B being offered which is very fast and has caused the GSM lobby to react in the manner they are reacting now. -
