[/url] Have you ever been sitting on the couch, playing your Wii, and said to yourself "hey, this Wii controller is pretty cool, I'd like to control my Android with it!" Wait, what?! Apparently a developer did just that, and has a functional alpha-version of an app that will actually pair your Wii controller with your Android. What's even cooler? He basically wrote a custom IME ("Soft Input Panel", or "keyboard") that pairs with the WiiMote via Bluetooth. This opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for Bluetooth input devices. How do you use it? Turn Bluetooth on and run the app, then press the menu button and choose Keyboard Settings. From here on out I'm basing the majority of the instructions on the post over at XDA-Developers.com. Enable "WiiControllerIME" (this should only needed once right after installation). Now you'll need to pair the Wii controller with your Android by "tapping the first button and at the same time put your Wii remote in discovery mode by pressing "1" and "2" simultaneously". After that, wait for the "Connected" message to appear on your screen. The first LED will turn on on the Wii remote back in WiimoteController app tap the second button and select WiiControllerIME. Apparently that's it! You can now fire up your games (or game console emulator) and play away (note, you only get key presses out of this app, you can't tilt the controller left and right to steer, etc.). To disconnect, hold the power button on the Wii remote or simply turn the phone's Bluetooth off. Also, don't forget to go into your phone's Language and keyboard settings and change your IME (keyboard) back or you won't be able to type. What Android Devices Can I Run it On? Right now it's reported to work on: - Google Nexus One/CyanogenMod 5.0.6 (my dev system) - Google Nexus One/CyanogenMod 5.0.5.3 - Google Nexus One/Stock Android 2.1 - Motorola Milestone/Stock Android 2.0.1 - SE Xperia X10/Android 1.6 Donut - Motorola Droid/UltimateDroid ROM V10 - Motorola Droid/Cyanogen 5.0.6 w/ P3Droid 1200mhz 7slot kernel - Motorola Droid/DroidMod But does not work on: - Google Nexus One/MoDaCo Alpha r21 Custom ROM Desire Port - Samsung Moment/Android 2.1 DD10 - HTC Droid Eris/Android 2.1 - HTC Incredible/Stock - HTC Desire/Stock - HTC Legend/Stock

Apple Unveils Ipad, The Tablet Computer

Intel Wins Simulated Moorestown vs. iPad Battle Intel's Atom running Chrome in Windows XP beats the Apple iPad running Safari. Earlier this week Intel launched a new generation of Atom system-on-chip processors that are aimed capturing a share of the mobile market. Current and previous Atom chips have done an amazing job at monopolizing netbook hardware, but now Intel wants to go after the devices such as cell phones and tablets – an area dominated by ARM. Right now, the king of ARM processors for mobile devices appears to be Apple A4 chip, which is widely believed to be a Samsung Cortex A8 chip clocked up to 1GHz. Apple touts the iPad as being incredibly fast, and hands-on experience has shown that the device is incredible smooth with the iPhone OS. But a new simulated test shows that Intel is faster, even while running Windows XP. UMPC Portal ran a browser test between an iPad and Viliv X70, which has its Menlow-based Atom platform running at 800MHz. While this isn't a test between Moorestown and the ARM-based A4, the practical architectures between Menlow and Moorestown should be quite similar. In a webpage loading test, the 800MHz Atom Menlow running the latest Chrome on Windows XP matched the loading speeds of Safari on the iPad. When the Atom was cranked up to Menlow's 1.3GHz ceiling, the Windows XP tablet was able to load faster than the iPad – even with Flash enabled. The simulation leads us to believe that the Moorestown running at a 1.5GHz speed would be even faster. Check out the video below for the test. -
HTC has said that it won't be submitting an offer to purchase Palm, despite the rumor mill saying otherwise. Over the last few weeks, there has been speculation that Palm was accepting buy-out offers and one of the companies rumored to be offering, or at least thinking of offering, was HTC. It made sense for HTC to acquire Palm's vast IP portfolio. Currently embroiled in a patent infringement lawsuit with Apple, owning all of the patents currently owned by Palm would be a great weapon for HTC. However, it seems HTC is not interested. Citing people with knowledge of the situation, Reuters reports that HTC was approached about making a bid but decided to pass after reviewing Palm's books. Lenovo is now said to be the front-runner for acquiring Palm. However, Palm's CEO Jon Rubinstein has said he thinks the company can still operate independently. In a recent interview with the Financial Times, Rubinstein said, "Palm can survive as an independent company. We have a plan that gets us to profitability." Rubinstein did say that the board would have to consider a reasonable offer if it was presented to them but he seems confident that the company can pull itself back up. The CEO even said the company may let other mobile manufacturers use its WebOS operating system to boost revenue.
