Hi, Before buying GTran mobile instrument and use RConnect I was using KPPP dialer and connecting VSNL Dialup through landline. Today I tried to connect VSNL Dialup through KPPP and could not connect. The error was "Authentication failure". After running debug I found that, although, VSNL userid and password was correctly configured in KPPP the ppp interphase was still using the Mobile # as userid and password and hence I was getting "Authentication failure". I would like to know which config file needs to be modified for this. Another question is how to configure so that both the options (RConnect and Landline) remain available? kagashe

Hi, I am using Ubuntu 5.04. It is fantastic! Those who can't wait for free CDs to reach them can buy at very reasonable price at: http://roseindia.net/linux/ubuntu5_0_4.shtml Please note that I am not advertising for this fellow. It is just for information. You can buy any Linux distribution here cheaper than the cost of download and burning CDs. kagashe

Hi, I purchased HP/COMPAQ Presario Laptop with tailor made CDs of Mandrake Linux 9.1 in Sep 04. Why I am using the word "tailor made" because it got installed very smoothly and selected the correct driver for all devices on its own. I had chosen KDE as my default desktop and was very happy with all the applications. There were some sites which required mandatory use of Internet Explorer so I downloaded Cross over office because it has the correct version of Wine (Windows emulator) and installed IE 6.0. Subsequently I bought Mandrakelinux 10 CDs and upgraded my OS. Recently I bought Ubuntu install CD and now have dual boot system with Mandrakelinux 10 and Ubuntu 5.04 (Like people have WinXP and Linux). I have also installed Ubuntu on my daughter's desktop which had WinXP Home. It is also dual boot with both systems running. For the desktop I am not getting the Linux driver for PCTel 688T modem. So the desktop has to use WinXP for connecting to internet which is not safe. I use Firefox and Opera browsers and have learnt how to fool the web sites which insist on Internet Explorer. Now I rarely use IE 6. I was using Shorewall (Firewall) but I could not configure it for dial up connections. I have come to know about Firestarter firewall recently. It is very user friendly with graphic interphases. Just like what is Zone Alarm for Win 95/98. I have posted elsewhere about how I configured RConnect dialer for Mandrake Linux and Ubuntu. Nice forum you people have here. kagashe

Hi, I would like to share my experience of downloading the Linux driver from Relianceinfocom web site, modifying it to suite my Linux distribution and use it successfully. I have GTran GC4020 handset but the method can work for any handset. I downloaded the tar.gz file and installed it as per procedure and tried to connect. I was getting an error that pppd could not find the device. I looked at rconnect.conf file in /etc/rconnect and found that pppd was looking for the device in /dev/input folder as ttyACM0 whereas the PC was linking the device differently. Initially I used Mandrake Linux 9.1 and found the device was located at /dev/usb/acm/0 I changed the rconnect.conf file so as to point to the device and it started working. Recently I installed Ubuntu 5.04 and found that the device was located at /dev/ttyACM0 and once again modified the file and it worked. How I located the device link? By reading /var/log/messages I am confident that the driver can work for any Linux distribution after trying it in Mandrake Linux and Ubuntu. kagashe <TOPIC MOVED!>

Hi, I have HP/COMPAQ Presario Laptop Model 2514AT in which Mandrake Linux 9.1 is installed through CDs supplied by HP. I have purchased GTRAN GP-4020 handset, downloaded the software available on Relianceinfocom site and tried it. It is not working. My operating system is able to detect the modem and putting it at /dev/usb/acm as ttyACM0 The Relianceinfocom software tries this device in /dev/input I have tried to change it to /dev/usb/acm but I am getting an error that pppd could not use this device and proceed further. I have KPPP dialer and when I try to querry the device I am not able to open the modem. It is possible that there is a lock on the modem. How to solve it? If I can querry the modem through kppp I can try the settings suggested in the sticky post for Fedora. I found this forum on google search and registered here. Please help me. kagashe NB I have tried the handset on my friends PC on WindowsXP and the RConnect dialer worked fine and I could use my mobile # to log in and surf. After writing the post I tried once again with RConnect software of Relianceinfocom. The device was /dev/usb/acm/0 and not ttyACM0. I changed it and now it is working. Now my problem is speed. I am getting a speed of 31 Kbps only. <TOPIC MOVED!>
