  11. Reliance Closing Customer Experience Programme?

RCOM starts GSM services in Delhi 2 Feb 2009, 0041 hrs IST, TNN Print Email Discuss Share Save Comment Text: NEW DELHI: Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communication (RCOM) on Sunday started its GSM mobile operations in Delhi, offering lifetime validity to subscribers at Rs 49 compared to Rs 99 by the existing service providers and free talk time of Rs 450 for a payment of Rs 51. The free talk time of Rs 450 can be used in a tranche of Rs 5 per day for first 90 days. Besides this, a subscriber would get double talk time in every recharge till March this year. The company has also offered unlimited night calling facility to any Reliance (CDMA or GSM) subscriber between 11 pm and 6 am by paying a monthly charge of Rs 15. RCOM, which is the largest CDMA player in the country, with a subscriber base of 52.5 million as on December 2008, rolled out its GSM service in January from Mumbai. In less than a month, the company has expanded to all India (11,000 towns) barring Jammu and Kashmir. RCOM regional manager C S Rana said that the company will roll out its service in J&K any day. 12. Deepak Sharma went on record with the Guinness Book for having sent the most SMS messages in a single month: 182,689. We’re not sure if that’s total, or unique messages, but if you’d like us to break that down for you, that’s about 6,100 messages a day, 253 an hour, 4.2 a minute, or a new one every 14 seconds or so.” reports Engadget WebIndia 123 reported that “Deepak Sharma aims to increase the number to 3,00,000 in the coming month. Sharma received a bill of 1411 pages this month, which was sent specially to him by Airtel. He is making the best out of Airtel’s scheme of unlimited SMS with 99 paise.” Airtel is one of India’s top mobile operators. They would never have thought this Ludhiana man would have used their unlimited SMS mobile scheme to set a world record. Maybe Airtel is thinking of closing this mobile phone SMS payment plan soon! read the story on http://www.quickonlinetips.com/archives/20...ile-phone-plan/

  18. Vodafone For 666..!

Vodafone set to redial telecom price war with Rs 666 handset It’s official now. Along side the Nokias, Samsungs, Motorolas and Sony Ericssons there’ll be a new mass cellphone brand in India - Vodafone! Vodafone Essar, which will spend nearly Rs 250 crore on a high-profile brand transition from Hutch to Vodafone being unveiled on Thursday, is poised to launch cheap cellphones in India under the Vodafone brand. It will also launch co-branded handsets sourced from major global vendors. “On the heels of the brand change from Hutch to Vodafone, Vodafone Essar will launch an array of low-cost cellular handsets in India which will be directly marketed under the Vodafone brand or co-branded with select overseas handset makers,” a Vodafone Essar director told ET on condition of anonymity. “The objective is to leverage Vodafone Group’s global scale in bringing millions of low-cost handsets from across the world into India and use Vodafone Essar’s famed cellphone distribution reach to maximise sales,” he added. With Reliance Communications (RCOM) recently launching ultra budget handsets with prices starting at Rs 777, the industry buzz is that Vodafone would lower the entry barrier to an unbelievable Rs 666. There’s also speculation that Vodafone may follow the pricing model of Rs 666, Rs 777, Rs 888 and Rs 999 for its ultra-cheap handsets. The Vodafone director refused to confirm this: “I cannot share pricing details but there will be no discounts or subsidised handset offers. Instead, Vodafone Essar may come up with innovative handset-bundled schemes for its 35 million consumers.” Company sources also said that the bundled handsets will primarily be distributed through Vodafone Essar’s four lakh-odd distribution outlets. “Vodafone Essar is also entering collaborative arrangements with some of the top vendors to achieve unprecedented sales,” a top company official told ET. While CDMA players like RCOM and Tata Teleservices have adopted handset-driven expansion strategies to drive up subscriber base, this is the first time that a GSM player is venturing into this space on a pan-India level. China’s ZTE, which is looking to set up a cellphone manufacturing unit in India, is expected to provide many Vodafone handsets in India. Early this year, Vodafone inked a global low-cost handset procurement deal with ZTE. ZTE global vice-president (handset systems) He Shiyou told ET that as per the deal, Vodafone would offer ZTE’s handsets to its subscribers in India. “ZTE hopes to ship over 10 million of these to India. Though, we ship high-end phones to the West, our plan for India revolves around low-cost phones, which we offer in collaboration with operators there,” Mr Shiyou added. The company will unveil the Vodafone brand on Thursday in one of the biggest brand transition exercises in the recent times. According to PTI, Vodafone will keep in-tact its predecessor’s assurance of following customers wher-ever they go, but will replace Hutch’s ‘Wherever you go our network follows’ catchline with ‘Make the most of now’. 19. Apple Iphone Review

Apple Warns Hacking iPhone May Harm It Apple - IPhone owners who have unlocked their handsets so they could use carriers other than AT&T Inc. may end up with a phone that doesn`t work after the company`s next software update, Apple Inc. warned Monday. Since the iPhone debuted in June, hackers have posted a number of methods online to make it possible to use the iPhone on cellular networks other than AT&T, which is the exclusive official carrier for the iPhone. Apple executives say they have discovered that many of those unauthorized unlocking programs cause some software damage to iPhones. Now, a software update that Apple plans to issue later this week that will add features such as accessibility to the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store may end up making the touch-screen cell phone completely inoperable if it has been hacked into. "This has nothing to do with proactively disabling a phone that is unlocked or hacked," Phil Schiller, Apple`s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, said in an interview. "It`s unfortunate that some of these programs have caused damage to the iPhone software, but Apple cannot be responsible for ... those consequences." Schiller said he didn`t know how many iPhones are operating on different carriers. The programs - including several that can be downloaded for free, and at least one that costs $25 - appear to be particularly popular with consumers in Europe. Many Europeans have bought iPhones in the United States, but Apple will not be selling them or providing service for them in Europe until November. "From the consumer point of view, this is extremely concerning to anyone who has unlocked their phone - especially people outside the U.S., where this is the only way to use the iPhone with any carrier," said Erica Sadun, a Denver computer programmer who developed a graphic interface for one software program that unlocks the iPhone. "Apple has essentially told them, `Sorry, we cannot work with you.`" John McLaughlin of Uniquephones.com, in Northern Ireland, has developed unlocking software, but his Belfast-based company hasn`t sold or distributed it. He called Apple`s warning "something of a scare tactic." Anyone who has already unlocked their phone could get it back in working condition, he said. "We have reviewed the source code of a number of these applications and to the best of our knowledge any changes made to the software can easily be reversed," McLaughlin said in an e-mail. "After unlocking the iPhone, minimal effort is required to get it in to its previously locked state." As with any Apple product, hacking into the iPhone voids its warranty, Apple said. Apple has sold more than 1 million iPhones since the product hit the market June 29. source physorg.com
