  1. Hi Friends, I need to buy one gsm + cdma handset for my sis. Have gone through HTC DESIRE VC CDMA + GSM whichi si available @ ~ 14k in India. Can anyone suggest a better deal or even better alternative ? Both Dual standby is required & if possible good battery back up.. Any rimweb member here with good / bad to share experience for htc desire vc cdma ?

In such scenario, any member willing to chip in can consider this. Well, future will only tell, what happens, but after going through website of AAP, I found that they are really trying very hard to connect people in this entire movement. Otherwise, for most of the other political parties I never knew the process to donate money / candidates selection process etc etc. Hope, this AAP party becomes Android of Political World, which created major shake up since arrival, like palm, nokia, blackberry, symbian etc etc.

    Available in RWW, Baroda @ 9500/-. Saw physically & found to be good looking. Little heavy compare to my Epic 4Gtouch. But, lady there told me that it is due to heavy battery. And, when I asked her about the RAM. She flipped through various pictures on the box & delightfully informed me 4GB << that's the inbuilt storage & ram is 512 MB. But, without any source, she also informed me that "sir buy now" since price rise is likely to occur in near future..

    I had faced a similar problem in past, where MIN was not NOTED DOWN, earlier.   8. In Goa, there is pretty good coverage of CDMA (as far as tourist areas are concerned). Personally I have not checked it, but my wife visited few months ago & never complained about coverage. But, it was a visit as a tourist, so all major areas / routes only may have been come across. Mumbai, I don't know, but being a Metro, sure they would have taken care of that. Matheran, never been there so don't know, but out of few hill stations, I have visited like shimla, coorg, lonavala, I have found their network pretty reasonable coverage. In fact, during my last visit to Coorg in Apr 2013, I specifically, borrowed one Ided sim & a GSM phone in case of CDMA betrays us. Eventually CDMA only helped us all the time, even in coffee plantations little faraway from Coorg main areas. Idea phone was not working all the time, in between when it got some signal, it used to d/l all stupid sms for internet activation etc etc. Also, deducted some 30+ rs for activation of some caller tune, which was not asked for, but got activated by some calls from their system. So, I think CDMA should be a good choice. For Network coverage you can visit Reliance Website, where they have given tower locations on Google Maps. So, you can check your places & see if tower is available or not. I don't know how much reliable & updated this data is !! But, in Relinace CDMA / GSM you can activate free Roaming by some recharges like 180 Rs / 6 months etc (also, available for 1 day , 1 months & like that) So, apart from good coverage, you can expect good savings also. PS : If possible, she should travel with at least 2 network SIM (whatever cdma or gsm). And if you want to have 'contact available' all the time, then call divert facility can be used. phone 1 should divert call to phone 2 when not reachable & vice versa. This will ensure, that whenever others call her, "out of coverage area" chances will be low..Carrying 2 phone is only a little issue to tackle, but if looking for a phone also, then HTC inc2 will be the best choice. Dual Network (but only one active at a time, so call divert may not yield result all the time) Hope, this helps..

    I would like other forum members to know this Reliance GSM coverage issue in Pune my relatives are facing. They always complaint that Reliance GSM network is highly unreliable in their area. Exact location is Near Amanora Mall, in Hadapsar, Pune. See attached picture, wherein most of the towers are located near Pune station & around. In Hadapsar, there seems to be no GSM tower of reliance. Can this be true ? I mean, have they only got license for the city or it is strategy to serve only city ? Any idea, if this can be a SIM card problem also ? Hope to get some idea on this. Any more details are required, let me know.

    If we leave aside above debate on how much genuinely people pay "real" taxes. Problem will remain even in that case. Since, country's lawmakers has (purposefully) forgotten the fact that People's money has to be used for people's welfare & nothing else. If you see many of the expenditure pattern in last few years, it is horrible for a third world country. someone spending 1000+ cr on elephant statues in a city, whereas more better could have been a reliable / economical public transport system or better roads. Someone spending 2000 + crores on free laptops (as promised in election), whereas more better could have been give these money to those govt school teachers to motivate & create good quality students. Someone announcing 1 Cr / 5 Cr / Free house to some cricketer ( on winning some CUP), whereas more better could be to have a new stadium or few tennis courts for common people. (if space is the limitation). Some one announcing free "made it india" tablets to lakhs of students, wheres more better could have been instead just equip the school with a very good library facility. We announce Moon mission / Mar Mission etc, whereas when a Naval sub (that too bought from Russia), sunks, we rush to Singapore to salvage it. Same thing happend in last Dec 2012, when Delhi brave girl was taken to Singapore for medical treatment. A country of 120 b people.. I am a salary class person & compulsory have to pay the taxes (they take it away before it comes in my hand !! - TDS). But, I find it disturbing always that, these idiot class of lawmakers have found out stupid avenue to waste our hard earned money.. Better & highly fictional model is - just take some 5 to 10% taxes from all for defense / policing (necessity) & make everything chargeable, like parking, using roads in city, using water, electricity, dumping waste, using public garden, using public transport etc etc.

    ^^^^ Don't believe such rubbish articles now days published on daily basis in such local news papers. They have completely become unreliable (when it comes to news which concern larger audience) Article mention Kapil Sibbal, but nowhere it mentions source of news. I have a doubt, if Kapil Sibbal knows this himself. Otherwise, he wouldn't have sent 2 Aaakash tablets to Modi. Banning Android phone won't help, as internet was available on nokia / bb / apple phones as well. So, eventually Govt will have to stop all other OS, eventually taking this country to landline era !! A possible, strategy to keep BSNL into business
  13. It's done Yes busybox was installed. ES Explorer root permission was not given ( I had to figure it out later on) & then, change permission or root folder to be RW, then only it allowed me to create a folder "init.d" & place above mentioned file. After rebooting, there was no test.log file I could find in root / data. Then, I reinstalled above apk "Uni-init v1.0.apk" & clicked on Activate & it did the trick.. While validating it gave me message that "SUCCESS ! You have init.d support !" So, I guess I am there. But, IMPortant question. Will this automatically lead to improved battery life or some other settings / programming required ? Let us know that if yes.
  14. Hi, I tried doing above to find init.d support for my ET4G. I can access system root files (as phone is rooted) , but it is not allowing me to create a folder in 'etc' folder. It says "Sorry, operation failed". I am using ES File explorer. Next I tried following steps. In RED are my "requirements check" After following, steps 1, 2 & 3, it goes exactly the way it should. But, step 4 gives me result that it is not done. Message is as follows. It says "Possibly, you don't have init.d support...Did you try the Activate button ?" I have tried Activate button multiple times, & after 4 or 5 seconds, it shows me "Done". What am I missing here ? I am on Stock Rom. 2.3.6, Baseband Version S:D710:10:S:EL29 I am facing problem of heavy battery drain & weak signal reception. Can anyone help me with above ?
  15. Try "GPS essentials". There is an option of "Tracks" in main page. It simply tracks your co-ordinates with respect to time at the interval you specify. Lateron, you can export kml file, which can be read directly on text editor or google earth etc. It has multiple options like pause (which avoids long kml file), saving location etc. Have tried it few months back & it works like charm. I just used it to measure, accuracy of travel path & check related charges by hired taxi. Attached are two images. PS : It doesn't need data connection or even network. Without network, accuracy of pin pointing may get affected, but I am not sure about that, with very little knowledge of GPS basics.

  17. I need to buy one of this router costing between 1 to 1.5k. I was going through conventional 'normal' looking routers with antenna. However, this device looks compact & some add on features. However, I am doubtful about two things.. 1) Will this device limit my range to few feet only ? A conventional wifi router gives me good singal strength in all my 3bhk rooms on same floor. This device seems to be very small & that too without antenna, so can this deliver signal strength enough to catch good reception in all part of home ? Then, it may be possible to relay movies on hard disc to my wifi enabled LCD, without a need of laptop. Provided hard disc can be connected..     Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: 0.005 Star Rating << that too smallest star they have found in universe so far.. oh my god. should have read this before I went through this torture film y'day. 6th. Cheap tickets 70 rs each for 2 @ Cinemax a'bad. After the movie was over, I felt like I have forgotten my money somewhere. Rajan's word exactly describes the film, but this time Indian marriage drama was full off alcohol flowing from every tap in the house or hotel whatever it was. Consider this a close buddy attending the marriage, drinking liquor worth 100k in the 3 hr movie. When movie was started & displayed Dharma Productions etc etc..& immediate movie sequence of marriage gifts being packed like dressing up the bride etc >> then, I got some inclination that I have been through this torture before !! but it was too late to check tickets to read that money is non-refundable.. I would prefer watching "Hitch" 10 times over this..
  22. Root or no root what difference does it make? ROOT will help you restoring back up easily. If you have root then you can install WIFI tether and use it. Flashed stock GB (2.3.6) without any problem with #434 & some 'moral' boosters from rimweb members. Followed process given in link givein in post #434 & things have happened exactly the way it should. Phone has reverted back to it's original stock rom condition. 1) Entire process took less than 20 minutes & without any error message. 2) Data backup was taken, but no data was wiped off. Only contacts/sms/call history was wiped. It was resotred using "Super Back up" on google play. 3) I had removed external SD card in order to avoid formatting, but, this process has not done any formatting of memory it seems. 4) Voice / sms / data / evdo everything works file. Wifi Hotspot is working. NOW, I would like to know how to stop this phone from downloading latest OS upgrade OTA (whenever connected to 3g or wifi) & then keep on insisting me for install ? Hi Joshm, can you please, help me with this ? I don't want to upgarde OS to ICS, what is the way out. Since, whenever, phone connects to network, it will auto start downloading latest OS updated in back ground & start troubling me to install.

  25. Refer my problem above in post # 431, still no solution is in sight. In fact other problems also have cropped up, like phone restarting without any intervention. Some application which used to run smoothly earlier, now getting force closed. Batter draining ultra fast & many other issues. So, as per the post below I guess, I will have to revert back on 2.3 I have found a nice simplified process here Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch SPH-D710: Flashing stock Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread EL29 firmwareI have following questions for expert members. Request you to reply/share knowledge in order to take informed action. 1) Does this reverting back (flashing original stock rom on GB) will affect my other phone (basic) functions like voice/sms/evdo ? It shouldn't happen that once I flash it everything is gone (like happens in factory reset option in HTC Rhyme), phone looses its ability to connect with network. 2) In case of a problem (loss of network connection) with step no 1 above, is there any easy method to get network / evdo back on the phone with some simple setting on phone or some software ( I mean without sending the handset back to seller). 3) File name mentioned in above link is "SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED-oc-sfx.exe", does it mean that the stock rom with room access will be installed ? Since, there is some file on internet available for non-root access. NOTE : Complete RISK of doing this is on ME only, so DON'T worry for the reply part, as all responsibility lies with me. Taking risk without knowing anything is far more dangerous than knowing beforehand.. Hope, to get help as usual from this forum..
