  1. Eagerly waiting for the first ported customer to share his/ her experience. I agree, if one goes by govt rules, today people should find their numbers ported. Please share your experience about donors, recipients and the intermediary.
  2. Rajanbhai Do you have any idea how much time it should take to port in a number from the date of submission of documents? I submitted my documents on Jan 20 and still have no intimation from either the donor or recipient about the present status of my request. Except for two smses from Reliance saying that my request is being processed, there is no communication. Also, is there anyone here whose process is complete? His experience can be of immense help.
  3. MNP Retention Offer You Received

Dear friend Have you checked Idea network at your place? Check it first before you shift, because now you are cribbing for bad Loop network in Airoli, later on you may have to do the same for Idea too (if its not proper there). I am an Idea customer for past one and half years. Work near CST. Idea network is excellent in south Mumbai, but when I enter my office, it goes blank. There is no network on the ground floor and the lift. I tried complaining to Idea several times, they acknowledged the problem, but have not provided any solution to that. Whereas, when I checked in office, I found Vodafone, Airtel, Loop, RCDMA networks excellent. Hence I am now moving to RCDMA. So better check network of the new service provider you plan to move, at your house or office (what ever it is), before you take a call.
  4. Have applied for porting of my Idea number to Reliance CDMA. Got sms from Reliance today saying the request is now under process. The real question now is how my donor service provider reacts. I am not worried about what plans Idea provides, as I have made my mind to move to Reliance CDMA. I am more worried about whether Idea allows me to move to Reliance smoothly or throws a spanner in the process. The next six days will give an idea about how the donor service providers are taking MNP.
  5. MNP Retention Offer You Received

Dear members, I have a very interesting experience to share. Yesterday afternoon, I had shared my experience about MNP and RCDMA in the forum `Much awaited MNP finally introduced', where in I told how I went to Reliance webworld in Thane to get my Idea postpaid number ported in to Reliance CDMA on Thursday, and rather than being received well, was instead told to visit next day as they were not equipped with instructions and procedures. I had then moved to the Tata indicom office next door where everything was in place. I had forgotten my experience after posting in on Rimweb and was waiting for MNP to materialise. I am thankful to Rimweb forum for its fantastic reach and how things moved thereafter. It seems some top boss from Reliance took note of my post on Rimweb and swung into action. He called up the Reliance webworld in Thane and hauled them up on how they could decline a port-in customer. Fortunately for the webworld people in Thane, I had left my mobile number with the staff. One of the top guys then frantically called me convincing me not to go anywhere other than Reliance. He was very apologetic that his staff turned me down and said this was something unexpected. He then sent some one to collect my documents and did that. That sweet guy convinced me to cancel my port-in request to Tata Indicom and now I have filled my new MNP request for Reliance CDMA. The Reliance webworld people have assured me that they would visit my home today to get my signatures and complete other formalities, besides deliver me the new SIM card. I am waiting for them to visit me. May be because the top boss from Reliance pulled strings, but I am overwhelmed to have invoked such a pleasant reaction and attention from Reliance CDMA to my port-in request, more importantly after sharing my experience on Rimweb. I hope these guys wake up now and extend the same attention and treatment to all mobile users who visit Reliance to port-in. I have not been told yet about the tariff they are offering for getting my postpaid GSM number ported to Reliance CDMA, but I am sure they have something good in store. Congrats Rimweb....keep it up. They must not be expecting any port ins lol that is why they are not bothering with telling WW of process, else by now they would have been active like other operators trying to woo customers. How did the WW people react when you told them you wanted to port in did they gasp and fall off their chairs?
  6. I went to Reliance webworld in Thane this morning to get my Idea GSM ported. To my shock, the staff asked me to come tommorow saying that they still do not have instructions on how to complete formalities. They noted my number and said they would call. Impulsive I am, I moved next door Tata Indicom office, where they had everything ready. From a new CAF form to procedures etc. Although some of the staff members fumbled on how to get UPC, it was sorted out. After submitting documents, they have issued a SIM card with a plan avaliable with them. No special plan. Its 300 Rs rental with equal number of local minutes and sms free. Local calls @ 30 p, landline @ 50 p and STD at Re 1. I was told the entire process will be completed in three days. Now waiting for the actual porting to happen.
  7. TRAI has already promulgated an order yesterday announcing commencement of MNP from Jan 20. That order is binding on all service providers. Also, TRAI has released advertisements in newspapers announcing commencement of MNP from tommorrow. It means it is an irreversible process now. Vodafone or no Vodafone, MNP shall begin.
  8. I have been using Idea for the past one year. Network is good all over Mumbai. I travel on the central line, and Idea network is good all over except in some patches between Ghatkopar and Kurla. I face call drops only in this patch, otherwise, call quality is very good elsewhere. But I plan to give up Idea because I work in a south Mumbai office and network quality is poor inside my office. Despite several complaints, there has been no improvement. All other networks, Voda, Airtel, Loop are perfect in my office.
  9. Is MNP coming for sure from Jan 20? I asked a friend in Reliance mobile marketing and he said there has been no communication to them although the launch date is just 15 days ahead. According to him, MNP may be postponed for two more months.
  10. MTS Launch

Why don't I see more members speaking on the MTS voice services? Pls share your advice on MTS voice services. After going through the postpaid plans announced by MTS, it appears that they are very competitive in home circle, but the tariff in roaming is no where competitive to Reliance. Their add ons are also neither attractive nor simple as Reliance. Equally strange is their condition of security deposit of Rs 500. I mean the amount is not big, but which postpaid voice service provider asks for a deposit (except ISD)? Some where in earlier posts by members, I read that MTS may take over Tata Indicom if its expansion plans currently on, are to be observed. How far is this rumour true?
  11. MTS Launch

Saket, thanks for the reply. Actually I plan to shift to one of the CDMA networks after MNP. Will you suggest me MTS or should I try among Reliance and Tata Indicom? I had visited Rural place in Amaravati disctrict, maharashtra, MTS mobile chages it's network to tata indicom CDMA 1x, Also You(MTS) being foreign customer or roaming on tata indicom network, Calls are sometimes not get connected easily. tata mobile calls getting connected, but MTS mobile calls not getting connected 1/10.
  12. MTS Launch

Has anyone tested MTS network in rural Maharashtra? Will someone share his experience of MTS network in rural Maharashtra vis-a-vis Reliance and Tata Indicom?
  13. Should I Go For MTS?

Will someone pls enlighten about MTS operations in Mumbai and Maharashtra. I am an Idea customer planning to switch over to either Reliance CDMA or Tata Indicom after MNP. I have heard a lot of MTS, but have not seen too many posts on MTS coverage and tariff in Mumbai and Maharashtra. Will someone please help?
  14. Gmail On Nokia E63

Its not difficult to set up Gmail on your E63. I am using it for the past one and half years. Its easy. First of all ensure that you have internet enabled on your cell number. Because, mine earlier was a GPRS enabled, where in I could not configure email. Once that is done, its a cake walk. Go to the email setup located in installations folder and follow instructions. It will download a Nokia pushmail set up and ask you to key in your Gmail login and password. Thats all. In case you wish to configure more email IDs, you have to repeat the process. Dear friend, try this process. Visit your cell phone provider's technicians in case any problem.
  15. I am optimistic about MNP taking off from Jan 20, 2011. I have checked with the technical staff of 2-3 mobile service providers and this is what they said. According to them, systems to execute MNP are in place with majority operators. All can start MNP by this month end itself. But no operator is in a hurry to introduce it early, hence all will stick to the Jan 20 deadline.
  16. Malaysia, Thailand can have MNP within months, but India is taking years to implement it. Doesnt it smell of a big conspiracy of mobile service providers. Why is the government not willing to probe and give reasons who is responsible for the delay? I read in this forum itself that other countries are imposing heavy fines on service providers for the delay of each day. Why cant it happen in India? Why is government silent on this issue?
  17. It is true that when ever MNP will be introduced, only 4-5 percent of mobilephone users will actually move from their existing operator to another initially. In a country with millions of mobile subscribers, the figure of persons opting for another operator using MNP may appear insignificant, but one should understand the importance of MNP per se and not judge the phenomenon by figures. Firstly, in India, the concept of loyalty towards a mobile number is not accepted and assimilated by people, predominantly because people have the feeling that to change an operator for what so reason, there is no option but to change your number. So people hop from one operator to another, changing their mobile numbers and wasting money in SMSing others about their changed number. There are very handful for whom changing mobile number matters a lot, mostly due to professional reasons. This group has stuck to its operator for years together despite the shortcomings in service it might be facing. So far, there has been no accurate data available with any government body or mobile phone operators on how many connections any individual in the country has procured in his life time and for what reason he did that. I am sure if any such study were to be conducted, one would realise that an average mobile user has changed at least two service providers to get better service or tariff plan and in the process has changed mobile numbers at least twice. I am also sure that the figure of such persons would be huge and not limited to 4-5 percent as is being claimed by mobilephone operators. Would you not treat this figure as a benchmark of the transition users are looking for? It will take months, may be years together for majority of people to realise that changing mobile numbers to change your operator is a passe. Now they could move without changing their numbers. More importantly, even if one presumes that less than 10 percent of mobile users would actually avail MNP, the system of MNP is still necessary for the sake of accountability of service providers. Let us for a moment presume that since only one or two percent population commits murders in our country and this figure being miniscule, government decides to withdraw any penal provision for murder. Will it be acceptable? The issue here is not about figures but general impact it would have on people. Same applies for MNP. The MNP system would keep operators under pressure to perform and now allow them to take customers for granted. MNP would make them accountable to every customer and not just the creamy layer of high-billed postpaid customers. One needs to look at the larger picture here and that will ensure success of MNP.
  18. Samsung Mpower Muzik 219 Cdma

Can anybody help me to know how I can transfer my contacts from PC to Muzik219?
  19. Samsung Mpower TV S239

Do they provide a CD of PC studio along with the phone? I plan to shift from my Samsung muzik 219 to S239 Mpower.
  20. I plan to shift to Reliance CDMA from my Idea postpaid. It may look strange but I have got positive feedback from Reliance CDMA users. I have network problems in office with Idea and despite several mail, the issue has not be sorted out. All they do is promise me to work out.
  21. True, Reliance has bungled again. Till yesterday, Reliance CC was telling that MNP will begin in Mumbai from Dec 7. But today when I asked them, one told me that they have not been notified yet. Same response from Idea CC, which said `the date was being finalised'. Everybody was so eager to have it in Mumbai as early as possible. Now it seems, we are again at the mercy of operators. One more thing. For the past few days, I have been using mobilephones of my friends (with various operators) to send sms to 1900 to check if it was working. Got back smses of MNP from Idea, Reliance GSM, Reliance CDMA, Docomo, except Vodafone, which replied saying the request cannot be processed now. Is Vodafone prepared to accept MNP? Is it one of the causes for delay in implementation of MNP in Mumbai?
  22. Superiority of CDMA over GSM

Hi Anand Though I do not have a technical background, I could still understand the differentiation you made between CDMA and GSM. I have a few questions about both technologies. I will be glad if you could answer them. 1) Which technology will eventually prevail, CDMA or GSM? 2) I am a basic user of phone, with a basic phone requirement. Which technology is better in my case, CDMA or GSM? 3) Why do you receive bigger smses in pieces in CDMA, while in GSM you get through all at one go? 4) Why is Nokia not into CDMA handsets anymore? Will be glad if you could answer these. tks.
  23. I am glad MNP is arriving in Mumbai and Maharashtra in the first week of December. There is also a good news for people from Mumbai and Maharashtra. I read a newspaper report saying that Mumbai and Maharashtra will be merged as a single mobile region from December end. BSNL has already done it but others have been asked to do so by December end. So no more roaming charges when moving from Mumbai to Maha and vice versa.
  24. Samsung Mpower Muzik 219 Cdma

Hi, I have recently purchased Samsung Mpower Muzik 219. I did not get a USB chord with the phone. Would someone please tell me how much does it cost? Also with the help of Samsung PC manager, can I synchronise my Outlook contacts with the Muzik 219 phone memory? Last query, does anyone know about Brew? When i tried to open it, the phone asked me to get an upgraded RUM. Does anyone know what does it mean? Its been just a week since i have been using this phone (earlier I used the cheaper LG basic CDMA models) and I find the model appealing. Battery is fairly good, phone is easy to navigate, fairly good phone contacts memory, and not to mention, really good music system.
  25. Interesting Experience With R-Gsm

At present, mobile telephony appears to be in a phase of transition. In days ahead, one may find private operators growing or shrinking, new technologies like 3G making inroads, while mobile portability may even change the entire dynamics of the game. Things might change drastically in coming months and hence it is in the interest of mobilephone users to stick to their present operators they subscribe to, at least for the moment. No point in shifting to other operator just on the grounds that the customer care is good or bad, network quality is good or bad etc. Please wait for things to settle down and it may take an year or so. At the end of it, it is likely that there will be a big churn, leading to the fitter players staying afloat and those not so fit, going out of the business. That will be the time when subscribers will come to know about the champions and dark horses and it will be then that one chooses the best.
