Biggies line up for Railways call centres Biggies from the IT and telecom industry, including Airtel, BSNL, Reliance Infocomm, Tata Teleservices, HP, Wipro and IBM, are eyeing the Indian Railways call centre operations, which would be outsourced. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which is entrusted with the job, had invited tenders from consortia, including a telecom firm with pan-Indian operations and business process outsourcing (BPO) firm, to set up and operate Railways' call centres. The call centre would have to provide basic train enquiry services at the cost of a local call for passengers calling from anywhere in the country. But it can have premium pricing for value-added services such as hotel booking. About 25 firms have bought the tender document, said sources. They include telecom majors such as Airtel, BSNL, Reliance Infocomm and Tata Teleservices. Players from the IT/BPO sector who have evinced interest include Avaya Global Connect, CMC, HP, IBM, Wipro, MphasiS BFL, HCL Comnet, HCL Infosys, Spanco Telesystems and Intelenet Global Services. Moreover, there are companies such as Jupiter Strategic Technologies, Pagepoint Services, CS Infocomm, Stracon, Matrix Processing House, Cranium Information Technology and IMI Software. Bidding process The consortium, which is required to establish, operate and maintain the call centres at North, East, West and South zones, would have to specify the licence fee it would pay to Railways or the viability gap grant it would need from Railways to operate the centre. The bidder quoting the highest licence fee or minimum viability grant would be awarded the contract. The successful bidder would have to provide a performance guarantee of Rs 1 crore valid for about 10 years. The project would have to be completed within five months of the contract being awarded. For subsequent delays, firms would have to pay a penalty of Rs 1 lakh a week. Railways receives about 14-15 lakh phone calls a day for various queries; it generates substantial revenues for the telecom firm in whose network the enquiry number resides, as it gets the termination charges. Spectrum for Customer Base for 3G Rollout in India
vmsanghrajka replied to @ksh@T's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Government to release 60 MHz of spectrum for 3G by 2007 Business Standard / New Delhi August 28, 2006 The department of telecommunications has prepared a road map for the release of 3G spectrum, under which it would require the defence ministry to vacate 25 MHz by the end of December 2006, and another 35 MHz by 2007-end. 3G mobile services permit high-speed internet access using different wavelengths, and allow operators to offer mobile broadband services like video-and audio-streaming, among other things. The road map, if implemented, would mean there being not enough 3G spectrum for the eight pan-Indian mobile telecom operators by the end of this year. Telcos require a minimum of 5 MHz each to run 3G operations. This implies that only five of the eight mobile operators across the country can operate 3G services by the year-end. The main mobile operators include Bharti, Hutchison-Essar, Idea Cellular, BSNL, Reliance Communications, Tatas, Spice Telecom, and Aircel-Maxis (both of whom are going, or will go for an all-India licence). In the second year, however, there will be enough spectrum for all the existing telcos, and it might be possible to give them even 10 MHz each to run 3G services. Spectrum of 5 Mhz is enough to support over 3-4 million 3G customers per operator, with heavy data applications. The defence ministry is now using most of the 3G spectrum bands for its own equipment. However, it has agreed to vacate them in phases, for which it requires new electronic equipment. And that is expected to cost over Rs 1,000 crore. At a meeting cellular operators had with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) a week ago, the discussions centred on how to distribute the scarce resources. One suggestion sought offering the spectrum to five telcos, while the rest shared the infrastructure of the others for the time being. In that case, customers of telcos that had not been granted 3G spectrum could roam on the networks of the other five operators. This is possible as none of the operators expects to rope in 5 million 3G customers within the next few years. The selection of the five operators, the COAI suggested, could be based on a parade that took into consideration different parameters — the quantum of investment committed, the cheapest 3G tariffs promised, among other things. Rift Between Reliance Communications And Tata Teleservices On 3g Spectrum Policy
vmsanghrajka posted a topic in The Lounge
NEW DELHI, AUG 18: A serious fall-out between CDMA biggies Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL) on the allocation and pricing of 3G spectrum has weakened the CDMA lobby in their representation before the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on the issue. As a result of discord, the CDMA industry body Association of Unified Service Providers of India had to opt out of the joint meeting convened by Trai with GSM body COAI on Friday. The row now threatens the future of Auspi. The spat intensified late Friday as TTSL independently wrote to Trai reiterating that CDMA operators be allotted 3G spectrum in the 1900 Mhz band. It also sought that an entry fee be charged from the operators for the spectrum. In the past, Tata group chairman has suggested that the 3G entry fee should be Rs 1,500 crore. Sources close to Reliance said Tatas have been taking totally different stand on major issues, be it 3G spectrum allocation and pricing, or subscriber verification, leading to their “complete isolation from the industry”. Industry sources said that Auspi backed out of the meeting at around noon when the Tatas and Reliance stuck to their respective stand on allocation and pricing, making it difficult for Auspi to project a unified stance. Sources said TTSL has little trust in Reliance’s stance because the latter has applied for GSM spectrum and is straddling multiple technologies. “There appears to be some dissonance in the CDMA lobby with Reliance seeking to commence GSM operations also,” an industry source said. Reliance’s stand on 3G spectrum pricing has been that the government should charge Rs 150 crore for all A circles put together, Rs 100 crore for all B circles and Rs 50 crore for C circles. In addition, it has advocated revenue share as per the present structure. Reliance’s position is quite similar to COAI’s, which maintains the industry should be made to pay only the amount required for reclaiming of spectrum from defence forces. COAI believes high entry fee would make the 3G services unaffordable for the masses, which would be against the objectives of the government. NEW DELHI: After Idea Cellular, it’s the turn of Aircel to enter the lucrative Mumbai circle. Just a few days after clearing Idea’s application for a Mumbai foray, the department of telecommunications (DoT) is learnt to have given a nod to Aircel as well. Besides Mumbai, Aircel will be permitted to go to Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, according to a source. DoT has given an in-principle approval to Aircel’s entry into these seven circles. In a statement at its recent annual general meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Maxis Communications, which is a Malaysian mobile operator with a majority stake in its Indian joint venture Aircel, said, “as part of its strategy to be a pan-Indian player, Aircel has applied for mobile licenses in the remaining 11 circles.” Interestingly, even Idea put in its applications to DoT recently for a pan-India presence. Aircel is the leading mobile operator in Tamil Nadu. It also operates in West Bengal, Orissa, Assam, North-East, and Jammu & Kashmir. The company is also planning to roll out services in Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Currently, there are six mobile players in Mumbai, led by Hutchison Essar with over 2 million users. BPL Mobile, which was meant to be merged with Hutch Essar but is now caught in a legal battle, has around 1.3 million subscribers. Bharti Airtel has 1.3 million and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) 1 million mobile users. CDMA players Reliance Communications with around 1.7 million and Tata Teleservices with 0.4 million mobile users are the other two players in the city. Bharti Airtel is the only telecom player to be present in all 23 circles in the country. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd is present in all circles except Delhi and Mumbai, which are the territory of its sibling MTNL. Among other significant players, Hutch Essar operates in 16 circles, Reliance Communications in 21, and Tata Teleservices in 20. News Source: DNA Ltd. Ambani-owned Flag Telecom Shifts Head Quarters To Navi Mumbai
vmsanghrajka posted a topic in Reliance Communications
Navi Mumbai: Flag Telecom, Anil Ambani-owned submarine cable services and bandwidth provider, has transferred its network-operating centre (NOC) from London to its headquarters in Navi Mumbai. An NOC is the heart of a submarine cable system that remotely monitors and controls the system from a specific location. The centre is also responsible for restoring connectivity and maintenance and repairing as and when a fault occurs. The relocation of the NOC took place from Heathrow to the company headquarters in Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City, Navi Mumbai. The Reliance Communications’ subsidiary has also appointed Mark Heraghty from global telecom major Cable & Wireless (C&W) and Bhaskar Thyagarajan from US-based Sprint Telecom. According to a company official, “The shifting of the NOC to Mumbai will enable the company to shift all its major operations, except sales. The operations to be shifted include engineering, execution and revenue functions,”. Flag Telecom is also setting up regional operation centres in the US, the UK, Hong Kong and the UAE, all of which will be monitored from the Navi Mumbai NOC. Source: V2P Correspondent -
I think anil ambani is also doing good.. Creating wealth for people, what his father was best at. I think its not right on our part, to constantly compare him with his father.. We have to understand that they both are different individuals and dont think the same way.. Also, having said this, Mukesh is no smaller (or bigger for tht matter) than Anil.. They both are good (in some cases bad, but who isnt) in their own capicity. Cheers!

A new round of conflict broke out between the Ambani brothers on Friday with the faction led by Mukesh alleging 'harassment' of its employees by Anil Ambani group company Reliance Communications at its headquarters at Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City, a charge denied by the other side. RIL sources said that its employees were 'harassed' and were 'being denied access to cafeteria, temple and other facilities,' and wondered as to why its employees should be subjected to such a treatment on 'payment issues that are discussed at the management level.' When contacted, sources at Reliance Communications termed the allegations as 'fictitious, distorted and malicious' and said that access to the temple at DAKC has never been barred to anyone. In its counter-attack, Reliance Communications contended that RIL had defaulted in payments of nearly Rs 200 crore (Rs 2 billion) for use of facilities at DAKC for over a year in spite of several reminders. Complaining of harassment for the last three days, including denial of access to computers and software, RIL sources said that the treatment was against the 'nature and the spirit that exists between the two.' In an e-mail to its employees, RIL, headed by Mukesh, said: 'The turn of events is most unfortunate and unimaginable. But, RIL management is confident that all of us will be resilient. I am sure your erstwhile colleagues, friends and relatives working in Reliance Communications would also share sympathies,' the e-mail by a top executive of RIL human resource department said. Terming as 'unilateral and arbitrary,' the order of Reliance Communications management giving just one day to change the ID cards, RIL in its mail regretted that their request for a week to make the changes in the ID cards was disallowed. "We are therefore trying our best to issue revised cards as soon as we can. We will attempt our best by again appealing to the top most management of Reliance Communications to reconsider the decision of its unilateral, arbitrary order of giving us just one day. We, therefore, hope that Reliance Communications management will not subject (RIL employees) to avoidable humiliation that some of us had to undergo at the main gate recently," the mail said. But Reliance Communications sources said: "RIL personnel have free access to all facilities in their part of area within DAKC." Listing out various other issues of harassment, including parking, common area and dining area, RIL appealed to its employees at DAKC to exercise restraint and support the management, saying it believed in treating everyone with equal dignity and humanity and would still continue to do so. "We are confident that RIL staff is not at a security risk at Reliance Communications," the mail said. On the shortage of parking facility, RIL has in fact suggested to its employees to go for a 'car pool,' saying 'apart from this minor car parking issue, all of you will appreciate the necessity to conserve fuel in the current crisis of fuel price in the country.' RIL said that it was meanwhile making efforts to examine an alternative parking arrangement outside DAKC. "We are still hoping that the Reliance Communications management will reconsider their unilateral order and allow us additional parking," it added. On other facilities, RIL contended: "The Reliance Communications management is insisting that RIL staff cannot visit even common areas like food court, ATM and most unfortunately, even the temple. "We will continue appealing to them that at least the religious sentiments should not be hurt by stopping the people who are habituated to visiting the temple before or after work hours," RIL said. Amid these problems, RIL has requested its employees to explain to their visitors to come with prior appointments to teh national headquarters or petroleum headquarters to avoid embarrassment.
