Reliance Communication To Enter Gsm Services
vmsanghrajka replied to abhay's topic in Reliance Communications
ADAG planning big rollouts Monday, March 19, 2007 (New Delhi): Anil Ambani lost the race for Hutch but he is still in the running for a mega GSM expansion. Reliance Communications has been planning to go big on GSM for several months now but spectrum delays had held it back. However, now the GSM spectrum is likely to be available by July this year and the company is in advanced talks with Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola for a big GSM tender for 75 million 2G lines and 25 million 3G lines. The value of the tender is estimated to be about $6.5 to $7 billion. Reliance Communications sources say that if everything goes according to schedule, the company should be able to become a pan India GSM player by 2009. That would make it the only Indian company to have a significant presence in both the mobile platforms. That's one reason why the company is such a hot favourite among big market players. In fact, the markets like most of Anil Ambani's companies including the one that operates neck deep in the Indian markets, Reliance Capital. The latest positive vote has come from Merrill Lynch, which has come out with a very bullish report on the company. -

Reliance Communication To Enter Gsm Services

Anil gears up for challenge Mumbai, Feb. 12: Anil Ambani may be gracious in defeat, but he is steeled in his resolve to up the ante as he hunkers down for the bruising battle that lies ahead. On Monday, Ambani said his group would make a capital expenditure of Rs 11,000 crore (or $2.5 billion) in the next financial year to ramp up operations. Ambani is clearly gearing up for the challenge and the threat that Vodafone presents. Most of the telecom companies, including Reliance Communications, have been spending Rs 5,000 crore or so as capital expenditure every year in their operations. So, Reliance Communications’ plan to double that figure signals that Ambani means business. Ambani has been mulling the option of expanding this GSM network — which is currently concentrated in the east and Northeast — to other parts of the country. There was no indication whether the new capex plan signalled an aggressive foray into the segment next year. In his statement, Ambani said, “We congratulate Vodafone and welcome them to India. Vodafone’s participation is a further endorsement of the exciting future growth potential, and the progressive policies, prevailing in the Indian telecom sector. Speaking about the Reliance bid, he said, “Reliance’s bid was made in line with our publicly declared and consistent philosophy of sustainable value creation, and financial conservatism, in the face of truly challenging acquisition valuations.” -
I saw a news flash on CNN IBN that vodaphone is front runner in the race and the bid is around 18-19 billion USD and Reliance Comm is goin to issue a statement very shortly.. Story is unfolding minute by minute.. Its interesting

Big 92.7 Fm From Adlabs (reliance) To Roll Out First Phase In Six Metros
vmsanghrajka replied to abhay's topic in Reliance Communications
Adlabs to start FM service in Chandigarh Anil Ambani-owned Reliance group’s Adlabs Radio will kick off its FM Radio service ‘Big 92.7 FM’ in Chandigarh soon. Also, in the fray are Synergy Media Entertainment Ltd’s “My 94.3 FM, Dil se”, which is planning to launch its services in Chandigarh by February. Not only Chandigarh but also the small cities like Hisar, Karnal, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala would witness the proliferation of FM radio services by private players soon. Out of more than 250 FM stations scheduled to be launched, the region (comprising the Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir) will have 25, with two in Chandigarh, four in Jalandhar, four in Patiala, four in Amritsar, four in Hissar, two in Karnal, three in Shimla and one each in Jammu and Srinagar. Speaking to Business Standard, Adlabs Radio Regional Head Mohit Sharma said, “Initially we would launch our services in Chandigarh followed by Patiala, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Shimla and Hissar.” Reliance has bid Rs 15.61 crore for the Chandigarh FM radio licence. Recently, they launched their services in Jammu & Srinagar. Experts believe that the launch of the FM services in the region will give tough competition to AIR (All India Radio) Chandigarh that has been serving the northern region. Also, it would create demand for radio jockeys, voiceover artistes, scriptwriters, and technicians. So this would be boom time for radio producers, broadcasters and all those related to this profession. But at present the industry is facing scarcity of trained manpower. Synergy Media Entertainment Ltd Station Head told Business Standard, “There is a scarcity of trained manpower in the industry. We need creative people not geniuses moreover it doesn’t means that creative talent is available in metros only or Chandigarh, so we are ready to recruit people from small town or cities also.” She said, “We would start our service in Chandigarh by end of this month or in the first week of February and later on in Amritsar and Jalandhar.” Hardeep Chandpuri, director of one of the training institutes said, “There is immense demand of Radio artists in the region, so in order to bridge the gap between demand and supply we are engaged in training manpower. Lot of our students got placed in Adlabs and Synergy media.” -

Hutch sale starts, bids in, auction follows Arun Kumar and Indulal PM New Delhi/Mumbai, February 9, 2007 The battle to buy Hutchison Essar entered a decisive stage on Friday, with three of the four contestants in the fray meeting the midnight deadline for submitting their rival bids. All three bids have been submitted by e-mail. On the block is the Hong Kong-based Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd’s (HTIL) 67 per cent stake in the telecom major, for which the British telecom giant Vodafone Plc, the Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Communications Ltd, Essar, which controls the remaining 33 per cent stake, and the Hindujas are all vying. The first three have submitted their bids, while the Hindujas, who completed their due diligence on Friday, are also in the race. An HTIL board meeting was likely to be called on February 11 to approve the bidding process, said sources close to the deal. This will be followed by an extraordinary general body meeting (EGM) soon after. These sources said the first two bids were in the vicinity of $18-20 billion (Rs 81,000-90,000 crore), while Essar’s was somewhat lower. The Essar group, which has the first right of refusal over HTIL’s 67 per cent stake, has reserved its rights and participated in the bidding process. Sources close to Essar said they had tied up with Stanchart and Citigroup for financial assistance, which would be above $16 billion. “We have been informed that after receiving the bids, HTIL will reveal the highest price offered to each of the remaining bidders separately,” said one of the bidders, adding: “Each will be asked if they want to revise their bid. It will be very similar to the bidding over Corus, except that, in that case, the United Kingdom’s Takeover Panel was the regulator. In this case HTIL will handle the bidding itself.” http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/5922_19...02100000000.htm

Whose Hutch is it? wonders Anil2007-02-02 09:09:45 Source : Moneycontrol.com Reliance Communications Chairman Anil Ambani is brimming with confidence. He says his company will have no problem raising debt, and has raised the company's capex guidance for the next fiscal. CNBC-TV18 has the details. Whose Hutch is it? That will be decided in the next couple of weeks says Anil Ambani. Addressing analysts in a conference call, Ambani said Reliance Communications would take a conservative stand on Hutch keeping in mind the company's objectives. "Being an in-market consolidation, it brings us significant cost and operating synergies. However we will take a conservative stand on this opportunity keeping in mind our overriding objective of sustainable value creation and profitable growth," says Ambani. That might be an attempt to play down valuations, which have reached astronomical levels of USD 20 billion. After all, on Wednesday Arun Sarin said he would not overpay for Hutch. So, this could be positioning by Reliance Communications ahead of the final bid. Ambani also said raising debt would pose no problem. The strategy is clear. Ambani is betting big on GSM, Hutch or no Hutch. R-Com has already created additional capacity of 10 million GSM lines, and that's not all. Coverage of GSM services has been extended from 600 to 2,200 towns. R-Com's GSM spectrum application is pending with the government and Ambani is confident of getting the spectrum this year.
