Has anyone tried to download their addressbook from RMW to a BB? i get data errors: if the original entry was 'Ab cd' uploaded i get 'ab ab cd' downloaded i.e., the last name/label is repeated in the BB phonebook on an unrelated note the first & last names also get swapped but that's a different problem!

I've started getting almost a dozen stock tips type SMS daily from: 96770 40616 but i can't call this MDN since it does not exist the number is so high that even deleting them is a major aggravation. is anyone else having this problem? did TRAI set up some short code to lodge such complaints / fwd SMS?

Problems With Huawei Ec 168c Hsd Installation/working -
city02 replied to ACS's topic in Data services
i can't get the EC168C working on Vista but it works on XP the fact that Vista is on a HP laptop & XP on a Zenith should not really matter IMO the geniuses at WWE/RCO suggested i 'upgrade' Vista! what the $%@# would i be upgrading to? they kept at it for over an hour and even uninstalled my old data stick software on the assumption that it 'conflicts' has anyone got it working on a vista laptop yet? -
OK, i found out that someone came for address verification between 10-6pm on fri when we were at work! of course no slip of paper/phone/sms/email was sent that anyone would be coming apparently we have to be psychic or unemployed to get a reliance connection! why have they started refusing mobile, bank, credit card bills for address proof? has anyone else faced this problem? its very irritating...

Free Cash Withdrawals From All Atms From 1st April
city02 replied to savramesh's topic in The Lounge
i like playing devil's advocate: the country has - along with many other items/goods - very few ATMs for the banked population this under-penetration can only be resolved if it makes financial sense to deploy new ATMs transparency in charges is actually more important than making it free and discouraging any new ATMs being set up outside urban areas had the rule been that the charge inclusive of all taxes must be posted on each ATM in English, Hindi, and the regional language; the customers would know before stepping in how much they would have to pay and can decide if its worth it to pay Rs. 50 or go further and maybe pay only 25/= at the next one this would encourage unserved areas to get ATMs also since the choice many customers face is no ATM in their neighborhood vs paying fees for the convenience this move will actually hurt the 'common man' in the long run due to shortage of ATMs short term gain = long term pain there will be very little 'pain' in the metros of course - only rural & semi-urban areas will suffer the most -
actually that's correct since headphones have the least radiation possible [another 1/4 - 1/3 less than flip depending on the model] but i often forget to carry them along so flip is the next best option!
-
I'm also waiting for a dual phone with camera preferably flip instead of bar since it reduces the radiation to your brain by 1/4th - 1/3rd since the antenna is angled away from your head while in use.

do you have any kind of desktop charger for nokia? i need to be able to recharge my 2nd battery directly while my handset is using the 1st one

i use hdfc sec but their website s**ks hard. i mostly end up phoning in my orders. i have to setup my own excel worksheet to track my avg cost basis & update over the net. hdfc can't always tell me the avg cost for stocks that were bought over a year ago or an IPO allotment. since i'm not a day trader, i rarely place market orders [immediate execution at current price] i mostly do limit orders and try to keep the ticket size over rs. 5 k since the min fees is rs. 25/- or 0.5% e.g., if the price is currently rs. 123.45, i would place a buy limit of 50 shares @ 120/- or a sell limit @ 125/- whenever the price falls below my avg, i try to lower my avg cost by buying some more as long as it is a liquid script and a stable/known company which won't fold up in a few weeks/months my biggest issue with indian stocks is that limit order expire at the end of the trading session unlike the US where you can place them for 30-60 days [fire & forget] this encourages longer term investors to put floors & ceilings on their gains/losses without resorting to options i also wish someone would introduce ETF [exschange traded funds] that are linked to well known indices like BSE Realty so we did not have to buy individual stocks of multiple companies just to get exposure to a particular sector these are different from realty mutual funds due to their greater transparency and control [this is true of all index based funds which are considered 'passive' vs. actively traded funds in general]

i have been using credit cards for over a decade now and have never had to pay late fees both my cards are on auto debit where the full amount is deducted every month the problem with blanket prescriptions is exactly that - they can't be applied blindly there is a risk of getting killed in a road accident on a daily basis yet everyone does not give up crossing the roads or driving their cars credit is neither good or bad - its just a tool that can be used or misused like anything else if you don't have the self control, don't get cards or cancel them [especially if there are any annual fees] i feel a lot safer not having to carry cash around since i can cancel my cards if i lose my wallet i also need very little forex when i travel abroad there are many 0% emi offers that i have availed of to buy ACs, TV, fridge etc which are only available on certain bank's cards if i lose my receipt, my monthly statement has proof of all transactions with dates its much easier to buy tickets or stay at 4-5 star hotels with cards rather than cash abroad you can't even rent a car with cash anymore now we can get cards with our photo on them to reduce fraud. you never have to worry about counterfeit currency printed in pakistan / bangladesh. every year a larger % of transactions is happening with cards globally as we inch towards a cashless society in a few decades once mobile payments become common ...
-
i have heard kotak offers a 0% emi for 3 months on any purchase over a certain min amt... i don't know about balance transfers [bal xfer] the only reason i don't use them is the lask of online bal xfers like they have abroad where you can do it over the phone and the payment gets directly sent to the relevant card instead of sending you a cheque which you have to use to pay the bank. you could lose a week in transit until the credit is applied to your account. even personal loans have upfront fees & prepayment penalties.

actually i got worried after watching TV on Thu night about 3/4th of pumps running dry in the city. all 5 of the pumps that we checked in navi mumbai were closed on fri which included the reliance one near palm beach marg. i made my driver wait for almost an hour in queue to fill LPG & petrol even though i had 1/4th of LPG left & 3/4th of petrol in my tanks. i think TV makes these situations worse by encouraging more viewers to go for panic filling which causes more shortages...

dear satish, i'm planning to buy the 2938 handset are there any more being released in the next month by rcom/coolpad? its a bit of a pain to buy extra chargers & battery since the service centre is not in navi mumbai

i've had HDFC sec for 5 years but the site is so bad / hard to use that i never really use it. i just subscribe to a few IPOs annually after the sensex crashed below 10 k i started buying in small amounts over the phone as long as the amount is over rs. 5 k, the min brokerage of rs. 25/= does not kick in since i'm not a day trader or even a 'week trader', this slow and steady approach works for me now i'm waiting for the sensex to head below 8 k to buy some blue chips at close to their book values...
