  1. Yes it will shorten the battery life - but that's unavoidable unless you choose to switch one SIM off. By using common components like antennas, displays etc, the drain will NOT be double but more around 2/3rd - 3/4th more than a single SIM. Customers who carry around 2 handsets currently will be happy to carry a single handset and extra battery instead.
  2. Yes, I meant dual mode as opposed to dual SIM (GSM only).
  3. anyone know when Spice is planning to enter Mumbai? I need this handset badly!
  4. broadly speaking dual sim has evolved: 1st gen = offline asynchronous (restart handset to switch) 2nd gen = online asynch (no restarting) 3rd gen = synchronous (both SIMs on/able to get calls) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_sim
  5. of course not! the radiation comes from the type of handsets not the SIM. * flip phones minimise exposure (angled away from your head) and bar phones maximise it. * the angle at which you hold the handset makes a big difference. * if the phone is switched off it has zero radiation while its max during use/talking (standby is in between and varies depending on distance from the nearest tower) * using a headset reduces the exposure you would get to that on a bright sunny day at high altitude which is nominal * the intensity falls off exponentially with the cube of the distance since its a volumetric measure * if you use your handset for < 1-2 hours daily, there is no measurable impact in multiple international studies * TV has almost 1/4th the intensity and PC monitors about 1/3rd that of a mobile (since PCs are usually much closer) * analog handsets had 3-4 times the intensity of digital phones (99% of those in use) don't focus on absolute risk as it is irrational relative risk is much more important and relevant: you are far more likely to die travelling by bus, train, auto etc than due to your mobile's radiation does that mean that you will never leave home? ;-)
  6. A friend of mine who works at DAKC mentioned this ironic story so get this verified independently: Hutch is offering CUG 50 postpaid plans to all Reliance employees and their agents had to be shooed away from DAKC gates since they were doing such brisk business about 1-2 quarters ago. Apparently the security also confiscated dozens of Hutch GSK from the DSA who were running away! The RIPL employees (over 2/3rd of DAKC population) are NOT eligible for the discounted company plan for RCOM so they get better rates from the Hutch offer. Since I don't have a GSM, someone who does should compare this offer: * FREE itemised billing & CLIP * 200 FREE SMS * Rs. 50 + 12% tax monthly rental * Local GSM = 30p/min * Local others (CDMA & landlines) = 60p/min * STD on-net = Rs.1/min * STD off-net = Rs. 1.70/min Now that's what I call bold sales tactics!
  7. Dakc Employees Sigup With Hutch!

That's why I mentioned to get it verified yourself. It was launched almost 5-6 months ago and my friend has been on it. It could have been a limited time offer and now is withdrawn. Call yourself to get the dope directly from the DSA: Utpal = 98205 08311 / 98203 56300 Rama = 98203 56600 Don't complain if the numbers are busy/off - I have not checked them! Both could have quit Hutch since then also. Don't cite any references/sources for this info either - its just something I heard verbally that was amusing...
  8. I don't think that's the MRP, it might be the cost before all the retailer margins and taxes are added on. But it would be a good deal @ an MRP of Rs. 100 / VCD and Rs 200 / DVD since that's close enough to the pirated prices of Rs 75 & 150 respectively.
  9. Who's Who ...

Just thought we could get this one over and done with!
  10. Who's Who ...

we need a min of 30-40 votes to make this a statistically sound sample... keep voting!
  11. Who's Who ...

is it not clear? just specify which category you fall into. any employment relation with RCL / RIC / RADAG or not.
  12. The race for Hutch stake !

TRAI mandated free incoming (CPP regime) for all mobile operators and RCL had little to do with the decision
  13. The 140 M base for India is totally hyped.Once independent audits are mandated for ACTIVE subs, I think it will fall to around 100-125 M nationally. The telecom minister had publicly admitted about 7-8% over statement but I feel the reality is around 10-20% inflation. When we figure out how to count UNIQUE subs, it will fall further to around 75-100 M domestically. The least inflated counts are for landlines, followed by postpaid mobiles. Prepaid has max 'fudging' of numbers. We are not alone when it comes to hyping our base (South Africa had similar issues):
  14. just does not seem to be a big deal. would the chinese be insulted if they were called 'bloody chinese'? so what? we should just call them 'bloody americans' and move on... the media seems to be hyping it - the security got into a tussel with the parents but no kids were deliberately hit as of last night tv reports. angelina did not order any of her guards to hit anyone so its not her fault. if any violence happened, a police report should be filed as is the norm. totally making a mountain out of a molehill.
  15. Insurance Free

as far as i can make out only GSM & FLP users are NOT eligible all Mobile & Hello (CDMA only) are eligible they also seem to be updating the FAQ in regional languages maybe its a 'soft launch' as no PR about it yet
  16. Airtel & Reliance Datacard Comparison

price for RCL datacard is down to Rs. 5 k for over a quarter now...
  17. I'm using this service for over a month now and since my mobile bills are reimbursed - price is not a big issue. My LG RD 6000 has a paltry 50 SMS inbox limit so I've fwd almost 25 SMS to yahoo to date. Its a good start but for future versions, we need some automated way to cc: yahoo mail so we don't have to send each SMS which is a waste of time. A tie up with each operator can fwd ALL SMS to yahoo and boost revenues also while saving us time.
  18. Tata's Motorola A840

As per my info, you are 'locked' into CDMA domestically. Only when you roam internationally can the GSM be used. So its unlikely you will be allowed to use any indian GSM operator for now...
  19. Mukesh Ambani To Return His Mercedes Maybach

Why do people all over the country spend lots of money on seemingly useless things? - Because they CAN!
  20. Pricing!

Those of you lucky enough to be in the trial area for Netway in Navi Mumbai would have noticed the sample pricing in the monthly bills online. For the rest of you (this is VERY much subject to change without notice): Rs. 100/month flat fee (base rate) - from Jan 2005 onwards Rs. 50 /mth for each movie downloaded (unlimited views/replays in that billing cycle) - from Jan 2006 Rs. 25 /mth for each music video or song (unlimited replays in that billing cycle) - from Jan '06 Rs. 5-10 / mth / TV channel (depending on usage - you only pay what you watch!) - from Apr 06 You can actually see how many min you watched EACH of the 75 odd channels left (there were over 125 at the peak). Also the stmt has the timestamp for each movie download. So my monthly bill (not due yet) is about Rs. 100 (base) + Rs. 100 (TV) + Rs. 200 (VOD) = Rs. 400-450 + taxes (currently not computed). The threshold levels seem to be about 1 min / channel / month and 10 min / movie after which they are billed. They have not yet started billing additionally for broadband on the STB so assume that its unlimited access for the 100 flat fee which may well not be commercially viable when they launch... PS: The rumors are that further price cuts for movies & songs could be expected for the launch to about Rs. 25 & Rs 10 / mth respectively
  21. Mukesh Ambani's Great Gamble

where? we are in nerul... belated welcome!
  22. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/869836.cms PS: I noticed this a few days ago when I got an international call from north america with a 5 digit caller ID!
  23. Project Complete!

Good lord! it took me some time to pull out this almost 2 year old doc... I could post it here but the limit is just 1.6 mb its 2.9 mb in size...
  24. Readme!

Welcome to the Kyocera sub-forum. This is for the discussion of all smartphone related issues & news. We define a 'smartphone' as mobile + PDA (single device). Hopefully we'll soon see other models also available ... Until we have a new sub-forum, this is also the best place for all Palm related topics.
