Similar stories are playing out at Centre One in Vashi where there is no parking available on weekends. Also R-Mall in Mulund which is infested with the 'ayah' types who enjoy the lights & AC (not that there is anything wrong with that). They are the ones in large groups who keep stumbling onto the escalators with a truck load of kids! This congestion forces out genuine shoppers so while footfalls sky rocket, conversion rates plummet. A simple solution would be to have paid parking on weekends which can be stamped for a refund if you buy anything over a set amount. Also a Rs. 5-10 (again refundable) entry ticket would cut down on the hoardes.

if you are located in India, simply buy a copy of voice & data magazine. its Rs 50 (< 1 euro) and has all the stats about the mobile industury you'll ever need if abroad, goto: http://voicendata.com/content/stats/103072804.asp http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articlelist/13354103.cms http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articlelist/75160.cms http://www.relianceinfo.com/webapp/Infocom...a/MediaHome.jsp

as i mentioned before: maybe laptops could become projectiles during landing/takeoff but they do not interfere with the electronics of any jet so the reason could still be safety in general but not specifically EM interference... if any device in an aircraft causes interference at ground level, it would still do so at any altitude so laptops should not be switched on ever if they did actually do any harm.

That's not true anymore: - no airplane in the history of the world has ever crashed due to radio interference from any kind of phones or even towers which have 10-20 times greater power outputs at least - 10-20 years ago the shielding against any kind of interference was much lower than today and analog phones would emit @ much higher power levels so it was more of an issue - ALL modern jets have redundancy built into all critical systems including shielding from direct lightning hits which are usually in the millions of volts and which also hit an avg jet once/week over the long run globally - the EM interference produced by the SMALLEST direct lightning hit is equivalent to about ALL the passengers & crew talking on their mobiles at the SAME time for the ENTIRE duration of a long distance flight (6-9 hours and 250-350 people) as pointed out on the Discovery Channel about 1-2 months ago when they were showing the construction & testing of Boeing planes! - the MAIN reason that airlines continue with this practice is both inertia (too lazy to bother changing) and commercial since they need to force passengers to use the expensive in flight satellite phones - the MINOR reason is that since planes are travelling @ over 250+ km/h, the mobile is passing through towers every few secs so a lot of 'control' traffic is produced with each handover from base stations which clogs up the cell capacity and affects ground subscribers - the TRIVIAL reason would be for other passengers peace of mind, the airplane cabin is quickly becoming the last outpost against the aggravation of stupid ringtones going off very loudly for a few hours - ALL aircarft avoinics are shielded against very high levels of interference (including analog & digital cellular transmissions) since 2000 with new regulations being passed in the US and EU (Boeing & Airbus) Think about it: if airplanes were so sensitive to interference from mobiles, there would have been a world wide ban on all cell towers within 5-10 km of any airports and no one would be able to use their mobiles inside any aiport due to lack of coverage. Also the planes would have started dropping out of the air like flies during landing/takeoff which are the most critical times of the flight. PS: I'm not endorsing the use of mobiles when an airplane is off the ground since it does impact subscribers below but there is no SAFETY issue with it. When the plane is taxing around the runways, there is virtually NO issue of any kind... maybe i spend too much time watching netway!

they are obsessed with deleting msgs without permission which started when they launched their voice mail 1.5 years ago - i think the same person is incharge of both!

So Anil Ambani Now ...hw Does It Change Things
city02 replied to Alok's topic in Reliance Communications
I'm not trying to defend one brother or another but its a little silly to think that a Wharton MBA who has handled billions of dollars of financing for the last decade would not have 'business sense'. unless you all are getting your info from people who have directly dealt with either one, its all simply rumors with little basis in fact. yes, his choice of political bedfellows is questionable but not his business acumen. in fact he has been arguing for more transparency, accountability, and better corp gov for the investors for almost a year now. only a handful of indian business leaders wont have any political skeltons in their closets (Ratan Tata comes to mind) but as long as they do the right thing for their stakeholders, thats always more important in the long run... -
So Anil Ambani Now ...hw Does It Change Things

i think 100 M by '08 is a bit optimistic but its doable by 2010... but 20-25% share is certainly more probable by 08. i did not think they would reach 5 M after the 1st year, and they made it by having 'soft' and 'commercial' launches spaced out over 4-5 months and good old monsoon hungama after which they recently had to get rid of almost 1 M defaulting customers. so if we deduct the 1 m, we get 4 m in the first year of commercial service and about 3 m in the 1 year after soft launch. the point is it seems to be possible to claim success by simply changing terms around! -
Credit Limit On Reliance Postpaid Subscribers
city02 replied to bellamkonda's topic in Reliance Communications
Have u tried going to RWW/WWE also? As long as u have been paying all ur bills on time the limit can be increased 1-2 times/year (as i was verbally told about 9 months ago). there is an element of discretion to this limit so remember to be nice to the WW manager! -
http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articlelist/75160.cms read all the articles for the last few months on RIC...
-
i agree, also can't seem to save SMS & speed dial settings via pc sync...
-
i agree its unrealistic but even Rs. 100-200/month would be excellent. in fact the rate could be fixed with an SLA (service level agreement) to the min download speed: 64 kbps for Rs. 64/month 128 kb/s @ 128/month 256 kb @ 256/mth etc this would be easy to remember & understand BTW, i've notice sustained speeds of over 500-600 kb/s on my netway broadband while downloading about 9-10 Mb files for the last 1-2 weeks... but i know it can't last!
-
but RIC had over 20-21 K employees as of last year and is expected to cross 25-26 K by the end of this year. Since it includes top mgmt, the avg would be higher at around 3-4 L each. This drives up the total to about 800-900 Cr and rising...

So Anil Ambani Now ...hw Does It Change Things
city02 replied to Alok's topic in Reliance Communications
this is actually a tough question: i agree that most new projects will be delayed for 1-2 quarters at least pending review & revisions & even possibly renegotiations if the vendors have F&F links (friends & family) to the current bosses, they will probably get terminated/axed this will be a short term negative (delayed launches) and a long term positive (more transparency & better corp gov) Anil would not want to sell or close RIC since he will be left with a relatively small empire; despite the fact he opposed the methods used, he is still passionate (at least publicly) about dhirubhai's vision (in general) of cheap communications for the masses (in particular) -
do you have copies of all ur msgs? if so take the entire set with dates to a RWW to lodge a complaint maybe there is a consumer insurance forum to send this also CNBC has a forum where they address such issues too
-
actually i've heard people mention it being benchmarked to STD rates of about Rs. 4-5/min or about 250/hour here (which is still too expensive for radio)
-
the address of DAKC is: Thane-belapur road, koparkhairane navi mumbai - 400709 but u will need some kind of block/bldg to specify which dept

Can I Use Handset Without Reliance Knowing
city02 replied to rakesh5295's topic in Technical / OS related
which handset is it? they should have a reward for returning it... do the right thing! -
the handset 'answering machine' should get around the 5 msg limit of RIC vmail and also give you the ability to 'screen' incoming calls which is very handy and most important its free to hear your msgs without paying for any airtime charges AND you can still hear them when you have NO network coverage! the only downside is that in phones like the RD6000 you only have a few (3-4 min) of rec time...
-
In 2001, you could buy operator specific mobiles in the US for $50 and many were subsidising them even further (free with 2-3 year post paid contracts). As long as the operator is capable of 'locking in' a mobile to their network alone, they can bring it down to a monsoon hungama level of about 500-1,000 (total cost not down payment for a 1 year contract) for unlocked mobiles, i think that 1,000-1,500 is about as low as they can afford to go...
-
if you can get a RD6000 equivalent with infra-red & speaker phone, it would be ideal... (i would have paid 1,000 more for EACH of those features!)
-
It seems so unlikely that Mukesh would ever agree to such a settlement. I feel its wishful thinking... If Mukesh agrees to give IPCL to Anil it would be a huge victory for the weaker camp (let alone RPL biz). Its hard to imagine him giving the petroleum part over when he explicitly demanded it earlier. however it does seem the most fair division but since when did that ever matter?

i have seen MTNL advertising free roaming incoming in mumbai newspapers due to its tie up with BSNL but thats about it... its a good way to reduce the cost of spam calls when travelling.

if you can pay, you qualify - thats all they care about...
