That's the problem with copy & paste I suppose... Their names are already in the Bio (TMC) topic with photos, I'll get around to updating the names in a week or so. http://www.rimweb.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=820

No operator objects to users changing ringtones/logos. If they violate copyright then you are correct - they should be removed. Does not bother me at all since its absolutely the right thing to do! Any other helpful/constructive suggestions? We're all ears ...

what the ...? I fully agree we should try to correct whatever we can but how can we fix 'misleading ads'? What is misleading to one might be OK for another - its too subjective to legislate except for extreme cases that are clear cut even abroad. I'm NOT trying to make a case against consumer protection acts which are badly needed but will also not solve the problems either. 'A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step' and all that good stuff but lets try to be a little realistic here. My point is very simply 'Buyer Beware' until we reach that utopian world when all marketers act responsibly in the consumer's interest. (Don't hold your breath for that one!) Of course not - its more like getting a sense of perspective and having a porportionate response to a given problem/issue. That's also not entirely correct since most of us (at least those over 21) can go out and vote (yet almost half don't so we end up getting the politicians we deserve). What if that reasoning had been applied during independence? An extreme example I agree, but that was a huge problem, yet it was important enough to overcome/resolve. So bigger ones CAN be dealt with (at least some of the time)...

I'm assuming that's a rhetorical question but just in case: Of course its not ethical, but is that really a surprise in this country? We are usually ranked in the top 5-10 most corrupt countries in the world annually (finally we beat China at something!). Our 'neta-babu raj' has resulted in massive pervasive corruption throughout virtually every aspect of public/social services. Its 10-100 times more unethical than any advertising/mkt by any pvt co and much more damaging to the country as a whole for the last half century. We are OK with criminal politicians and foreign PMs (almost!) but not with ads that might 'stretch the truth'? If only we acted as indignant when corrupt policemen asked for bribes or judges were caught with disproportionate assets, etc. Its like criticising the color schemes of the deck chairs while the Titanic slowly sinks ... (It may be a valid point but relative to the bigger issues its quite trivial). Where is the sense of national pride/duty for the really big issues?

my guess is that cust care should be: 93333-33333 in the new system when its activated

And bad things should not happen to good people, and innocents should not be killed in any wars, and no one should go hungry ... since the world is not a perfect place, we'll just have to learn to live with: Lies, Damned Lies, and Advertisements! Take nothing at face value, and assume the worst possible outcome in any dispute so you will rarely be dissappointed!

ohh look at all those pretty lights and colours... now they just have to get it all to work properly! PS: I have split the above image since it was too wide, here is the 2nd part...

Actually I would have to disagree with Arun: 1. TiVo has already been offering this on its DVR for almost 4-5 years, 2. RIC is not getting paid by advertisers - the channels get paid for ads. 3. We are talking about recorded content since you can't FWD live telecasts (that would be like Back to the Future!) 4. Other STB with recording also have this feature

no idea since i've not used the p800 (or the p800!)

There must be SDK but I have no idea - did you try the kyocera site? I don't understand what Sony has to do with this smartphone... Just write any app for Palm OS and it will run on this device.

Good then we agree on that important point. There is a difference between illegal and unethical/immoral. I doubt discussing it is illegal but it would certainly violate the terms of service of any operator and they would reserve the right to cancel your account if they found out your identity. Why don't they simply offer this as a feature to users who need it? There is obviously more to it than the most trivial interpretation. I can understand doing it in GSM where you can buy the handsets independently but how will you clone in CDMA with a legally obtained mobile? It may be but that does not mean it can't happen!Since when did human beings start behaving in a totally rational manner? That's actually funny! We ALREADY have a 'conviction in' what we are doing! Hence the decision to stop the discussion ... Nope, because the second phone is not 'pretending' to have a different number. On the other hand, a better analogy would be setting up another land line in another house that fools the switch into thinking that its your home phone. Ask your local phone company if they would object to that ... At the end of the day, unauthorised exploiting of loopholes (which is what hacking usually is) does not justify the means. There was an excellent show on Nat Geo a few nights ago called Hackers. It interviewed many current and 'former' hackers who had been to court and even jail and back. The most interesting comments were (this is from memory not verbatim): 'Just because you didn't lock your house or car does not give me the right to go in and start exploring around. Even if you lock it, the lock might be easily picked and just because I did not steal or damage anything does not make it legal/moral or acceptable. We did it because it was fun and exciting and we were good at it - not out any sense of protest/moral outrage/social-political injustice and to imply otherwise is simply fooling yourself into justifying unacceptable actions.' Its amazing what a different perpective some court time can bring! This is a very old argument and is still just as wrong now as it was then. The PRIMARY purpose of MS games is not to train hijackers. The primary purpose of a KITCHEN knife is not to kill others. The primary purpose of a car is NOT to run people over (yet it happens every hour). The primary purpose of kerosine is not to set a daughter-in-law on fire (should we ban that also?). What is the PRIMARY purpose of cloning? Its to defeat the existing checks and balances to get additional services which were never authorised in the first place. If you got the operator's permission to clone, it would be totally fine. Just my thoughts on the matter ...

I thought we fought the british for our political and economic freedom! we have censorship in most other mediums anyways (TV, movie, print) and they are much greater barriers to free speech than one website on one company's products. unless there is a way to distinguish between posts that do not cause anyone any financial loss (reactivating stolen mobiles, etc), and i don't think there is, its smart to limit our potential liability by not allowing them and avoiding the headaches its very important to remember that this is a FREE forum - you get what you pay for. why should the owners/creators have to deal with any potential problems down the road if they don't want to? anyone is FREE to create their own sites to discuss all kinds of activites (illegal or simply unethical) an understandable and rational decision has been made and i for one fully support it

I still think its better that employees come to this forum as guests/anon rather than not at all ... whatever they are comfortable with since there is no way to force them in any case

http://www.relianceinfo.com/Infocomm/html/...reers_home.html i'm assuming you've already looked here ...

Why hold back? Why don't you tell us what you REALLY think?!

IMHO, this is an open forum for all past, present and future users of RIM. If they happen to be employees, there is no way to prevent them from browsing/reading the posts unless we start blocking from known IP which is easily circumvented by logging in from home... As long as people are not doing anything illegal, we have nothing to hide.
