My old Nokia 6600 was having the software problem of freezing. I almost did a street fight with Nokia Customer Care peole before getting a replacement after 2 months! They simply kept my phone for 2 months without doing anything. I am really frustrated with Nokia phones. My SE Z600 even after abusive uses for the past two years still not cracking; not even a software bug. I think Nokia is nothing but Microsoft for software. Coming out with buggy products (I also have N90 with me which is having constent software problems) , make customers to pay and trying the beta with customers .

Thanks. I have done the same and also reported it to Nokia Customer Care as well. I do not need replacement but I definitely can not keep that breaking/cracking hinge. Once the hinge completely cracks this phone will stop folding and will be hanging like a banana. This crack is developing on both sides of the hinge. They are categorizing it as physical damage though in reality the phone is simply not withstanding the friction while rotating the panels.

One India / One Nation / One Rupee Plans by various operators
Ramchi replied to kcvvenkit's topic in The Lounge
This India One may not be such an attractive plan for masses. It is just preempting TRAI/Government from imposing uniform call rates across all plans. By limiting this option only for high-end customers they closed the door for Uniform call rates for normal users. -

The problem with this tarrif is they are asking you to pay Rs 1100 permonth [or pay Rs 500 as plan charge] to avail this One India plan. I am not sure whether is it viable for many people to pay such a large sum every month. -
Amit, You may be correct on my confusion part but I saw some discussions were going on related to this topic under this thread. May be I was wrong. Infact when I was searching this forum for my question I have ended up in this thread. I really doubt if Nokia would have locked this feature (on its own) because this feature is available for GSM models.

Anti-consumer Monopoly Of Bsnl And Mtnl Over Toll-free & Special-access Phone Numbers
Ramchi replied to abhay's topic in The Lounge
BSNL/MTNL must be dismantled they must sit and watch Indian telecom growing till such time they can **** their thumps; Not a single guy in BSNL or Telecom area (except may be Maran) knows nothing about what is going in the world. These guys simply sit and expect customers to do them lots of favor inturn these guys will abuse customers. -
Sorry if this is already discussed! I have Nokia 6255 but I am unable to send SMS messages thru Nokia PC Suite. Whether this is a common issue or is it anything to do with my software installation or settings? But with the same PC Suite software I am able to send SMS message for my other Nokia phones(GSM though)! I do suspect (usual) Reliance dirty hand in chopping features from Nokia phones. I need confirmation on this..

One India / One Nation / One Rupee Plans by various operators
Ramchi replied to kcvvenkit's topic in The Lounge
Harshad, This offer will be definitely extended to all circles sooner than later. Good thing about this offer is you can carry over the balance under different plan and your existing balance automatically be eligible for this offer as well when you recharge with Rs 1111. Along with lifetime plans you can use this plan based on your need for that particular month. This offer will be great for those who makes extensive STD calls out side their state or circles and do not make that much local calls. -

STD Rs 1.5 PM may be available in some areas (like Maha/Goa region) but that need not be the case across the country. Looks like there is a scope for consolidation of STD tarrifs and people may wait for some more time before all operators joins this battle. -

INDIA ONE!! Now Call anyone, anywhere across INDIA at just Re1/Min. Recharge with Rs1111 and get Rs750 regTT and 1111 local SMS FREE. Validity 30 days. Call 456 I checked with Airtel Prepaid Customer Service. It looks like Roaming Charges remain same [Rs 3.50 PM beyond 500 KM for incoming and outgoing]. Looks like a great offer for me. This could be a potential replacement of my existing Reliance Connection Joy499!!! Plus I get GPRS for Rs 250 as Prepaid in Airtel. Do we need to wait for some more offers like this or is this the right time for going for this offer? -

Those who are in Pune/Maharashtra/Goa region, take a snap shot of this, print this with its URL and take it to local Airtel showroom. Airtel customer care in certain regions indulge in fradulant methods where they don't do that in Kerala and W Bengal (where communists are there). In Tamil Nadu Airtel/Hutch indulge in organized looting like mafia. Customer care people literally abuse you and it is like 'Damn Customer, Don't Care' department. Normally, I pity people of Tamil Nadu because they never make an organized effort to keep this leeched out of the state unlike other states. These guys will not inform anything over customer care (mostly dump-school drop-outs; having no clue on what is going on). They did that to me 2 years back when TRAI suddenly announced ADC charges. DCDC did not provide any information though I was actively pursuing it with them. Finally the bill came with heavy beating. I refused to pay the extra bill amount is a different story. -
The real problem is crude Marwari style of business functions like Tata, Godrej etc...where you keep on showing the same product for centuries and fool the customers that they are greatest in the world. All Reliance has to do is focus on its networks and leave the phone manufacturing to its Nokia, Sony Ericsson etc...instead of working against Phone manufacturers by stripping its features so that Reliance/Tata users are not getting any benefits. Reliance business model is not truely corporate though they may be making billions. It is still a family business and couple of individuals calls the shots. These guys are either busy with Bollywood actresses or court cases etc... Unless you see competition these Reliances/Tatas/Airtels/Hutches will become another prehistoric BSNL corporations owned by some wealthy marwari families from North India.

India will be the last country in the world to have Mobile Broadband services at affordable cost. Either it will be prohibitively high or it never exists. This stupid 1 GB and 3 GB upload/download limits must be barred from tarrif plans. When you are browsing a site how is it possible for you to make sure that the size of the content is limited?

Typical Airtel marketing strategy (Hutch also follows the same in Chennai); make attractive and unbelievable offers only for a month or so later get back to heavy call rates. These may be promotional and do not get deceived by the rates. Airtel never keeps its rates stable. -
I know, thats why I normally change the contract and then only sign it! I will keep a copy of it. I recommand everyone to read and alter the contract with your pen before signing it. You must demand that with your customer representatives. If they do not agree with your terms then reject that offer.

Whatever decision TRAI is coming up with it must ask providers to give the money back to the customer if this Lifetime option is not feasible or not allowed by the regulatory authorities. If providers do not return the money back to the customers then it amounts to organized looting of Rs 1000 from everyone.

It is better if BSNL loses lots of revenue for good! It did nothing to improve the plight of telecom customers other than their bueracratic bull$hits and inefficient services over the past several years. Rural people any way paying higher for their existing mobile connections thru any provider. If they are really concerned about rural people let them open up cheap VoIP facilities by offering cheaper broadband connections to rural areas. One India tarrif is the way to go and our pre-historic, ancient, useless BSNL is getting impacted does not mean every citizen must be deprived of good benefits. -
Spectrum for Customer Base for 3G Rollout in India
Ramchi replied to @ksh@T's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
When this Mobile licenses were initially offered this guy Sukh Ram (all Congress wallas) and some other politicians from North took exorbitant amount of money as bribe (Bharti and Reliance were some of the companies I think) that forced mobile tariffs go sky high when it started. Same people are again occupying the government now. These dinosaurs will not leave any opportunity to improve their Swiss bank account. Spectrum allocation of 3G is an ideal opportunity! These guys come with more numbers across different allies of UPA to share their looting! Noting will come out good with this GoM: All discussions will be done on how to make more money for Sings, Mukarjees [he made sure that defense will make a big issue so that he will be part of the spectrum allocation!] and Chidambaram [he happily loots middle-class money]! Maran was the only person representing middle-class! Unfortunately, he becomes powerless with GoM in force. -
I must concur Shiva on limitations in Handset options under CDMA. I do own Nokia 6255 but there is no way I can use if other than Reliance though different Nokia 6255 works fine with Tata Indicom. To survive CDMA providers must think about long term plans this is one of the reasons why I have said some time back in this forum that CDMA operators are probably against 3G coming out quickly. They may use all kind of tactics to delay this spectrum allotment.

We all know that P Chidambaran is an arrogant bureaucrat (he thinks he is an aristocrat) who hates common man from availing all facilities which he and his family used to enjoy all the time as politicians. His mentality belongs to the era of socialistic jinoistic attitude by denying technology/innovation for common man and makes it a luxury item instead of necessity. Keep poor people as poor [kudos to Narayanamurthy for explicitly stating it] and deprived so that they can make money out of their miseries. With his innovative heavy taxation ideas and screwing-up middle-class attitude, will definitely hinder the growth of Indian economy which will nosedive pretty quickly than we all anticipate. Already, India had gone thru the 50 miserable years of denying everything to all except few who holds ministerial or party positions. Terrorists are unnecessarily hitting soft-targets like professors and poor families when big wolves like these are spared; http://autofeed.msn.co.in/pandorav3/output...f1a6d427a2.aspx No more cuts in telecom fees Source: Business Standard. Image Source: DGL.Microsoft New Delhi, January 02:In a move that could cramp the ability of telecom operators to cut tariffs further, the finance ministry has turned down a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India proposal for a cut in the revenue share licence fee and spectrum charges. "The government can't go on reducing the licence fee forever. It is important for us to increase the non-tax revenue and telecom is a growing source," said an official. The government had budgeted for non-tax revenue of Rs 6,500 crore from the telecom sector during the current financial year. A reduction in the licence fee and entry fee for international and domestic long- distance operators from January 1 is expected to result in a Rs 400 crore loss to the exchequer. The finance ministry had sought the department of telecommunications' comments on the long-distance fee cut as North Block was not consulted before the announcement. In its recommendations on "unified licensing" in January 2005, Trai had recommended that the ceiling for the revenue share licence fee be brought down to 6 per cent from the existing 8 per cent. In May 2005, Trai proposed that the ceiling on annual spectrum charges be reduced to 4 per cent of the adjusted gross revenue from the existing 6 per cent. The regulator had made a case for imposing licence fees and spectrum charges only for the universal service obligation and to cover administrative costs. When contacted, a senior Trai official said, "India has very heavy taxation structure and reducing levies is essential to lower the cost to the customer, to universalise telecom services in real terms and increase the penetration in new markets, particularly rural areas." The finance ministry's reluctance to reduce the licence and spectrum fee would mean that Indian operators will continue to pay between 17 per cent and 26 per cent of their revenues as levies and taxes to the government, as against 5 per cent paid by operators in other countries in the sub-continent and China. Telecom operators have projected that the government's licence fee and service tax revenue from the sector will grow 30 per cent to Rs 8,542 crore during the next fiscal, even if the licence fee is cut by 1 percentage point to 7 per cent. In a pre-Budget presentation, the operators added that the Centre's revenue would rise to Rs 8,905 crore in the next fiscal from Rs 6,616 crore projected for 2005-06 if the licence fee was cut to 5 per cent.

TRAI is an useless body. After everyone has shelled out Rs 1 K from their pockets now these guys are slowly appearing one after the other[PC with tariff hitting measures]. These guys have no shame left. Will operators return the money back to the customers if TRAI does not approve this plan? What a day-light cheating. This is what we called as Organized cheating by the government.

Nokia N series are WCDMA. E Series have not hit the market yet. All existing 3G phones in India are WCDMA and only I have seen one SE Z800i phone using UMTS mode. Regarding old mobile phones getting dumped may be true but not true for new models such as Nokia 6255 because these models never existed before in US markets. Also, companies like Reliance/Tata Indicom instead of focusing on improving their network unnecessarily manhandling instruments and stripping its features.
-
Again big confusion! When they say 3G, whether it means UMTS(HSDPA) or WCDMA? After reading the edited post the confusion is increasing. WCDMA is said to be GSM friendly network which means existing CDMA networks may find it difficult to implement it. Does this mean existing CDMA networks will be upgraded to UMTS mode? THe most important question, there are many 3G phones in the market, whether these phones can be operated in both these network simultaneously? Which one is good between UMTS & WCDMA ?

BSNL slashes fixed line rental December 30, 2005 17:26 IST Taking the ongoing tariff war from mobile to fixed lines, state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd on Friday announced up to 28 per cent cut in the tariffs for fixed line telecom services by reducing the monthly rentals. "The subscriber will be saving up to 28 per cent in the effective monthly bills," BSNL CMD A K Sinha told reporters. Under the scheme, BSNL has cut the monthly rental to Rs 180 from the existing Rs 250 in urban areas and Rs 210 in rural areas. With the reduction of rental charges, BSNL revenues would be hit by up to Rs 600 crore (Rs 6 billion) annually. BSNL also joined the tariff war with mobile operators and launched a pre-paid card with lifetime validity for Rs 949 which includes preloaded talk time of Rs 99. The local call rates under pre-paid card would be Rs 1.60 per minute within BSNL network and Rs 2 to other networks. For STD calls, the call rates would be Rs 2.40 within BSNL and Rs 3 to other networks, Sinha said. The new scheme comes into effect from January 1. BSNL is impossible with their stone aged Landline phones they are talking about reducing the monthly rental! Previously every year these guys used to increase the rental and decrease the free calls; with more competition they are working their @$$ out.

Is it not true that CDMA and its successors are the real future since they support Voice + Data + video? Is not again true that GSM may be strong in Voice but lags behind in Data/Video streamings?
