Hi, I just bought 2 phones, both of which are LG RD2340.. I could not find the data cable anywhere in anyshop and one of the shops told me that this particular phone cannot be used to connect to the internet. he showed me a list of phones that support and does not support internet but the one that says it does not support was RD2330 i think but he said both phones are similar and neither of them support the internet.. Can someone shed some light on this? I hope I did not end up buying 2 phones which'll be practically useless to me. <TOPIC MERGED!>

Damn. So I can no longer get a Sierra Wireless? I was planning to buy it.
-
Maybe somebody from another city could call up to confirm this? I would really like to get myself a Sierra Wireless.
-
Called up reliance and they said they will be introducing an LG card soon.. And the Sierra Wireless won't be available any longer Damn, I hate LG

Price is not the same everywhere.

What causes this dormancy problem? Is it due to the phone or a problem with their network? Does this problem exist with Datacards?

Yeah thats what I thought. I don't know anything about EDGE, I was was wondering if those speeds are possible. So far the posts I've seen here about airtel was their GPRS plan. Is this different? 280Kbps sounds good. Reliance is offering 144Kbps.

Check for the possibility for any kind of spyware that maybe downloading/uploading something or even some kind of virus. Loss / Erroneous Packets could also be a possibility. A very good software to use is TCPview (from www.sysinternals.com) which will show you a list of active connections). Look for anything suspicious here. Its almost same as Netstat but this is windows version.

Evdo Technology Which Gives Upto 2.4mbps Connection
TCP/IP replied to city02's topic in Reliance Communications
Well it is my understanding that EvDo does not require upgrade of hardware but employing Wimax requires addition of towers, right? If that is the case then it should take longer for Wimax. I'm in kerala. -
How long does it take to recieve it? I will be ordering mine sometime next week (Sierra Wireless)

Evdo Technology Which Gives Upto 2.4mbps Connection
TCP/IP replied to city02's topic in Reliance Communications
I've been trying to decide whether to go for the present available Sierra Wireless Card or wait for the new ones after EvDO is launched. I guess the latter seems to be a very longer wait. It seems like the launch dates will get pushed furthur away. -
Is that what you plan to tell your ISP if a complaint arise or just for your own satisfaction? Your ISP can determine the type of connection from their logs.

Any information available about the approximate launch date for EvDO? -
Because you didn't get caught YET doesn't mean you won't at some point or the other. Repeated offenses CAN land you in trouble although not likely. A proxy gives a false sense of security. True that it does mask your IP in some sort of ways but the ISP can still find out what you are doing. The best way is to use a VPN. There are some VPN providers that will allow the use of P2P Networks.

Spectrum for Customer Base for 3G Rollout in India
TCP/IP replied to @ksh@T's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Okay. December isn't so far away from now. So, it is not necessary for 1900 band to provide EvDo then? Or is 2Ghz better? -
9000 is all I pay? There won't be a telephone bill for the dialup? Not sure how this works. It looks like the 9000 are the ISP charges. The telephone bills extra. So I don't see how it would make a saving since I usually use it the whole night so my dialup hours do not run out so quickly. In 6 months I would have spent 3000 ~ 4000 on dialup renewals.

Speed Booster That Could Increase Rconnect Speeds
TCP/IP replied to TCP/IP's topic in General Technical Discussion
Only 700? If it is one of those boosters that you put over your battery, those don't work. I have no idea how these kind of boosters are meant to work though. This particular booster is quite expensive but should do its work. I haven't got any reviews on it though but looking. It might be a good idea for me to buy one though if it really works. The only thing that was helding me back was because of the poor reception that I was getting due to which I may possibly get a very inferior data transfer rate. -
Yeah. It was originally shipped from the US to Bangalore by FedEx. I couldn't ship it directly here since FedEx does not have service in my area. After clearing it from the customs in bangalore, the agent said they can reship it by Pafex who are already partnered with FedEx so that seemed the most appropriate choice. I still don't understand though why most companies do not ship electronics. That sounds a bit ridiculous.

Speed Booster That Could Increase Rconnect Speeds
TCP/IP replied to TCP/IP's topic in General Technical Discussion
Yeah. I guess I should rephrase. What I meant by increase of Rconnect speeds was not to get beyond 144 which is impossible. I meant to prevent decrease of speed as a result of weak signal strengths. In my area, the signal is sometimes so weak that I can't even send an SMS without having to try numerous times. -
In response to Renegage's question: After going through this forum for some time, the speeds that Rconnect user's get are all different so it can't exactly be compared to the dialup offered by BSNL although "technically", RConnect is obviously faster as they say they offer 144Kbps speeds. Personally I have been using BSNL dialup from the past 4 months and always get a constant download speed of 3.5 ~ 4.5KBps but upload speeds vary. While uploading anything, my download speeds drop quite extensively that it can be compared to almost no download activity. Data Transfer on BSNL: I recieve 10 to 16MB per hour ALL THE TIME (Download only). I haven't bothered to check uploads. These speeds seem to be excellent for a normal 56K dialup. My dialup connection is usually established at 46Kbps to 48Kbps.. Never more than that. But even then these download speeds I get and is CONSTANT. The only problem is the phone bills, I get about Rs 5000 to 6000 per month because of the heavy usage. More than 10 hours a day average. If I had broadband connections available here, I would have defenitely opted for that. My area also recieves poor cellular reception so I'm not sure how bad (or good) Rconnect might work. But I guess I could make use of a booster to increase cellular reception. Based on the expenses I currently occur because of dialup, I think it might be worthwhile to experiment with Rconnect since its pretty cheap and then try the booster.

Are the chats server side or peer 2 peer? Yahoo uses Peer 2 Peer and not always a good idea since anyone from chatrooms can get your IP address easily. I was under the impression that IP addresses can be found out only by those on your contact list but isn't true. Infact from the Yahoo Chat Rooms, ther users can view your IP. Probably using Ethereal or something.

I'm trying to achieve something but I don't know if it is possible but it seems plausible. When receiving emails using an email client, it shows the time of the email recieved based on the Time Zone of the email server. Is there something that can be done (possibly with an add-on for the email client) that will let you convert the server time zone to local time zone? Perhaps by configuring the difference in the timezone between server and PC so that it displays accordingly? This would be very useful <TOPIC MOVED!>
