Hi, Yes , you can configure any wireless router with the MTNL DSL model. DSL logins can be done in 2 ways: 1. Login info stored on your PC (using a 'dialer') In this case, the wireless router config page has a screen where you can set up the login details. 2. Login info stored on the DSL modem In this setup, the login info is stored on the DSL modem and no config is required on the wireless router. This setup is done on the modem config page. In the wireless router config page, you have to set "No login required" - or similar based on the router. MTNL DSL modems conform to point no. 2. So no configuration is required on the wireless router. You just plug in the router to the modem and you should be good to go. Of course, the Wi-Fi configuration would still have to be done on the wireless router config page. I can vouch for all this information since this is the setup I am using currently at home. A UTStarcom DSL modem (from MTNL) with a Netgear 802.11b wireless router. Though, if you ask the MTNL technician who comes home to setup up the connection, he will act smart and tell you that it cannot be done. And this happened to me before MTNL introduced the WLAN plan. I can send you screen shots of all this once I get home. please let me know if you need them. P.S. A good wireless router will cost you Rs. 4000. Would suggest buying outright instead of renting from MTNL. The effort is just not worth it. Go to the exchange, given an application, follow up, bribe, wait at home/office for the technician to show up... You get the point.

Would strongly recommend the Nokia E series. The E61/62 are pretty good for what you need. And all these are sub 20k handsets. I just got a E50 for my dad. All he needed was a good screen and a large capacity for his phone book. But E61 can run a lot of applications. My friend has one and the screen is amazing. It supports 16 million colors. I played Doom on the phone - supports Skype too. If you check discussion forums on these phones, one recurring problem is the rebooting of the phone. But I guess new editions of firmware can fix that.

Folks, Razr V3i is being launched on Reliance. Handset testing is currently on. I am not sure of the price right now. Though, I feel it cannot be anything less than 9000.

Run Windows On Reliance Phone ! Reliance Mobile Pocket PC 6700
rits76 replied to Arun's topic in HTC
Hi, Have had a chance to use (test) this phone on the Reliance network. Some salient features: 1. Good sturdy keyboard. Keys are big and feedback is good. But the backlight is not that great. So is a little difficult to type in the dark (especially the shift keys - the value you get on a key when shift is pressed.) I think would not be an issue if you use it regularly. 2. Touchscreen response is average. Not bad but not great either. I am not sure if that can improve by tweaking some settings. 3. The screen becomes vertical or horizontal automatically based on whether the keypad is out or not. Happens pretty quickly. You can do it manually too using an icon on the screen. 4. Battery life is decent. had heavy usage for a whole day. At the end of the day, had 30% left over. Usage included IE, RConnect, Word, Powerpoint, etc. 5. Should not have included the camera. Pretty crappy. And now I think people are over the camera phase anyway. 6. Thickness could have been reduced by half a centimeter (is it because of the useless camera). This is definitely not a shirt pocket phone - very risky to keep it there. 7.Not very heavy. Actually it is deceptively light for the size of the phone. 8. One thing I hate about this IE version is that it has limited JavaScript support. So a lot of websites cannot be displayed. Especially ones like Air Deccan which rely on JavaScript for basic functionality. 9. I have not used too many PDA phones before so I dont have a point of comparison here. I prefer it over the Treo because holding the phone while typing is much better here. 10. There is an unnecessary antenna. I am sure they could have done without it. Makes the thing a little out of shape to fit into a pocket. 10. One last point: I think not too many people will buy it because most people feel hesitant to pay so much for a brand like UTStarcom. Most people do not realise that the hardware is made by the same 3-4 companies and the software in Windows so that is standard too. But it is the same reason why people prefer a Mercedes or BMW to an Audi. Same class but different brand value. -
I totally agree. In Mumbai, they are apparently the only ones "allowed" to repair Nokia CDMA phones. A few Nokia service centers accept CDMA phones - but they clearly tell us that the phone will be sent to the Parel office of BrightPoint. I have tried contacting them on the phone and email - no one answers the phone and emails I sent bounced back (I dont remember the exact email id I used.) As much as I love Nokia, I think their CDMA phones are an embarrassment. I agree that Reliance locks a lot of features - but Nokia doesnt really provide much to begin with. I have a Nokia 6255 lying useless. I dropped it once and some component that connects the mic to the PCB got cracked. Even the guys at BrightPoint could not repair it because that part is unavailable. I can use a hands-free kit to talk but that is not a realistic option all the time. So now I have switched back to my old and trusted LG2030.

Well, Google is responsible for the content put up on Orkut. Since they own the site. What I find a little surprising is that the court is getting into something that it can do nothing about. What is the worst it can do? Ask all ISPs in India to block Orkut.com. That would amount to public censorship. (This is different from the blog sites that were blocked - because here the court would have to give a public order - there we still dont know what the orders really were). I think we should all protest on Orkut itself but leave it at that. Everyone has a right to free speech - we can choose not to listen to it. Think about what Bal Thackeray says about certain communities in India - we still let him be. Why are the courts not doing anything about that?
