bangalore, dishnet dsl (now tata indicom) 512 kbps, 875 per month , 1.75 per mb, (only crappy!!! 500 mb per month limit) actually with tax and all works out to 1250 permonth. spped is excellent, more than 64 KBps when downloading from everal servers. biling is generally correct always. I just wish they had a more realistic download limit. this is my biggest pain.

R-connect Dormancy/disconnection: Solved With Ping
dapoedbyreliance replied to Utsav's topic in Data services
hi utsav About this dormancy problem, ping doesn't work in all cases. In my case the phone would go dormant, while there was a continuos ping running. Lots of people have suggested this ping method. Its true that for people who use rconnect wothout any problems, the ping method reduces latency. But for me the problem was always something else, the rconnect would just sit in dormancy no matter what the PC was doing, whether it was loading pages, pinging, downloading or whatever else. As someone posted in another thread, from which you have linked to this one, the type of pc does make a difference maybe because of some bug in the USB implementation. In particular, people have posted elsewhere that the Nforce motherboard has this dormancy problem which is not solved by pinging. Anyway i have no way to verify this, and the problem maybe also because of Reliance. They of course have no answer as to why this happens. No surprise there, they know cr-ap sh-it. -
Guys how do you feel about reliance. Let out your unbiased opinions here.

Do any of you people think it is feasable to have a community wifi lan across bangalore city? I dont know enough about networking but such an idea could have many uses--- 1. file sharing 2. other information exchange 3. internet connectivity thru one point with everybody pitching in for the costs 4. other uses--- maybe you can help me find more? Wifi hardware is not very expensive i guess. what would be the range of such a wifi device? its possible with a usb wifi dongle or wifi card. Also so many new motherboards, pdas and notebooks come with wifi these days. What do you guys think?

the best and most feature rich email is without doubt fastmail.fm. none of the other providers are even close to that- try it out. Long back when other providers were still at 2-5 mb fastmail was already giving 10 mb free. Google lack lots and lots of features. I dont think its so good to use after using it for some time, i still go back to fastmail every time.

Check that the baudrate is same for both phone and in your connect script!

well interesting reactions of many people jayant said: I never have any outstanding, i always pay my bill! yes for the past two months i did not pay! but not because i wanted to default, but because I decided not to. why? let me explain....I was a dapo customer- so i could not do much about deficiencies in service from reliance besides complain to them. In the CAF they agreed to provide me with service one of which was Rconnect. unfortunately if you these posts here and here you will see what my experience with reliance has been like. I am still waiting for the priority response which they promised me months back!!!! Just talk hot air and bull****!!! thats what reliance has been for me so far!!!! In my opinion I should take them to court not the other way around.I did email the chairman. After this my phone was promptly disconnected. Although i had no outstanding. The reason was that they supposedly had possesion of my phone, and i had to go to town hall etc etc to prove to them that i still had my phone and my service should be resumed. Why the **** should i do that? I have had better experince with BSNl and MTNL!!!!!! Finally i had to use the influence of my companies telphones manager to get my service reactivated!!! I completely understand this!!! I was in the same category. Thats why i advice all honest customers, (in which i include myself) to take advantage of this golden opportunity and be rid of this reliance mess forever. Reliance Infocom is the wrong name the correct name should be Reliance InfoCON. Its a great idea the reliance service- much better than Tata Indicom which i have also tried - but only if it works for you if you're lucky!!!!!

Today i got rid of my reliance postpaid connection by coverting to prepaid. Will use for validity period of 15 days and then its bye bye reliance for good!!!! Dont feel bad about pending bills cause they deserve it!!!!

can you give the output of the kernel panic message? what do you use to connect? Im not sure if there is a reliance software to connect or have you used some other script???

where is this Hotwire internet available?? What about tata indicom dsl? is it there in Bangalore - the silicon city of india??

Its very simple to configure this for linux!!! this is not required and it is already done when your computer starts. This is the driver for your USB port!!you should do as root: modprobe ftdi_sio I'm assuming that your phone has a USB cable, if its serial then thing are little easier. First you just have to get the "modem initialization string" for your phone. For an LG rd2030 this is "at+cta=30". For your phone find out what it is from the windows, modem advanced settings extra setting dialog box. Now install any LG phone using the reliance tarball as root, no need to connect the phone at this time. now plug in your phone and type tail -f /var/log/messages as root. your should see something like this: this: or this : is what you need, this is where linux has put your phone port!!!to find out which one try : [root@localhost mastercook]# cat /dev/ttyUSB0 cat: /dev/ttyUSB0: Resource temporarily unavailable [root@localhost mastercook]# cat /dev/usb/tts/0 cat: /dev/usb/tts/0: Resource temporarily unavailable [root@localhost mastercook]# In my system both are there and are " temporarily unavailable" because im connected now!! If i was not connected than i would get no output just a blank line waiting for some data. SO you would probably have to do ctrl-C to exit. now do rm /dev/rmodem ln -sf /dev/ttyUSB0 /dev/rmodem " /dev/ttyUSB0 " replace this with whatever the output was from the first command. and now you should be able to connect with rconnect *********** *********** if you cant then tail -f /var/log/messages will show you where you went wrong, (besides buying reliance :-)) If you post the error message here maybe i can help you more. I was even able to get my tata indicom phone working with my suse, mandrake and redhat using the same script just by changing the port and the initialisation script!! regards Kunal

which macos version are you using. you dont need a driver, just the right configuration and rconnect will work fine in OS X onwards

this is the mail i sent to them about my experience. I guess all cdma operators are the same screwed up deal. I was told that "sir, please wait for a few months and internet speeds will be really high." Can you believe that? I guess its good bye to tata. atleast theyt dont have the same hard to exit sheme like reliance. MY country is great. Especially the CDMA operators. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Tata Indicom. I have a Tata FWT no 80********. I have a very serious problem with your internet service for which I have subscribed. I had taken this service because you had promised minimum 64 kbps speeds and max 115 kbps. For this kind of service I don’t mind paying 1500 Rs a month. however I have complained Many times about the speed being around 8-20 kbps average and I really don’t want to pay you any money for this kind of speed. certainly not 1500 Rs every month. Kindly inform me if you can solve my problem. If you cant then I will return the phone to you, as I am used to service providers who deliver what I pay for and not just for talk. I am thoroughly disappointed that a company with the Tata name has not bothered to respond to or to solve my problem. Awaiting a reply from you this time. Regards Kunal Kumar
