MTS Gets Licence For NLD
Karthik R replied to ravi_patent's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
With NLD licence, MTS should be looking at enterprise business and making available competitive STD tariffs to subscribers. They cant get any substantial roaming revenue as they are in the CDMA business and their counterparts - Tata and Reliance already have an pan India network in place. Note that the NLD licence does not grant them any spectrum. -
Will MNP Help "The Big 3 Cartel"?
Karthik R replied to ravi_patent's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
Rudradeep, the reason behind BSNL stopping the unlimited 3G is obviously the misuse of the very unlimited nature by many consumers. It is reported/claimed that downloads of many BSNL users exceeded over 900 GB in a month, which choked the network, causing drop in quality. Anyway they should have set a higher cap, say 75Gb instead of 15Gb. We are shelling out Rs.750 p.m. mister! -
Will MNP Help "The Big 3 Cartel"?

The mobile number portability seems to have hit hard the state owned telecom players. While Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) lost 131,581 customers Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd's (MTNL) subscriber base declined by 5,869 customers after number portability ( MNP) service was introduced. Seeking to arrest the erosion in their customer base following introduction of number portability, BSNL and MTNL have come up with measures to address customer grievances and improve service quality, the Lok Sabha was informed. "The operators have also introduced competitive tariff plans apart from giving additional incentives to distributors and retailers," Minister of State for Communications and Information & Technology Sachin Pilot said in a written reply. As many as 223,824 customers ported out of BSNL while only 92,243 ported into its network, which means a decline of 131, 581 users, while MTNL's subscriber base declined by 5,869 customers after number portability service was introduced. The companies will also conduct close monitoring of network operation through information technology-enabled systems, which include introduction of CDR (call data records)-based billing, commercial and fault repair service and work order management system. - TOI -
Jargon Buster : Mobile Phone Terminology

Resistive vs Capacitive touch screens If you are planning to buy a new smartphone, there is a good chance that you will ultimately land upon a touchscreen device. Most of the the mobile phones these days come with superior technology and a normal phone buyers generally gets confused when he tries to decode the tech specs associated with a handset. And when it comes to touchscreen devices, the oft heard jargon is capacitive or resistive touchscreen phones. This post will help you understand the basic difference between these two types of touchscreen phones. The most important of these is that there are actually two types of touchscreen predominantly used in phones – resistive and capacitive How they work Resistive touchscreens are pressure-sensitive. They work by detecting the amount of force which is applied to the screen. It doesn’t matter how you apply the force: you could press it with your finger, use a stylus or prod it with a stick. Generally you will have to apply a fair bit of pressure to a resistive touchscreen for it to register a response – most people use the tip of their fingernail or occasionally a stylus. The resistive touchscreen itself is made up of several layers, the topmost of which flexes under your finger or stylus, and is pushed back onto a layer behind it. This effectively completes a circuit, telling the phone which part of the screen is being pressed. As the oldest and simplest touchscreen technology, resistive touchscreens are cheap to produce. For this reason, they tend to be found in older or cheaper phones. Capacitive touchscreens are sensitive to your body’s electric field. Capacitive is now the dominant technology for new high-end smartphones such as the Apple iPhone, HTC Desire and Blackberry Torch. Because capacitive touchscreens simply “sense” the existence of your finger electrically rather than requiring you to push down on the touchscreen they tend to be much more responsive. For example, it’s possible to simply glide your finger along the screen (e.g. unlock gesture) – something which is difficult with a resistive touchscreen. Multi-touch screens are generally built on capacitive technology. Disadvantages of capacitive touchscreen technology is that you cannot used it with gloves on (your body’s electric field cannot pass through the glove) and it cannot be used with a traditional mechanical stylus. However special capacitive touchscreen styluses are available. Capacitive touchscreen technology also tends to be more expensive and is hence seen mainly in higher-end smartphones. As resistive and capacitive aren't necessarily the words you will hear out on the high street, I am listing here some of the popular phones and exactly which sort of touchscreen they use. HTC Hero Capacitive HTC Magic Capacitive Motorola Milestone Capacitive Apple iPhone 3G Capacitive Nokia N97 Resistive HTC HD2 Capacitive Samsung Epic 4G Capacitive Samsung Corby Resistive LG Cookie Resistive If you didn’t understand the technical aspects no problem, if your use is limited to just the user-experience then undoubtedly a capacitive on is better any day than a resistive one Sourced info from pcpro, neodragon -

Aircel will be launching 3G services in the remaining circles, where it has 3G licence, by mid-March. Dongles coming soon. I was hoping for a bold move from their side like the presently non-existent Unlimited gprs packs without FUP. This 3G offering is disappointing. -
Greatest bhai you struck a chord with me Rock and SCSA were my favs. By the way guys, good part of the WWE is fake - they get their story line scripted months back, decide who is going to play the bad guy and face the wrath of the good guy, how long the match is going to last, etc. You can get a clear picture of what is going on, on and off screen from the book 'Sex, lies and headlock'.

Nokia to push out cheap Windows Phone handsets quickly Speaking during a meeting with Finnish business journalists, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said the handset maker would produce inexpensive Windows Phone handsets quickly. The ability to produce smartphones with a very low price point was reportedly on of the key factors in selecting Microsoft as a partner for the future of the Finnish company’s mobile platform. “We have become convinced that we can do that very quickly,” Elop said during this meeting on Friday. The final agreement between Microsoft and Nokia should be inked within the next few months and Windows Phone handsets are expected by the end of the year. The initial response to Nokia’s decision to drop Symbian and adopt Microsoft Windows Phone has been mixed. The Finnish company’s stock dropped more than 20% and many Finnish employees unhappy with the decision took a voluntary day off when the deal was announced earlier this month. A group of stockholders claimed to be staging a coup to unseat Elop, but this Nokia Plan B initiative was later revealed to be a hoax. Nokia CEO Elop also sold all his Microsoft shares on February 17th and purchased 150,000 shares of Nokia. The CEO came under fire earlier this month when it was discovered he held a large amount of Microsoft stock and none in his own company. The battered CEO claimed regulations prevented him from selling this stock during the negotiation period between the two high-profile companies. Now that the deal is public and close to being inked, the former Microsoft executive sold his interest in Microsoft and rightly invested it in Nokia. - intomobile According to The Guardian, Nokia wont be showing off the fruits of its labour until Windows Phone 7 has received its second major update, not expected to land until October. The update, codenamed “Mango”, is expected to launch as Windows Phone 7.5, which explains why Elop has remained tight lipped about releasing “Windows Phone 7″ handsets.
