  1. Raccoon bhai, it is not fair to blame Nokia alone for making high SAR phones. In fact the ones that score the worst are from Motorola (Droid, Defy, Bravo...) and even iPhone 3G
  2. Guys, looks like it is freely activated on all Reliance nos. as a introductory offer! Maybe giving the customers a taste of the new VAS, which may turn sour at the end of the month when they auto renew the pack
  3. Samsung Breeze B209

Yep, looks like it is available exclusively with Reliance. Can compare with entry level phone Samsung Hero 189 of TI. Will be priced around Rs.1000.
  4. V3 Launches Entry EVDO Handset @ 3999

Evdo Rev.A device @ 4K seems a good deal. Also they are offering 30 days replacement warranty (please go through the finer print, if any) so no harm in trying out. Is this an Open Market Handset (OMH) or launched exclusively with Tata Indicom?
  5. Kamal bhai, should I be feeling lucky that Reliance didnt win 3G spectrum in my circle? I have gone through the same when on request, hello tune was activated on my number and the operator welcomed the incoming calls abruptly with, ''Press * to copy this song. Charges 15Rs apply.''

500 mins per month for 2 years?
  7. Billing after termination and forced to pay

Justice delayed but finally delivered. This should serve as a motivation to customers who are fraudulently charged, to contend it and pursue the matter without losing heart.
  8. The Department of Telecom has told operators to implement mobile number portability (MNP) properly or face penalty. The DoT notice was sent on Monday after it received a number of complaints from subscribers who were unable to port their numbers. Under the MNP system, when a subscriber sends in a request for porting to number 1900, operators are required to reply with a unique porting code (UPC). This code is required by the subscriber to complete the porting to the operator of his choice. “Some operators have been found to deny the UPC to subscribers and are sending messages like ‘sorry customers, please try after some time' or ‘dear customers, please wait for some time'. Thereafter, operators try to contact the customer for retention. This is not allowed. We have told the operators that UPC generation is not to be hampered under any circumstances,” said a top DoT official. Technical problems “Some operators, after sending the UPC, are rejecting the applications saying that the code is not correct even though that is what had been sent to the customer. This is also not acceptable. The operators are required to follow the conditions laid down by the DoT and TRAI and any instance of violation may lead to penalty.” An industry representative said that there may be initial technical problems in implementing the system but the operators are working towards resolving the issues. “When such a huge initiative is rolled out across the country covering over 700 million subscribers, there is bound to be some start-up problems. By and large, MNP is being implemented properly but there could be a few instances of technical glitches. This will be sorted out,” said an industry representative. MNP was first introduced in Haryana on November 25 and in the rest of the country on January 20. In Haryana, over one lakh subscribers have availed themselves of the porting facility. 9. Will MNP Help "The Big 3 Cartel"?

Waiting for the numbers across the country - want to check how TI and MTS fares. And Bsnl may in fact gain a significant chunk of the high ARPU porting users for its unlimited 3G plans @ 700.
  10. Motorola Atrix 4G-The Monster

Glad to see that Moto is actually launching the Atrix shortly, as it had reminded me of a similar product - Palm's Foleo which was much hyped but failed to take off. @ Mufaddal ji Awesome speednet result in sig! Makes our ISPs look like a stone age outcast.

  14. The 3G or third generation mobile network lets you really make the most of your mobile phone with a great range of advanced services. It enhances the services such as multimedia, high speed mobile broadband, internet access with the ability to view video footage on your mobile handset. With a 3G phone and access to the 3G network you can make video calls, watch live TV, access the high speed internet and download heavy files, as well as the usual voice call and messaging services. Frequently Asked questions What is the advantage of 3G over 2G? The significant difference between 2G and 3G networks is the faster data speeds offered by 3G. Other pros include enhanced audio and video streaming, video calling, video-conferencing support, etc. For voice use and text messaging, the differences between a 2G and 3G phone are minimal. My GSM operator did not get a 3G license. What is going on? With no private operator bagging pan-India 3G spectrum, in a circle where a company does not have 3G spectrum, it may strike a roaming pact to ensure that its customers have seamless access to these services. Airtel, Vodafone Essar and Idea Cellular have confirmed discussions on a tie-up. Others are in talks with State cos BSNL/MTNL. Will I have to change my SIM to migrate to 3G? No, you can access 3G services from your existing SIM. On what factors does 3G speed depend? The 3.6 Mbps to 21 Mbps speeds claimed by operators are based on ideal conditions. Practical speed depends on handset used, application, coverage, network traffic and number of users currently using that point of time. What will happen if I am out of 3G coverage area? You will continue to access 2G/2.5G services in areas where 3G coverage is absent. Please ensure that your network setting is on dual mode. Do I need to do any settings on my mobile handset for 3G? Yes. You will have to select 3G/UMTS Dual mode in your handset for network selection. Can I download and upload videos on my mobile? Yes, with 3G you can watch streaming videos and download videos on your mobile handset. You can also send user generated content i.e record video from your mobile and share them with your friends or upload on internet sites from your mobile. Is it necessary for both the parties to have a 3G phone & service to be to make & receive video calls? Yes, it is necessary for both the parties to have a 3G phone with dual camera which supports video calling & both the phones are connected on 3G network. How would I know if my handset is 3G compatible or not? When you are in a 3G network area and if your handset shows 3G on the top of the screen next to the network signal bars means that your phone is 3G compatible & you can use the services. I have taken GPRS pack will they work on 3G network? The operators have separate data packs for 2G and 3G. With the 3G packs you would get higher speeds which you would not be able to enjoy on 2G packs. Keep hearing about HSPA+? HSPA+ (also called Evolved HSPA) is a further evolution of the HSPA network that offers data speeds of up to 21 Mbps. It is sometimes called 3.5G and defined in 3GPP release 7. Edit : Will be adding more info shortly
  15. A Guide Into 3G World

EVDO is the CDMA counterpart of third generation mobile broadband service. It have already been made available by Rel, Tata, Mts and Bsnl.
  16. Will MNP Help "The Big 3 Cartel"?

The 5% subscriber base of postpaid subscribers contributes about 20% of revenues for larger telecom players. That is the prize money the operators are going to battle for - to win the postpaid subscribers.
  17. MNP Retention Offer You Received

These works out to be the cheapest plans I have come across till date, beating the TI's Rs.149 for Local @30p/min and Std, roaming @50p/min. Grab them tight
  18. A Guide Into 3G World

Thanks for the info! Will be updating.
  19. Airtel have said it would launch 3G service in 40 plus cities in 13 telecom circles, where it had won spectrum for 3G services in the auction, by March this year. Complete roll out will only be by next year.
  20. CDMA 2000 1X Advanced, DO Advanced

Though no changes to network infrastructure is necessary to implement SVDO, for the phone to make use of this development, it need to have specified chip inside. Guess what, even the newly launched Verizon iPhone4 does not support SVDO!
  21. Weirdest Mobile Phones Ever

If you ever had the chance to hear someone talking about a shoe phone and you thought this is the most outrageous of them all then you should know that an Australian IT expert doesnt share your opinion. More than that, he spared no efforts in order to make it happen. This is the easiest way for those who tend to lose things to never lose their mobile phone again. Because when you have it attached to your shoe, it is quite difficult to get rid of it. The creator is 32-year-old Paul Garner-Stephen, who came up with a suggestion for a local theatrical production of a TV parody named Get smart, where Maxwell Smart, an agent, used a shoe phone. Therefore, with the help of a shoemaker friend, he brought this device in the spotlight. The shoe phone has the mobile handset inside of one heel, while the Bluetooth headset is fitted in the other. This is a crazy invention, and there is no doubt about it. Imagine that you are on the street and it is raining cats and dogs and you cant wait for the moment you get home. But you are streets away, and your phone starts ringing. You know it might be important, your boss who wants to inform you about a project you must finish by the end of the week. You want to answer, God knows you do, but come one! The cats and dogs are everywhere! You cant, you just cant take your shoe off and answer that inopportune boss of yours! Doesnt he know that you are not available to phone talks when you are on the street? Especially when it is raining like hell
  22. Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Industries had bought 95% stake in Infotel Broadband for Rs 4,800 crore. Infotel Broadband is now a subsidary of Reliance Industries.
  23. Hopefully the charges will come down once competition creeps in and all operators launch full fledged service, until then BSNL all the way
  24. @Kapil K Dev Do one have to pay for the OMH sim from MTS or since it is the MNP kit, are they waiving off the charges?
  25. Please suggest a Phone below Rs.2500 with PC Sync

I am assuming that you are looking for a CDMA handset since your last phone is mentioned as LG RD 5130. Samsung Mpower Muzik 219 meets your requirements but you have to stretch your budget a bit to Rs.2900. It has additional functionality of vga cam, expandable memory and bluetooth.
