  2. Another image going rounds. If word out on the web is to be believed, then Samsung is designing a 10.1-inch Windows 7 tablet dubbed Gloria. Gloria’s got the looks and packs more than she reveals. Although the Samsung Galaxy Tab sold a million copies so far, the tablet market is far from saturated. With other competitors being announced (the BlackBerry PlayBook is just one of them) and other rumored (such as the iPad 2), Samsung should be conscious of the market pulse and is already planning new additions to strengthen its tablet range. In this waters a new rumor is born. Some people believe that the Samsung Gloria is the name of the first tablet from the new series, and word has it the Gloria will run Windows 7 and will feature a 10″ display. There are also mentions of a physical sliding-out QWERTY keyboard, although that doesn’t seem that likely to us as that just doesn’t fit to what a tablet should be all about. An integral part of Microsoft’s UMPC project and production of its very own Samsung Q1 as well as a QWERTY thumb-board flaunting touchscreen device, the Samsung Q1U, Samsung’s Window tablet is not its first offer. Gloria will flash a 10-inch touchscreen with a custom UI layer completely developed in house to stand out in design and styling. Indications of the devices progress from some people at Blogee, show that Samsung is reading the device for its launch in 2011 As such, Samsung intends on making a go of it in early 2011, targeting a March or April release… just in time for the iPad 2 Sourced info from the web.

  6. Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC): What is that? Mandated to inquire into a specific subject, a JPC is constituted either through a motion adopted by one House and concurred by the other, or, through communication between the presiding officers of the two Houses. The members are either elected by the Houses or nominated by the presiding officers. As in the case of other parliamentary committees, they are drawn from different groups. The strength of a JPC may vary. For instance, one JPC comprised 15 members, while two others had 30 members each. The Lok Sabha share is double than that of the Rajya Sabha. What are the powers of a JPC? A JPC can obtain evidence of experts, public bodies, associations, individuals or interested parties suo motu or on requests made by them. If a witness fails to appear before a JPC in response to summons, his conduct constitutes a contempt of the House. The JPC can take oral and written evidence or call for documents in connection with a matter under its consideration. The proceedings of parliamentary committees are confidential, but in the case of the joint committee which went into "Irregularities in Securities and Banking Transactions", the committee decided that considering the widespread public interest in the matter, the chairman should brief the press about deliberations of the committees. Ministers are not generally called by the committees to give evidence. However, in case of the Irregularities in Securities and Banking Transactions probe again, an exception was made, with the JPC, with the permission of the Speaker, seeking information on certain points from ministers and calling Ministers of Finance and Health and Family Welfare. The government may withhold or decline to produce a document if it is considered prejudicial to the safety or interest of State. The Speaker has the final word on any dispute over calling for evidence against a person or production of a document. How many JPCs have been there till date? What have been their findings? Has anyone been convicted by them? There have been only four investigative JPCs so far. The first was instituted to inquire into the Bofors contract on a motion moved by then defence minister K C Pant in the Lok Sabha on August 6, 1987. The Rajya Sabha endorsed it a week later. The committee, headed by B Shankaranand, held 50 sittings and gave its report on April 26, 1988. Opposition parties boycotted the committee on the ground that it was packed with Congress members. The JPC report was tabled in Parliament, but it was rejected by the Opposition. The second investigative JPC, headed by former Union minister and senior Congress leader Ram Niwas Mirdha, was set up to probe Irregularities in Securities and Banking Transactions in the aftermath of the Harshad Mehta scandal. The motion was moved by then minister for parliamentary affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad in the Lok Sabha on August 6, 1992. The Rajya Sabha concurred with it the next day. The recommendations of the JPC were neither accepted in full nor implemented. The third investigative JPC was assigned to probe the market scam. Then parliamentary affairs minister Pramod Mahajan piloted a motion in the Lok Sabha on April 26, 2001, to put it in place. Senior BJP member Lt Gen Prakash Mani Tripathi (retd) was named the chairman. The committee held 105 sittings and gave its report on December 19, 2002. The committee recommended sweeping changes in stock market regulations. However, many of these recommendations were diluted later. The last JPC was set up in August 2003 to look into pesticide residues in soft drinks, fruit juice and other beverages and to set safety standards. The committee, headed by NCP chief Sharad Pawar, held 17 sittings and submitted its report to Parliament on February 4, 2004. The report confirmed that soft drinks did have pesticide residues and recommended stringent norms for drinking water. Why does the Opposition want a JPC? The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament is supposed to conduct a detailed examination of the reports of the Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG), scrutinising the yearly accounts of the Government. Having 15 members of the Lok Sabha and seven members of the Rajya Sabha, the chairmanship of the PAC conventionally goes to a nominee of the main opposition party. The PAC calls upon ministries to explain cases of financial irregularities. The Opposition argument is that the 2G spectrum scam goes far beyond accounting. A JPC can spread its net wider and go into the larger gamut of allocation and look into the role of various players. More, once a JPC gets going, it would help the Opposition keep the heat on the government through consistent reporting of proceedings. The moot point is that PAC chairman Murli Manohar Joshi is already waiting in the wings to go into the CAG report. In case the government accepts the demand for a JPC, in effect, it may mean both a JPC and PAC. Courtesy : News MSN

  13. Anyone can relate to this? Still so even after using Download Manager It is like am used to it, routines that originally took great effort to learn.
  14. I have no intention to change my long standing CDMA root with Tata Indicom Reasons : The best possible tariffs in the market are available to me, the network signal bar in my phone reminds me that I am under full 1x and EVDO strength - a pleasing sight to the eye indeed. My monthly outlay - around Rs.350 which includes Rs.200 for talktime, Rs.55 for 5500 SMS and Rs.94 for 2.5 GB internet pack. Reliance GSM - will be waiting for another 2 months for the network to improve otherwise will port to Uninor who seems to be doing relatively well. Edit Other GSM operators in my sig are staying
  15. @Kanaga Thanks for the update. I was aware of such a move but wasnt sure whether it is implemented
  16. My ISP BSNL provides unlimited download at night from 2am to 8am. So it is not a foreign conspiracy to lose our health but hatched in the dusty board rooms of desi babus For the past many years it had been my programmed routine to wake up like a zombie and download torrents, that is before I found Download Manager. I am a more of an owl or night watchman now and what is worse - I feel tired and sleep during meetings and parties.
  17. With an off-net call termination charge of 0.20p/min how do these telecos plan to break even?

I am using Opera Mini 5.1 on the phone as the default Polaris browser is not easy to navigate. But you will have to use it for playing Youtube videos. To download Opera use the phone’s inbuilt browser to visit the address m.opera.com This phone supports Java. The newly installed apps will be in Menu > Applications > 4.Games and more I have been using a Blackberry before and the transition to this phone have been despairing This phone will never ever be a BB and if you are looking for a business phone please look elsewhere. It scores well in all the areas you mentioned So it is just not me... Quite a number of the videos I converted into mp4 of 320x240 resolution with Total Video Converter appear pixelated. The Youtube videos I streamed and watched online were in passable quality. 3gp? Forget it. The widget serves the purpose well but is in effect just a bookmark to the Polaris browser. In a normal day I make about 1/2 hr of calls, send some odd 100 SMSs and do an hour of chatting/browsing on the phone - The battery lasts easily for two days. I think it is one of the saving graces of the phone. The battery life will also depend upon how you have set your Display Please check with your operator whether your locality is blessed with EVDO. Kindly make an informed decision before buying this phone - I would suggest that you get to the mobile store and actually spend some time with it (But not many permit that, right? ) before buying. I brought this device in the first place because Tata Indicom, my operator, does not accept foreign MEIDs and as I frequently change my mobile, programming will be a hassle. If you are a Reliance user go for any other Android beasts available here.
  20. Yesterday, Google released an updated Android version of YouTube to the Android Market, a major update that continues the unbundling of the app from the Android OS. YouTube 2.1 has been re-written from the groud up to mirror the desktop experience more closely. New to the Android platform is in-page playback, allowing you to read the video description, scope out related videos, or rate videos without having to interrupt playback. A new full-screen UI has also been implemented, which can now be accessed by simply rotating the phone to landscape, and packs better seeking controls and screen taps to pause/play. Comments have made an entry too, with the ability to post a comment as the video is playing like you would on the desktop. Last but not least, your YouTube subscriptions have been brought front and center, displaying new videos right on the home screen of the app if you're signed into your Google or YouTube account. Google looks to be taking the Chrome model of rapid iteration with the Android YouTube app, as 2.1 comes hot on the heals of a first release for the unbundled app just a few weeks ago, implementing their famous mantra: "launch early, iterate often." YouTube 2.1 is unfortunately only available for Android 2.2 and up, coming bundled on upcoming Android 2.3 Gingerbread devices, but Froyo-wielding YouTube fans can get the updated app from the Android Market right now by searching for 'YouTube.' If you need more convincing, Google's made a quick two minute demo of the app running on a Nexus S. Source : here!
  21. Intel has claimed it is making headway pushing its chips into tablet computers and that smartphones using its processors will go on sale late next year. The company is keen to catch up in the mobile market and is hoping chips due to launch next year will invigorate its mobile business, which has struggled to get off the ground amid explosive sales of Apple's iPad tablets and smartphones using Google's Android operating system. "The consumer (tablet) products will roll out over the first half of next year," said chief executive Paul Otellini, adding that manufacturers had agreed to use Intel chips in 35 tablet models, including a few already on the market. Otellini listed brands including Dell, Asus, Lenovo and Toshiba. Intel's Atom chips dominate netbooks, but smartphone and tablet manufacturers have mostly rejected them in favour of more power-efficient chips based on ARM architecture that are made by companies like Qualcomm and Marvell. "Intel is moving in the right strategic direction, but it still has a long way to go," said Hendi Susanto, an analyst at Gabelli & Company. "They're late into the game. There is no clear visibility on what the products look like." Intel's share of the world semiconductor market slipped marginally to 13.8 percent in 2010 from 14.2 percent the year before after sales of netbooks were hurt by weak consumer sentiment, according to market research firm Gartner. Smartphone marathon Otellini called Intel's pursuit of the smartphone market "a marathon, not a sprint," adding that the company's second-generation Medfield chip was being sampled by customers and should ship next year and in 2012. "You will see smartphones from premier branded vendors in the second half of 2011 with Intel silicon inside them," Otellini said. Courtesy : PCpro
  22. Can it be utilised for making off- net calls too? I have over and over again received a SMS from them that that on a recharge of Rs.90 I will be endowed with 250 local minutes valid for 30 days. And on a special of Rs.49 I will be getting 500 local Tata-Tata minutes validity being the same. But the one you mentioned blows them out.
  23. New Handsets Added In Profile Field

Can you add Samsung Mpower txt m369? It is the new OMH kid on the block
  24. Aircel's 3G Buildup

Remember only Aircel provides us with truly UNLIMITED gprs packs @ Rs.14 and Rs.98 with 3 days and 30 days validity respectively. Everyother like Vodafone, Idea and Airtel have a FUP of 2gb while with Docomo it is 6gb. But how many users make use of the 'unlimited' gprs facility needs to be seen as the speeds obtained is just average and suffer from frequent disconnection. Maybe. Maybe they will offer the elusive unlimited 3G on phone likewise!
