Telcos Reject TRAI Proposal to make Tariffs more Transparent
Karthik R replied to Honest's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
It is true that the market is turbulent with operators offering plans that confuse the rational mind of customers. But I guess we dont mind as long as the proportion leads to value addition -
For the technology to work, both parties to the call must use phones and networks that support AMR-WB. That means Tata Docomo alone implementing it wont be of much use in off-net calls

Google's Street View cars ignited a privacy firestorm when the company announced in May that, in addition to snapping photos, the vehicles had also captured and saved Web traffic data from unsecured Wi-Fi networks since 2007 as they drove around. The Street View cars were supposed to only record Wi-Fi network names (SSIDs) and their routers' unique identifying numbers (MAC addresses), but a software glitch caused them to also grab and store data like the addresses of websites being visited, passwords and entire email messages. As a result, incensed individuals have filed civil lawsuits against Google, while regulatory agencies and elected officials in the U.S. and abroad have launched investigations. I want to like Google ! They seem all that we were waiting for, taking microsoft head on and all. But still got an ugly premonition that we, the people are making an all powerful monster.

Bharti, Idea attack CDMA players for inflating customer numbers With up to 90 per cent of their subscriber base active on telecom networks, leading GSM operators Bharti and Idea today attacked CDMA players for 'spreading lies and inflating customers numbers' to demand extra spectrum. They welcomed telecom regulator TRAI's initiative to report active subscriber base, which excludes customers who remain switched-off from telecom networks. "With close to 90 per cent active customers for Bharti and 88 per cent for Idea, we have maintained high reporting standards to serve genuine information needs, rather than spurious propaganda needs. We welcome this new initiative of the TRAI to capture the real active telecom user base in the country," the two firms said in a joint statement. They said that TRAI data has nailed "the canards and lies" spread by a set of telecom players (CDMA), falsely accusing GSM operators of reporting inflated customer numbers. Tata Teleservices (TTSL) and Reliance Communications (RCom) are the two leading CDMA operators and had recently charged that established GSM operators were holding excess spectrum over and above the contractual limit. Refuting the allegations made by CDMA players, Airtel and Idea said that "they are the ones who have inflated their own numbers’ as evidenced in the report of their VLR records establishing a very low active customer base both for their long established CDMA operations and the relatively new GSM operations." The TRAI report exposes the double standards of these operators, they added. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for the first time has reported the Visitor Location Register (VLR) for September, which captures the number of active customers on mobile networks. VLR is a temporary database of the subscribers who have had their mobiles active as recorded by operators' base stations. Each base station in the network is served by exactly one VLR, hence a subscriber cannot be present in more than one VLR at a time. The dual technology players, including Tata Teleservices reported an active user of 44 per cent on its CDMA platform and 46 per cent on the GSM platform. Reliance Communications had an active user of 66 per cent on the GSM technology and 68.26 per cent on CDMA. According to the Trai data, of the 687.71 million mobile subscribers, as of September, 2010, only 482.89 million users were listed as active subscribers in VLR. Recently, operators were asked to submit details on all VLR numbers to the government, since they provide details on active customers at any given point of time, excluding switched off and out of coverage area customers. The decision was taken amid reports that the subscriber numbers reported by the operators were incorrect and did not give a true picture of the number of actual mobile users in the country. Source : mydigitalfc This is a major blow and the findings will have more implications

The screen brightness can be varied on a scale of 5 so it wont be an issue. The ringtone loudness is not explosive but more than audible. The vibration is lower than usual. You cant find fault here, Its 1000 mAh will stand for 1-2 days depending on how you use. The inbuilt browser looks all chic but not up to the mark in usability front. The navigation is not easy and It would need time to get used to. Video player is "passable". Played 3gp and mp4 files well. I thought it would be good for you to carefully inspect will do it in some time.

I have used about 10 Symbian device in all right from Nokia 1100 to E63 - N95 - 5600 - N97. It suites my needs well with stable platform but of late it started feeling obsolete. Lot of .sis and .sisx apps available is definitely a plus. Still using them for my Gsm connection. Have used an O2 XDA II mini and a Hp Ipaq 6515 they are now collector's prized possession and ran on old Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 which you wouldnt want me to rate here! Not a fan of Java and .jar files And havent impressed anyone for my first Android device. Have used my friend's Galaxy and the OS felt good.

Karthik R replied to rajanmehta's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
I would be one pissed off customer if one fine morning Tata Indicom shifts all its voice users to its GSM wing, TD. If it happens then friends, I will shift to MTS who seems to be serious and focused on the CDMA. -

Advantages of CDMA are: - It can accommodate more users per MHz of bandwidth than any other technology. - It has no built-in limit to the number of concurrent users. - CDMA is able to produce a reasonable call with lower signal (cell phone reception) levels. - Its variable rate voice coders reduce the rate being transmitted when speaker is not talking, which allows the channel to be packed more efficiently. - Has a well-defined path to higher data rates - Increased cellular communications security. - Extended reach - beneficial to rural users situated far from cells. Disadvantages of CDMA include: - Most technologies are patented and must be licensed from Qualcomm and due to its proprietary nature, all of CDMA's flaws are not known to the engineering community. - Breathing of base stations, where coverage area shrinks under load. As the number of subscribers using a particular site goes up, the range of that site goes down. - Manufacturers are often hesitant to release CDMA devices due to the smaller market, so features are sometimes late in coming to CDMA devices. Advantages of GSM: - Talktime is generally higher in GSM phones due to the pulse nature of transmission. - The availability of Subscriber Identity Modules allows users to switch networks and handsets at will. - GSM covers virtually all parts of the world so international roaming is not a problem. - GSM's maturity means engineers cut their teeth on the technology, creating an unconscious preference. Disadvantages of GSM: - In GSM multiple users share the same bandwidth - GSM has a fixed maximum cell site range of 35 km, which is imposed by technical limitations. - Pulse nature of TDMA transmission used in 2G interferes with some electronics, especially certain audio amplifiers. 3G uses W-CDMA now (Dont know if the same applies to CDMA) Which technology is the best for me? When asking yourself which technology to choose between CDMA vs. GSM, first ask yourself the following questions: 1. Is international roaming important to me? If you travel a lot to foreign countries, you might want to opt for a GSM phone for a better coverage. 2. Am I going to transfer a lot of data using the phone? If you intend to use the phone for mobile web browsing, watching television or downloading MP3s, you might be better off with a CDMA phone. Currently, it offers the best data transfer speed with its EVDO technology and is the clear winner for now. 3. Do I plan to change phone often? If you do, a GSM phone is best for you since you can swap the SIM card to a new device without having to re-enter your personal data.
