Nokia has nearly quit from CDMA as it sees the market as a shrinking one (though it will continue to offer to sell Nokia rebranded CDMA phones produced by contract manufacturers in the China and America.) Dont wait eternally for a C3 release in CDMA as it is not going to happen

Request TATA Indicom To Activate EVDO on Non RUIM Handsets
Karthik R replied to gaurangbhartia's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
YEP! They cant invest in Indicom 'cos of the DOCOMO burden. And now with the launch of 3G the crisis deepens. Havent seen much ads of TI lately, new offers are less frequent.. Who knows, maybe one fine day they will completely pull out of CDMA and shift its subscribers to the GSM wing! It will be a nightmare for me -
For A Corruption Free Society By BSNL
Karthik R replied to kesav's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
It will be improper for Thomas, as CVC, to investigate the 2G spectrum allotment scandal in which his own ministry was involved. Though he became telecom secretary after the allotment, the ministry has consistently defended the allegedly irregular allotments. More importantly, Thomas was involved in a major corruption case relating to import of palm oil from Malaysia when he was the food and civil supplies secretary in Kerala. There was demand for his prosecution but the permission for that was denied by the Centre. The state government was also reluctant to appoint him as the chief secretary because of the taint of the palm oil scandal, though it relented later. An official with such a doubtful record should not have been made the CVC. The leader of the Opposition, Sushma Swaraj, has recorded her dissenting view, and the government should have respected that. There were two other senior government secretaries in the shortlisted panel of candidates. Why did the government insist on its decision when there were others who do not have the cloud of controversy over them? SOURCE - Deccan Herald. -
Government Proposes New Verification Rules For Telecom
Karthik R replied to anshu_s09's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Giving SIM cards free have nothing to do with the bad network Reliance is providing. It is intended to make the telcom facility available to the masses, maintain the monthly additions and motivate fickle-minded subscribers to jump stables. Even the market leader Airtel and Idea is providing new SIMs free with exciting offers like 2gb gprs free for 1 month, 50rs talktime, etc, etc. Maybe with the daily 10rs free recharge Reliance offered their user additions beat their forecast and they are unable to cope up with the load in network. So it can be said that Reliance GSM network is inherently bad -

BSNL Slashes Its 3G Internet Further
Karthik R replied to in.raghav's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
With Tata DOCOMO set to lauch service by diwali and others to be followed soon, this moves is on predictable lines. What they tried to do was skimming the 3G market of cream when it had absolute monopoly for a year and when competition steps in they lower their tariff to keep the flock. Cant say how far the above strategy have been successful for BSNL but they seems to have garnered some 1 million subscribers for 3G. -
South Korea Leads In 3Rd Annual Broadband Study
Karthik R replied to kesav's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
thanks for the new info Kesav but I was also comparing the population and attainment of 100 broadband penetration right. Dont misunderstand me, I am on better technology's side on any day and not with a non-functional government mechanism. -
South Korea Leads In 3Rd Annual Broadband Study
Karthik R replied to kesav's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
My thoughts are on the same line raccoon. Rep'ed but it wont be fair to compare SK with India as SK is a tiny nation with around 5 crore people residing, so achieving 100 per cent broadband penetration is not a big deal but we face a herculean task with our anywhere-above 100 C population! It is for the same reason US doesnt make it to the top 10. Also in SK they have attainted an enviable level of development in all spheres so they can now spend billions of dollars in perfecting their broadband infrastructure. Lastly, they are a model for a fully functional democracy and not a gimmick that we so religiously cite but yeah as you guys said, I think I will never be able to love my BSNL 2Mbps broadband like before after reading this of SK's 37 Mbps! -
Public Notice Against Illegal Monitoring And Interception
Karthik R replied to kesav's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
I was not aware of private organisations monitering calls! And by individuals do you mean geeks How could they infringe into our freedom and space? And I was under the impression that the telecom operators strictly wont allow such monitering of their subscriber's calls expect in situation where the law or Govt. agencies requires them to do so. - Anyway welcome move, though long due. -
They made a point - coming first in the race to offer 3G service matters but if they offer patchy service they will lose out on goodwill and customer satisfaction. Case in point - Tata DOCOMO. They should focus on perfecting their 2G offering first before heavily advertising their 3G life. Here their network disappears completely for 5-10 seconds particularly while using the gprs which gets on one's nerves.

Government Proposes New Verification Rules For Telecom
Karthik R replied to anshu_s09's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Verifying 65 crore mobile subscribers is not impossible. Try the Unique ID plan of Govt. or the census - they supposedly reach out to all the 110 crore people! Address verification must be done but the other moves like resubmitting the documents, disqualifying certain documents are heavy on us and should not be pressed. -

Government Proposes New Verification Rules For Telecom
Karthik R replied to anshu_s09's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Getting a new SIM connection is a breeze now especially with the new operators - DOCOMO, Uninor and Reliance GSM. I know some Idea agents here who take copies of the address proof and the scan the photos of people (I am talking about 1000s!) who have given them for a single connection and activate multiple connection. When i asked them wtf? they answer gaily that they will break the SIM cards after two days and it is just to achieve the targets set to them. They get freebies like tv, ac, bike, etc.. for it. The end result - Idea is the market leader in Kerala with 5.5 million subscribers. Next case Uninor, the guy activated the SIM without getting ANY proof from me! (It was working as it should but dumped it two months later due to bad network). They got to scrutinize this. -

BSNL Provide EVDO In SIM
Karthik R replied to me_saket's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
I will beat you to it I cant help being curious about their tariff plans - After pay-per-call from TI and similar tempting ones from Rel, what else is left to attract subscribers. They too might jump on to the 30p/min CDMA norm -
the snaps are good enough thank you. Yeah! You wont be disappointed with the signal reception.

DoT to come up soon with Licence Renewal Policy, Spectrum Use
Karthik R replied to SUDYEcaZ's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Licence renewal wont be much of a headache for Airtel, Vodafone! They got fat pockets from fleecing the users. The renewal fee should be arrived at keeping in mind that it will be dusted up and quoted when the new operators are due for renewal after 2020. -
think about it - all India uniform, say 80p/min. No roaming charges! If at all this idea is put into action then the call rates will be revised up to around 1re/min to weather the impact.
-
completely agree with you. MTS stands to lose the most in case there is no auction of CDMA waves. But do you think this is going to happen?? Considering the STEP-MOTHERly treatment it have been receiving from Trai, it is highly unlikely

nice initiative esp. the wellness one. Looks like they care. -
maybe the mobile operators world over wants Raja to pay a visit to their respective country to vest and auction the airwaves from the Govt. to their benefit -just kidding-
