  1. Laptop Buying Advice

Wow!! Then considering the fact that the 1215T retails for around 19.7k, this one is a steal. Better equipment at a lower price. Worth waiting for. Thanks for the info.
  2. Laptop Buying Advice

^^^ Can you please share where it is/will be available. Could not find 1215B anywhere. Also are there any significant differences between this one & the 1215T? Thanks!!
  3. Ok Guys, I chanced upon a really good deal though it is offline store & maybe for Mumbai folks (not sure). Yesterday I found the Fujifilm S2500HD available at a special offer only of Rs.9,994/- at CROMA. This is a really good camera & retails normally for 13-14k & the cheapest online price I found was 12.5k. I remember it selling well for 15.5k barely 6 months ago. Product details: http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/s/finepix_s2500hd/features/index.html I have used this camera & its capable of taking great pics. And though there are better cameras which cost over 15-16k, at a price of under 10k, this is an absolute steal. Go for it! I found this in RCity Mall Croma at Ghatkopar. But was informed that its available in other Cromas such as Mulund, Sion, Juhu, Belapur as well. Don't know about other cities.
  4. Thanks Dude! Used it to order a 8gb pen drive. From 600/- it came down to 400/-
  5. Palm Pre : Network Message Diasble

I found the patch. But whats the setting inside it to disable the notification? Anyone?
  6. Palm Pre : Network Message Diasble

I have the same issue in Pixi Plus. Its quite a menace because these notifications keep piling up at the bottom of the screen and all of them read 'Network Message ID (some number) - Mumbai'. Can't we just disable this? If anyone knows how to disable this please inform. It'll be really helpful. Thanks !
  7. Changing Banner Name On Palm Pre

Yes..it works on pixi too...and can be installed with webos QI.. Does not work in Pixi plus I installed thru Webos Quick Installer. It installs fine but does not change the Verizon Wireless banner. Also is there any way of disabling the Reliance network notification popups which keep coming? Found a great solution for Pixi users (if they r ok not to have the carrier name on top left corner). It needs access to Preware. Search & install any of the versions of patch called 'Date As Carrier'. Do a restart. Now you will find the current date at the top left corner. Looks nice ! Date followed by time in the center of the bar...
  8. Palm Pre Offline Gps Maps Working Perfectly !

Hi ami1, Could you find a solution for this? I am using maptool with pulled maps of Mumbai on Pixi plus. Though the maps are about 46 Mb, they take up around 2 GB of space Can you reccomend a solution to :- 1. Opt for a different WebOs software & offline Maps where this multiple file issue does not arise? 2. A way to effectively compress the space taken by these map images & continue using Maptool. Thanks for your help!

  10. Reliance Broadband+ Wi-Fi Pocket Router

Thanks kesav Haven't tried that configuration yet. But will do so in a couple of days & post back here.

@cooldude Would this work with the Pixi Plus? And can we install this (after changes) with webos quick install?
  12. Reliance Broadband+ Wi-Fi Pocket Router

Hi pajat, I have been using the Olive router for around 3 months now. I find it quite easy to use. The initial settings are not very difficult. The range is quite good. In fact I'm getting better coverage area with this than the 3 year old Linksys which I have. However the battery life is around an hour & a half, not 4 hours as mentioned by someone ( I normally keep it plugged in). The ethernet port can be dually configured to be utilised either as a Lan (if you want to distribute an USB based internet connection via ethernet cable) or as a Wan (if the net connection reaches the router thru an ethernet cable). No reliability issues thus far. A very similar looking model is made by another brand called Zalip (no difference at all though some say that has wifi 'n' in addition to 'b' & 'g'). However Zalip is available for around 5k which is fifteen hundred more than the Olive. I use my Olive with my Netconnect plus. At times its useful to place this router in a position where there is better reception for the dongle rather than if it was fixed to the laptop location. I haven't tried any custom firmware out there but I hear 'tomato' has been succesfully used with it. If you're looking for a basic portable router then you can confidently go for this one. If you wish to buy it from offline sources, you can buy them retail at Croma stores. Best, man-saturday.
  13. Updated Palm Pre Plus To 2.1.0

Hi cooldude, Would this work for Pixi Plus as well. If not, is there another tutorial available to upgrade Pixi Plus?
  14. Does anyone actually know how to utilize this offer above? Its there on the website of both 'letsbuy' & 'reliance'. It keeps mentioning about a voucher which needs to be entered at the check out stage but I don't know how to get hold of the voucher. Anyone? (I need to purchase a digicam from them & this offer would have given me like 2k off.) But Bros, Reliance Website Showing its expire on 31st jan,2011 http://www.rcom.co.in/Rcom/personal/postpaid/letsbuy.html Oops!! I could have sworn I saw the date as 31st March just a couple of days ago. Anyway, bad luck I guess. However what is generally the redemption process for these offers. Does Reliance Sms these voucher codes upon request or is it like a free for all? Anyone used these special offers successfully?

  16. Sprint Htc Hero - The Latest Android Kid On The Block

Hi All, Would like to share the final stable process I used to successfully get onto the Froyo bandwagon. This may not be of any use to the experts here but should benefit first timers trying to upgrade their rooted Hero to 2.2. The reason for posting this is that I faced many issues of instability, force closes (FC), market issues etc while trying out the many Cyanogenmod ROM versions out there. The one I found the stablest and smoothest for my Hero was the CM6 Extremely Blue V23 (19th Oct) NOT the latest V24 (25th Oct). Let me list the detailed process which worked flawlessly for me. Hope it helps you. Hero configuration before update: Running Official Sprint ROM 2.1 (the .6 version) Rooted & running Clockworkmod Recovery. Files needed (All links taken from Xda Dev Forums):- A. ROM V23 19-OCT Extremely Blue CM6 Build - EXTBLUE_19OCT.zip http://www.mediafire.com/file/3tzp0mmsxiv63rp/EXTBLUE_19OCT.zip B. Tiny GAPPS - without CarHome, ChromeToPhone, Facebook, Goggles, GoogleVoice, QuickOffice, Twitter http://www.mediafire.com/file/xsfhlz3yc6frmbl/gapps-mdpi-tiny-20101008-signed.zip Or if you need the missing apps above you can download the Full Gapps from :- http://www.mediafire.com/file/powlp4b426c1iwg/gapps-mdpi-20101008-signed.zip C. Installed From Market - Titanium Backup & Rom Manager with flashed Clockworkmod recovery. Also SMS backup & restore and Call logs backup & restore. Steps:- 1. Titanium backup all 'user apps & system data'. Now Backup SMS list & Call log using the apps mentioned above. 2. Nandroid backup your existing Rom either using Rom Manager or manually in reboot to recovery. 3. Place the downloaded zip files in the SD Card either in the root directory or a folder of your choice. 4. Option 1 - Launch Rom Manager and choose 'Install Rom from SD Card', choose the above Rom zip file on the SD card & enable wipes for data & cache. Option 2 - Reboot manually into recovery & then wipe data & cache (also go to advanced & wipe dalvik). Then go to 'install zip from sdcard' & further into 'choose zip from sdcard' & select the rom zip above. Let the Rom update finish & lead to the reboot. 5. It may take a while for the first reboot so be patient. Immediately after reboot, skip intro (do not sign into google now) & switch to 'Airplane mode'. Disable 1x data. 6. Enable Wifi & configure settings to your home network so the phone can connect to internet. 7. Reboot into recovery manually & repeat Option 2 in Step 4 to install the Gapps from SD card. After it loads, reboot. 8. After the reboot (still automatically in Airplane mode) & wifi connected, launch market and sign in using your google account. Enable the 'Sync' option for the phone to update all your google contacts etc. Download Titanium Backup from market. 9. Using Titanium Backup, Restore 'all user apps & system data'. It will automatically install the apps one by one & pull some from the market. If you choose to skip any of the apps from installing, you may do so. 10. After the restore operation, you may want to organise your widgets etc. the way you like them. If you are desperately missing the weather clock look of Sense you can install 'fancy widget' from the market. If you are missing the old dialer style install 'Dialer One' from market. 11. Now disable wifi & enable 1x data. Check if the phone connects fine thru 1x like before. 12. Power Off & reboot after a soft reset (taking out battery for 5-10 secs). 13. Test different scenarios for a while. If everything is running ok then take another nandroid backup of the current Rom. This procedure worked very well for me. Froyo has seriously speeded up my phone in the basic operations like dialing, switching between apps etc. Battery life is as good/as bad as before. No serious change. I tried SetCpu from market & didn't find it very effective. I also tried Collin's battery tweak and found it of some use, though marginal. In case you wish to give it a shot get instructions from here:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=762283 If you folks have other recommendations/processes for updating to Froyo Roms please share. Other useful Tips & Tweaks too will be much appreciated. Thanks for your time & happy ROMming... Regards, Basu
  17. Sprint Htc Hero - The Latest Android Kid On The Block

@ Dhiraj - The only app called 'Tasker' i could find was a paid version for UK. So haven't been able to try. My hero is on rooted Sprint RUU 2.1 and the battery drain with 1x is quite bad.
  18. Sprint Htc Hero - The Latest Android Kid On The Block

Query regarding battery drain on 1x data. My Hero lasts for upto 48 hours with some calls when 1x is off. However it lasts only 13 hours 30 minutes with 1x on and NO calls. The difference is huge. So was wondering if there are any apps or hacks which can turn on 1x at a regular interval. For eg. every hour for 3 minutes to update mails etc. & then switch off 1x again for the next hour. Is it possible at all? If Gurus can help.
  19. Sprint Htc Hero - The Latest Android Kid On The Block

For all those keen to follow the developments of Cyanogen 2.2 (Froyo) being created for Hero, here is the official thread. It may take a while for it to be refined & stable though. http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/2059-cyanogenmod-600-for-htc-hero-gsmcdma-alpha-preview-test0-0705/ If any Guru can list the main features/advantages of 2.2 over 2.1, kindly list (bearing in mind their usablility on Hero, with its relatively older hardware). It may not be a very big jump. Comments please...
  20. Divx Player For Android & Evdo On Incredible Finally

^^ This is the very same player which dheeraj posted in the very beginning of this thread. It works on the faster snapdragon processor but not on the older processor of the Hero. As far as I've found out no player exists which can play without conversion on the Hero. But do correct me if I'm wrong.
  21. Divx Player For Android & Evdo On Incredible Finally

@dkaile, the above software does not work with my Hero running rooted sprint ruu 2.1. It installs just fine but subsequently refuses to play even the simplest most rudimentary .avi clips. I also tried other formats such as .wmv and it cant read those either. Could this software (demo player, as its called) be meant only for the Incredible or have any other android device been tested with it? @sumitvarma, I tried installing the software from the '.kr' (korean?) site. It comes with a se***l ge****tor where one is supposed to feed in the Imei of the phone. I only have a 15 digit Imsi number (no imei as its cdma) which generates a code for registration which does not work. Has this been tested on a Hero? Would love to have a good player for the Hero. If any other (non-conversion) players exist please do inform.

  23. Sprint Htc Hero - The Latest Android Kid On The Block

Hi, I did the update & my data is working fine along with everything else. I'm a newbie so just a thought. I had disabled USB debugging mode when I did my update to 2.1. Could that have made a diff? @dkaile - my data working hero has PRI 2.20_003 . Also the one difference I noticed in my PPP tab in QPST was that my Um username remained at UTS@relianceinfo.com but my AM username had changed to 'some 14 digit hex number'@hcm.sprintpcs.com If you want anymore info/screenshots do let me know. Glad to help you.
