Ok, so searched around the forums but didn't see a live thread discussion about digicams, so am starting one. I need to buy a Digicam to gift to a friend. The budget is less than 10K, preferably around 8k mark. I have NEVER bought a digicam before and have absolutely no idea what features, parameters qualify a digicam as a good one. So would appreciate good suggestions from members here... Thanks BTW, I bought two laptops after recommendations here and both turned out great so asking here first is quite the norm now!

Lol... Just noticed that the ebay sellers for both products say, "No Shipping to WB" (AM in Kolkata)!

Hey Guys... Many Thanks for both the recos. I am looking a bit more inclined towards the Nikon one for the brand value it carries, as it ultimately is for a gift... You think it's a good choice?

Irresistable Deals In Electronics, Gadgets, Mobiles, PC Hardware
Sadik replied to rajanmehta's topic in General Technical Discussion
List of winners is put up there >> http://www.letsbuy.c...aka-winners-all I noticed one name Sadik Bhimani from Kolkata who won Nokia C3-01 Touch & Type on 9th october. I think he is RIMweb member. Free Shopping means that amount paid for the item should be refunded. Yep that's me! My mom wanted a new Nokia phone, so i bought one from LB on 9th Sunday. I got a mail saying that I have won the Diwali Dhamaka gift and my mobile is free. I paid by credit card so my card was charged on purchase. I called their customer service and they said that they will be refunding the entire amount back to my credit card in 7-10 days. They have not charged for shipping at all. It's 4 days so I am guessing the amount will be refunded next week. P.S. Thanks saket for the PM Btw Let's buy also shipped a cool torch cum multi-functional screw driver along with the phone (it came in today) for free and their packaging was top notch. I would definitely recommend Let's Buy for your purchases.- 6,376 replies

Thanks a lot Venkat for the suggestion! That machine also looks fantastic... but I am afraid it's a little late! I bought today Toshiba C660-P5012 ! Again Thanks very much to Rajan bhai. It's now the second great machine I have bought on your advice! So, the Toshiba shop here charged 19500+5%Vat+1500 Rs for 2 GB extra RAM (ya RAM me thoda jyada kharcha kar diya, i should have bargained it's price) So they charged me a total to 21800 Rs. That's for an excellent Toshiba machine with 4GB now! I just finished installing all the programs for the Mrs. and the laptop is really fast. It seems faster than my AMD Athlon II Dual Core L640 M04010, but that may be because this one is new and mine has been going on for many months now.

Those two look like fantastic options. I think we will go for Toshiba Satellite C Series C660-P5012 and add a 2 GB RAM to it. That should make for a very good Laptop performance wise too. I will be going to the market tomorrow to see if someone can improve the Flipkart rate of Rs 20,320

First off, love the smilies! Well I guess I can try to convince her about the 15.6 inch thing. The budget is 25K. Any idea how much a 1GB DDR3 RAM costs, because I can then purchase a 2GB model and ADD ram if things remain within budget!

Hi Rajan bhai Thanks again for the great references. However the thing is this laptop is for my wife. Now she insists she will not buy a laptop with screen size more than 14 inch. So all 15.6 inch laptops are out. I thought AMD would come at a lower cost hence the AMD preference. Also 3 GB so that performance is good. Now these two look good. But both have 2 GB RAM. http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180674754835#ht_4831wt_938 http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300562452568#ht_5575wt_965 I also found these two, but can't locate them on ebay. http://www.gadgetsguru.in/compaq-presario-cq41-221au-price-specification-buy-india-10108.aspx http://www.flipkart.com/computers/laptops/samsung/itmcyswyewppxqeb?pid=comcwaucnfpuxfuy Are there any others I am missing? Thanks again...

Hi Everyone again. I am looking to buy another Laptop. What I have in mind are these specs AMD Processor, preferably better than Athlon Dual Core, but that will do. 14'' Screen 3GB DDR3 RAM I am looking at a budget if below 25K. Can someone suggest a good model. Last time thanks to Rajan Mehta, I bought this great Toshiba L640 which is sadly no longer available in market in Kolkata.

Hi Guys, Finally went ahead and purchased today. I purchased Toshiba L640 M4010. Currently typing on it! So it turns out Toshiba has stopped supplying M4010 and M4310 models, as I had a very hard time locating dealers who had these models. I finally found it from a dealer who's known to my elder brother. He too didn't have the 4310 model. So I purchased L640 M4010 at a total cost of Rs 25,500 including all taxes! That's a rate you can't beat, and it was due to my brother knowing the dealer well. L640-X4310 was at Rs 39000 and I saw no point in shelling out 14K more just for the sake of Intel. The configuration in this thing is brilliant at this unbeatable price. Once again, many thanks to Rajan bhai for the info.

Ya, the cpu is obviously the difference, the site you linked to says that intel has L3 cache of 3 GB wheareas L2 cache of 512 MB and 64 KB L1. And AMD has 128 KB L1, 1GB L2 and no L3. I will see the difference in their prices. I honestly don't know how much difference, if any, the cpu caches make.

Thanks, Reading around, I am convinced that I will go with AMD since overall people seem to be pleased with it's price and performance. I have now shortlisted to L640-M4310/L640-X4310 versus L640-M4010 The only differences that i can see as per this link are L640-M4310 has Windows 7 pre-installed while L640-M4010 is NON-OS. Else the hardware is absolutely same as per the Toshiba website. Even L640-M4010 has 3 GB RAM and ATI 512 MB Graphics Card. NON OS may be a good thing as the price would be lower. I can always install my Windows XP copy on it or go with Ubuntu. L640-X4310 has 3MB L2 Cache and Windows 7 versus L640-M4010 having 1 MB L2 Cache and NO OS. I am not sure how much performance impact the extra 2 MB of L2 cache will bring. What's your opinion? I am planning to visit a few Toshiba stores today (I am in Kolkata) and will report back the prices I find. Will buy today or Monday.

Hello Rajan bhai Thanks a lot for your post. The links you gave were very helpful. I have spent the last two hours surfing the various laptop brand sites and I must say I am sold on Toshiba. At the moment I am leaning towards Model No.: L640-M4010. It seems to have everything including HDMI port. My only concern is sound quality which may not be great. Also I have never used AMD based machines before. Also I was hoping for DVD RW support which doesn't seem to be there in most models. What do you think the price point of this Model will be, and is there any comparable model. Thanks

Hi Guys, It's been a long time since I posted anything On Rimweb. I am going to buy a new Laptop so I thought I might as well ask for opinions from Rimweb experts! So my budget is around 30K and I want a laptop with at least 4 GB RAM! I am open for any brand/model. I was using Dell D630 for the last 3 years and it has been very good work/performance/movies/games wise. I am not really a gamer guy and I use my Laptop for mostly my work (which can include heavy programming, image editing etc.), movies and occasionally playing Thief 3. So what's a good buy currently at around 30K? Thanks!

Well, one of my colleagues at office, a girl, received a phone call from someone claiming to be from our office HR. The person on phone was asking her to give the names and phone numbers of those people she works with, meaning rest of us, stating it was some sort of HR procedure. My colleague got very suspicious and asked that person to call later. She asked me and I said, if this person is from HR, already everyone's details is in company database so why ask? So i told her not to give anyone's no. and hang up if that person calls again. Surely she received the call and she this time forcefully said, she cannot give details of anyone else and hung up. The whole episode was bizarre because i am sure it was not anyone from our company calling her.

I am not actually buying... but yeah just saw the pixi plus specs and it's got wi-fi.

Good review parin. The lack of Wi-Fi is a big minus for me for a phone of this range. 2 MP camera is ok in a business phone but Wi-Fi is a must!

Hi, this is long overdue... I am Sadik, and am from Kolkata. I was looking to buy a smart phone / HTC for reliance and was very frustrated at the total lack of availability of great handsets for reliance CDMA. That was until I found this forum. People are very helpful here and I ended up ordering a HTC TP2 from Hitesh. One week to go before the get that in my hand!!! Apart from that, I am actually a Comp. Sc. engg and I work for PWC Consultancy. I am otherwise good with programming and stuff but very new to smartphones and all. Hopefully in a few months I can also share a tip or two for others... Cheers guys!
