  1. I wonder if LG G2 would work with Reliance Jio .... Eagerly waiting for the service to launch...
  2. No 'Pilot' location near my area ... Was eagerly waiting for them to launch the service.....
  3. @Santanu - I know this clarification is coming too late... I just saw your post while going through is thread. The other post you are refering to is correct that the handset was officially registered. Later when I purchased a new handset, they said their policy has changed so hence my comment that I have moved out of tata due to Non registration. As of now I think you are right, there might be a chance of registration. But I have already moved out of Tata due to poor service (both in call and technical) ! And I think you are right about the 'Contacts' part !
  4. It does come with Officially Registration. I have moved away from Tata due to the sole reason that they did not officially register my handset.
  5. Evo 3D on Tata does not come with official registration does it ? 1p/min ?? Which plan ?
  6. Akey Generation

    Hello Every1, I had a lot of problems lately (mostly due to lack of knowlege) generating Akey... There is not much on the web... So from whatever I knowlegde I have gained in the past few weeks, I am posting it on the Forum for other members to use. Akey Generation (Points to Remember) : - Akey should be 20 digit Decimal (0-9) - Akey should not start with 0 (preferable first 4 digits should not be 0) [ this is because HLR converts Decimal Akey to Hex and then back to Decimal. In case the digits have preceeding 0, there may be a conflict as the HLR adds zeros to the end rathar than starting. This happens in case of Some ISPs. However this may not be true for all ISPs] - First 2 digits of the Akey has to be less than 18 [Actually it has to be less than 184xxxxxxx, but generate something lower just to be safe ] - Checksum Can be generated using CDMA WS by entering pE$n/E$n - Checksum is only required to feed the akey in the handset, the ISP does not need it. Furthermore, I have noticed that for better compatibility, It is better to get the Akey generated by the ISP through HLR and then feed it in the handset. [Though everyone may not be lucky enough for this.] I will update this thread with any new info I get... Last but not the least I would like to thank Muffy Bhai and Hitesh Bhai for the help and co-operation they have extended to me. (Specially to Muffy bhai who has kept up with the 100000000s of questions I have asked him and that I continue asking him everyday ! ) Hope the other members find this information usefull. -Gaurang [PS: DO NOT CHANGE AKEY OF YOUR HANDSET If it is able to make outgoing calls. ]
  7. Akey Generation

    Well the Tata guys have to feed the Akey that you have fed in your handset to their back-end servers. When the A-Key fed by you AND the one fed into Tata servers are the same, then you will be able to use your handset. I had gone through this same process about 8 months back, it doesn't work. Tata people don't know how to activate foreign Meid's.I had couple of friends in Tata technical team , after slogging for 3 days they were in the same delima as you have mentioned. SO i said TA-TA to tata , and i was on Reliance :Contento: :Contento:
  8. Hi Every1, Does anyone know any good deals for Online Ups 1kva ? I remember iBall 1kvs was available for about 12k. Anyone used iBall Ups ? Any reviews ?
  9. I dunno if I am allowed to post Buy-Sell Bazaar links from this Forum itself, but I have been told it should not be out of the rules.... so here it is : (If it is incorrect to post it here, then mods may remove it)
  10. Your Latest Hardware Purchase

    I dont think so. I got mine through a friend who stays in the US. Even if they are available, I'm sure they will be costlier than getting it from your SNS acc. When jabra stone was available for $60 in US, it was costing anywhere from 7-9k in the delhi shopping malls. I hardly doubt you will get a good deal here. Besides, I dont think that the market for expensive headsets is present in India. I had tried to sell my icon through rimweb at cost price in Unopened box(I had orderd 2 at that time which was Jan-2010) but I didnt even get enquiries. Finally I sold it off through ebay.
  11. Your Latest Hardware Purchase

    @kshah - Will let you know about noise cancellation and over all sound level in noisy environment in a few days. For non music, icon suggested because of price (ie. value for money) since I found no significant difference in call quality. If your friend wants to hear music then definately Era is better.Also I forgot to mention, Era's battery life is supposed to be a little bit better.
  12. Offtopic : Here it is... -> http://www.rimweb.in/forums/topic/31979-jawbone-era-short-review/
  13. Your Latest Hardware Purchase

    Hi Every1, I recently got Jawbone Era, so I thought I should write a short review for other members who want to purchase the product. I am doing this in a hurry so no pics as of now.. but you can Google them.. Design & Looks : Design is pretty much straight forward and similar to Icon and other Jawbone headsets. The headset is sufficiently small and light. I preferred the looks of my icon Rouge though. In my opinion, the looks of Jawbone Era are better in pictures. I got the Shadowbox version and found it to be a bit too plasticy. Comfort/Durability of Earbuds: Era is comfortable, but again I preferred the Icon's comfort levels. The ear buds of icon were better in terms of comfort. The ear buds of Era seem to be more durable though. After I removed and re-installed the ear buds, Icon ear buds tend to get loosened a bit. Era's ear bud remain tight. Audio Quality : Era definitely wins here both in terms of call as well as music. The difference in call is negligible/marginal, nothing that you would notice if you don't hear them side by side. But in music, it is a different story all together. The Era, if used along with equilizer (like power amp) sounded much much better than Icon in music. Motion Sensor : Although this works, I would strongly suggest you not to buy the headset due to this feature, since it is in its basic form at the moment. Known Problems : I have heard reviews that there is a problem that the headsets crackle. Mine didn't crackle before the software update, but they did crackle after I updated the software. But after resetting/restarting, the problem disappeared. There are occasional 'crackles' but they are rare and nothing to get bothered by. Seems its a small software glitch which should get fixed soon. Verdict : If you don't tend to listen to songs on the headset, I would suggest you to go for Jawbone Icon which is available for half the price (Around $40 new ) Also I suggest NOT to get 'Bulk'/'OEM' Packing without the extra ear buds, as they play a critical role in the comfort levels and thus the overall wearing experience.
  14. Any good deal for HP 6500A or Epson 960FWD ? Which of these All in one printer is better ? Any idea ? I am more inclined to go by Epson due to print speed...
  15. @Kshah - If you can wait for some more time, I have already ordered the Jawbone Era. It should reach me in a few days... will let you know about the performance once I get it. I mean if you want to wait for a short review. Else the links that you posted are fine. it costs around $75 for new. I wont suggest you to go for bulk packing coz they dont give you all the ear buds and fitting is very important.
  16. Sprint HTC EVO 4G

    I was on Mik Froyo 4.62 i think.... Its fast and stable... I'll try MikG 2.1 and post the results... it should be good too...
  17. Incoming Call Problem on Tata Indicom

    ^ If there is a A-key/SSD Mismatch, you will not be able to make outgoing calls.... So it seems there is no problem with your Akey so dont even think of touching that section. Even I am facing the problem that people can't call me and I get a missed call alert message. It is a network problem in Delhi wherever there is low signal. Nothing to do with your handset or Akey. You can check your signal level using soft available on android. just search in the android market.
  18. Microsoft Buys Skype For $8.5 Billion

    ^ Haa haa haa... Was hoping Google would get their hands on to skype...guess they will now have to concentrate on Google voice !
  19. I would suggest you to get a headset with noise cancellation. Makes a HUGE difference,specially if you talk on the move. Once more thing, while buying a headset - you must make sure that a) its comfortable to wear & b ) the volume is more than loud (reason is if you are in a busy environment, you cant hear anything through some bluetooth headsets.)
  20. Vote For Best OS

    Hello Every1, I was just reading in a topic, that people wanted a Poll for best OS. Here is a Comparison between : Ubuntu & Windows 7 http://www.tuxradar.com/node/33 However, we cannot judge the OS solely on performance. We also have to give into practical considerations such as Programs/Software available, GUI experiance etc. I will try to update the post with a comparison if it is feasable on certain practical topics... Till then ... Just vote for your favorite OS and post the reason so other people can know ...
  21. Ordered HDD.. Thanks AeroAmit... Will keep all of you posted once I receive it ..
  22. Android ----> CDMA iPhone?

    I would prefer android to any mobile phone OS (currently avilable) ! @KanagaDeepan - ROFL !! gr8 one !!
  23. HTC EVO *228 Help

    You need to get your MEID & Akey of your EVO registered with Reliance.
  24. 13K Or Evrc Or Evrc-B

    What is EVRC ? "Enhanced Variable Rate CODEC (EVRC) is a speech codec used in CDMA networks. It was developed in 1995 to replace the QCELP vocoder which used more bandwidth on the carrier's network, thus EVRC's primary goal was to offer the mobile carriers more capacity on their networks while not increasing the amount of bandwidth or wireless spectrum needed.[1]. EVRC uses RCELP technology, which Qualcomm claims improves speech quality with lower bit rates.[citation needed] EVRC compresses each 20 milliseconds of 8000 Hz, 16-bit sampled speech input into output frames of one of three different sizes: full rate – 171 bits (8.55 kbit/s), half rate – 80 bits (4.0 kbit/s), eighth rate – 16 bits (0.8 kbit/s). A quarter rate was not included in the original EVRC specification and eventually became part of EVRC-B." -Taken from Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EVRC Now to talk in layman's language, I will skip what are vocoders and blah blah blah and come down to the point ! Recenty, I started reading about it and found that we can use different vocoders by changing setting on the phone. You can find the settings on your phone or use QPST to change it. Here are the advantages and the disadvantages of the different vocoders based on my testing and/or other 100s of pages I read on the internet. (I would like to thank all the unnamed people in various forums for posting their experience) 13K : Intro : This is an old method of coding the voice and uses 13k bandwidth. Advantages : Many people claim that the voice is more clearer by using this codec. Theoretically since this uses 13k bandwidth, as against 8k of EVRC, voice should be clearer and nuances of human sound should be better reproduced. Some people have also commented that although it was clearer in a quite environment, it was worse than EVRC in noisy environment as it does not have any kind of noise suppression. However, I didn't not find any significant improvement in clarity when I changed to this codec. Disadvantages : It does not contain any noise suppression technique, and since it is fixed bitrate, it uses more bandwidth of the operator (which means, theoretically in case all of the people change to this codec, it might create a network congestion) . In noisy environment, noise is also picked up. In case of network congestion, data gets dropped more frequently as this method does not employ a very good error correction technique. In congested areas, your data might drop more frequently if you choose this codec. (Some very few people have commented that their signal stability has increased). Although I did FEEL that my connections were getting dropped more, I cannot be very sure as it was by an insignificant margin. EVRC : Intro : This is a variable rate Codec with maximum bandwidth of 8k. Advantages : It is supposed to be a variable rate codec, where 0 bits are transmitted when silence is detected, therefore uses less bandwidth. This codec claims to achieve this with maintaining a good voice quality. It is also claimed that this codec has noise suppression and error correction algorithms, hence more stability. ( I did not find any significant stability increase/decrease) Disadvantages : The voice clarity is supposed to be lesser than that of 13K & EVRC-B. EVRC-B : Intro : It is the newest method similar to original EVRC with employment of quarter rate. Advantages : It employs better error correction techniques and a quarter rate. Hence Voice clarity and stability should increase. It also helps achieve better bandwidth allocation for the operators. After changing to this method, I did notice that my connection was a bit more stable, however only slightly. Note : Please do note that the Cell tower that you are connected to CAN control your phone's settings for codec and override your settings in QPST (May or may not depending on how the operator has deployed/configured their towers) This post is for informative purpose so that the users can try EVRC-B, and if they have any luck, it may improve their call quality. Suggestion : Since towers can control this setting, I suggest that you can try changing to EVRC-B. If the tower lets you use your settings, you might get a better call quality.If the tower overrides the settings, then you will not feel any difference. However, if you are in a rural area, EVRC-B may not be deployed. Just check the settings, and if it works for you, keep it, else revert back to default. Warning : Please do this at your own risk. I do not take any responsibility whatsoever if anything gets spoilt !
