My vote for XP. Reason : All the legacy app and programing apps work seemlessly. Other than that, I would have voted for Ubuntu.

I agree with you dear Dhiraj Brother. The voting casted by our members till now is very less. My suggestion to Arun is, make this thread to be viewed compulsorily by every member who login to the forum, (Obviously no mandatory voting but the thread should be viewed by each and every member). This will help to cast more voting from our members. Its only a suggestion dear friends...... Suggestion : I think a similar poll like this one should be opened for the new members who have joined in the past year and have grown and contributed back substantially to the forum. No prizes though. I think it will motivate the new users to come up and actively participate and post. Just a suggestion... @Rajan - Great Effort... +1 for you..

I would like to vote for : Sadikk Mufaddal Hitesh Dkaile Hetal Can I give 5 votes ? Its difficult to choose one ..... @Arun - How about allowing multiple votes? That would get interesting !
-
^ Hope some of you are contacted and the thief gets caught !! @ Dkaile - Really sad for your loss... @Hetal : Just installed Lookout... It does give u an idea of where the phone is(even for CDMA)(mine got located to 100 feet). However, as said above, if the thief is smart, he can easily get though it. But in cases that you realize the phone is missing and try to track it before that, I think there might be a chance. Atleast I feel something is better than nothing ! How about activating latitude on our phones ? that should give exact gps coordinates (though it will eat up battery) ? Also lookout will be free till they launch a premium service, so those who have signed up before that should still get it free. I am discussing this just to make sure we protect ourselves to the max when such things happen.....

I have been in this forum for a short while, but recently, some of the forum members were unhappy due to people who 'leech'. Let me start by giving a definition of leechers : they are people who take knowledge from the forum but do not contribute back ! A question comes to my mind... at a point of time, when I was not knowing anything at all (I literally knew nothing), I used the forum to learn. I was helped by a lot of people like (Saddik, Hitesh, Muffadal, Dkaile, Hetal, and others to name a few) knowingly or unknowingly(through their posts). I wanted to contribute a lot back but due to lack of technical knowledge, I felt helpless ! Will I be branded as a leecher ? Another question that comes to my mind is that when we were all kids, going to a school, learning new things in life from our teachers/friends, have we contributed everything back ? If a teacher has 10 students, and some are unfit for learning, should he stop teaching ? How can we know if a newbie is a leecher or just a newbie waiting for the knowledge to get imparted ? My point is that we cannot know who will turn out to be a leecher and who will turn out to be a guru in future. Out of 100s or 100000000s of people, only some turn out to be like Muffadal, Saddik, Hitesh, Hetal, Dkaile, etc. But how can we know which one will turn out to be like whom ? People who have achieved a lot are few aren't they ? My whole point of writing this post is to request : Mods/Gurus : Please don't get disappointed by some people and continue being considerate to newbies. Afterall, they form an integral part of the forum as Gurus don't need the forum for knowledge ! It is the newbies who eventually have to learn and continue the forum and pass on the knowledge to other newbies. You might only find 1 in a thousand, but don't loose your chances of finding that 1. Newbies : Please try and contribute in whatever way you can. Afterall, sharing & caring will make it a better world for everyone ! This is just a thought that has come to my mind. Hope it is taken in a good gesture.

Thats a sad news... Hearing this, a question comes to my mind... Do you think 'Lookout' (android app) can save such incidences ? (Of course I know that some people will know how to bypass it, but if he is an un-informed theif, Do you think It might help ?)

By power I didnt mean battery life.. I meant processor, ram, and other features which is way way lower than what you get in laptops...But , its a very personal choice.. Do you do web developement as your business ?

Firefox... Btw, I dont know about passwords and autocomplete feilds, but you can sync bookmarks by using add-in. -
Great Goin ! Though I'm not much 'Fascinated' by 'Galaxy Tab' !.... Cant find a use for it.... It cant be my phone (not small enough) and it cant be my laptop (not powerful enough). Plus around that price you get quite a few laptops with good configuration. I think it is only for a very very niche market...

^ Something here is wrong.. the phone cannot update to 3.29.651.1... the official update was 3.29.651.5 ! And the phone is very much stable with that (Am using it) ! Have you been trying to flash custom roms? cause there is no 3.29.651.1 update officially. Secondly I would advice you to either wait for 3.30 official release or flash 3.29.651.5 which is the official version for stability and fixes.
-
Update : I think some people confirm unrevoked method is working on 3.30, so you can try and root, turn s-off and flash whatever rom/radio version you want to flash. However, be careful as this has not been tried by many people. Just some. So there is a chance of bricking. Secondly, I cant understand why you want to go back ? Ver.3.3 is supposed to make camera shots better and have a better battery life !
-
^ Can you confirm the version ? Is it 3.30.651.2? I dont think they have released the official update as yet...Or did you try the Desktop RUU ? I'm not sure if Unrevoked will work for this version... but you could give it a try.... WARNING : There is a significant risk that you could brick your phone if you try to root this version as it has not been tested as yet! So be careful !

Android Os Upgrade Feasibilty For Gsm Handsets
gaurangbhartia replied to rajanmehta's topic in Android
^ Chances of bricking are exactly the same ! (though its not that easy to brick a phone, unless you make a blunder or the maker of a custom rom makes a blunder... .. or if you install a rom from another phone, you might permanently damage the radio rendering the phone useless as it will not catch any network even though it might boot properly) Look ... Trust me.. I have done a lot of Rom changing with my O2 Atom, infact, I had bricked it and then revived it from a brick (O2 Atom has a secondary access to bootloader which cannot be over-written) ! (Thanks to help from some sweet people at xda). As for bricking, it sometimes refers to a phone rendered useless and non-working at the moment but still relivable. In some cases it can be revived and in some very rare cases it cannot be revived. I'm only new to the CDMA arena since there was no question of programmming in GSM, I never needed to learn... thats why I know nothing when it comes to service programming or authentication etc. -
You have my support too... (in whatever way I can, I'm ready to help) Haa haa, I'll be surprised of they ask that question ! Btw, most of the imp stuff on the forum (incl. the tutorial you are referring to...) is gone... :'( ... sob sob... off topic : @ shadaabsharik - Ahem ! I'm single so far... But I think I'll have to take the opinion of 'Experts' before going into this venture (hope the gurus are listening) whenever my time comes... lolz ... Thanks Btw...

Android Os Upgrade Feasibilty For Gsm Handsets
gaurangbhartia replied to rajanmehta's topic in Android
^ What I said in my answer is irrespective to GSM or CDMA. My cousin has a HTC HD2 and we have tried Android on it (was a bit laggy but we'll try a new Rom soon). It is available as the lovely people on xda developers have ported the drivers on it. Similary when it comes to phone, be it GSM or CDMA, OS has nothing to do with network... Ok maybe some settings like wi-fi tethering and all are locked, and some other applications (like voicemail etc) are tied to the operating system which may or may not be removed. But in general what I said holds true..... Service Programming and OS form seperate parts. In GSM the Customer data is stored in SIM card whereas in CDMA it is stored on the phone chip itself, which is seperate from the OS. Yeah ... I would love to hear your take on this one.. Simple answer : NO ! You need to port the drivers as mentioned in the first paragraph of my first port. You cannot just upgrade videocon, spice etc by downloading a generic Froyo 2.2. PS: If you are planning to buy a GSM phone... hold on a bit...Huawei is launching Ideos (they say price should be around 5k, making it the best value for money phone even better than the ones you mentioned) and Samsung has already launched Galaxy 3 which is similar to the models you have posted, which of course are no match for EPIC, EVO etc since they dont have the processor (only 528-667 mhz) on most of them, so you wont be able to see flash vidoes even with froyo.... So I would suggest you wait for the phones and 3g to be launched properly (a month or two) before plunging into GSM right now. -
^ Don't go by 'Coming soon' of these sites... As mentioned, it is all BS. There once once a 'Coming Soon' for a mobile called Olive VG-1 link --> http://www.newtechnology.co.in/olive-vg1-price/ If you notice the first post was posted in Jan 2010. Now its almost Nov 2010 and still no news whatsoever or any clarifications of any kind. So don't go by these sites. Furthermore, Reliance in the past has always been over-pricing its handset... there is no way that this will be launched in 17-19k. I will be really surprised if they do !

Android Os Upgrade Feasibilty For Gsm Handsets
gaurangbhartia replied to rajanmehta's topic in Android
^ I don't understand some portion of your question. But I'll try and answer to the best of my knowledge. If your handset is lets say Android 1.6 and you want to upgrade to 2.1 or 2.2. -> It is better to get a phone in which you get custom roms available on various forums such as xda-developers. If you want to make a Rom for your phone (lets say with base Froyo 2.2), it is not an easy job as you have to start with base and then port the drivers for your device. I'm not saying it cannot be done... I'm saying its v. difficult... If you are talking about changing certain aspects of a rom eg. you already have froyo for your device and want to make it custom by putting a custom theme/ changing default applications etc., it is a bit easier as many people have published their 'rom-kitchen' though which you can build your rom. If you already have a custom rom available, then is is relatively very very easy to flash ! (Dont forget to take a Nandroid backup before you do .. ) As for the hardware features, you loose some of it depending on the custom roms if they are in its initial stages. But once developed, you pretty much have everything. (eg. CM6 for Evo 4g.. now everything works (maybe not 4g) but pretty much eerything, infact i heard it runs smoother than the original htc) Eg. For Evo 4g, Froyo upgrade was out even before company launched it with certain aspects like 4g not working. later not only the roms got developed but HTC also launched Froyo. Furthermore now another upgrade is floating (firmware ver. 3.30 which is supposed to increased the battery life by a significant margin) which is not yet official. It is critical that people develop for the phone in question, since there are at times many people working together to develop a custom rom. Hope I am able to answer all your queries. Gurus please feel free to correct me.. -
Which Is Better - 3G or EVDO?
gaurangbhartia replied to mailgujarat's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
Ofcourse most people know only 50% and its mostly because the info is not available on the internet... no matter how hard you try.... I tried downloading Data sheets from Qualcomm and CDMA authentication procedures and still wont wont have the required info properly... all contain big theories but not simple concise data that is required. Off Topic : Believe me I have tried searching for Each user field that is present in Qpst, but still have not found enough info to satisfy me. I am still searching for missing data ! You people know because it is your business or related to your business. And I am sure that the practical knowledge you gained came mostly from other people and not books. And with reference to someone posting something about people making money out of the knowledge present here, I would like to say that there are some people like me who are here only for interest sake. I never intend to make money by selling/programming handsets ! If I wanted to sell handsets, I'd rather try and affiliate myself with You or Saddik or other Gurus of the forum and concentrate on sales/expanding business rather than programming because by profession, I am into Accounts & Finance ! Lolz -
Thanks a lot !

Which Is Better - 3G or EVDO?
gaurangbhartia replied to mailgujarat's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
I never said that they are giving it officially ... I said that its a good sign that they have activated it on Saddik's mobile. I guess they also know that Saddik is into this business and expect that he will get this done on bulk. Therefore, they MIGHT be principally agreeing to activate it for him. Furthermore, if they are working with him for Hybrid prl as mentioned in the other post, it is another sign that they want to sell their services desperately. (Unless they dont know Saddik is working on a hybrid prl and has told them that it is only for evdo.. ) Secondly, though there is a chance of cloning Ev-do, it cannot be cloned unless you know the HH & AAA shared secrets(ofcourse you know a way to know that on the activated handsets), which (I don't know why) they don't push directly into the handset through OTA. And even if you tell the customer directly through a secure channel, the customer will not risk cloning his own account since he will only be billed for it. Furthermore, there are advanced algorithms in HLR to detect and block cloning, so you cannot clone EVDO unless you are in home network and the 'clone' in on visiting network. Also, EV-DO can be linked to MSID and if you find more than 1 login from the same msid, it can be blocked. I think that the problem here is that only a handful of customers are seeking this service and that is the reason they are ignoring it. I might be wrong about the above,as I am not as technically sound as you are... please do correct me if I am wrong ! (And please don't be mad at me .. ) -
Hello Everyone, I am writing this difference between the three phones i.e Samsung Epic 4g, HTC Evo 4g, and HTC Incredible as this question has been asked by a few fellow members and non-members. I will only list the major differences and not similarities/minor difference for the sake of shorter post. Display & Display Size : Epic 4g & Fascinate : Super AMOLED, 16M colors, 4.0" Incredible : AMOLED, 16M colors, 3.7" HTC Evo 4g : TFT, 65K Colors, 4.3" Remarks : SuperAmoled consumes less battery but TFT has more natural colours.SuperAmoled is most vibrant and sharp but at times colors feel unnatural. Dont get me wrong here, but this is of personal taste and you may not even notice a difference. Both Samsung Wins Camera, Secondary Camera, Flash : Epic 4g : 5 MP, VGA , Yes Dual Incredible : 8 MP, - (None) , Yes Dual HTC Evo 4g : 8 MP, 1.3 MP , Yes Single Fascinate : 5 MP, - (None) , Yes Single Remarks : One should not go on specs and see the actual picture to judge the camera rather than mega pixels. It also depends on sensor size which is not listed on any site. I have not compared the cameras myself. EVO Slightly Wins but all have good Performance Processor : Epic 4g & Facinate : ARM Cortex A8 1GHz (45nm dye size Hummingbird eats less power) HTC Evo 4G & Incredible : Snapdragon QSD8650 1 GHz (65nm dye size eats more power) Remarks : Samsung processor is considered best here as it is stated on some sites that it has better graphics acceleration and performance. The actual proccessor performance may be marginaly better but it is considered that graphic acceleration is significantly better. Both Samsung Wins Other Minor Differences : Dimensions & Weight : Epic 4g : 124 x 65 x 14 mm, 155 g Incredible : 117.5 x 58.5 x 11.9 mm, 130 g HTC Evo 4g : 122 x 66 x 13 mm, 170 g Fascinate : 125 x 64 x 10.5 mm, 116 g Fascinate Wins User Interface : Samsung Epic & Fascinate : TouchWiz 3.0 with Built in Swype As per Guarang (Touch Wiz have Better App Drawer where we can make Grouping of Applications, Folders, Quick On Of Button in Task Bar, In build Task Manager Task Killer, App Manager is Breeze), Built in Widget in Samsung is Better Except Clock, 5 Good Live Wallpaper in Samsung EVO & Incredible : HTC Sense (Look Good, Good Clock Widgets) Both Ties Battery : Samsung Epic & Fascinate : 1500 mAh Incredible : 1300 mAh HTC Evo 4g : 1500 mAh Personal Remarks : To me Dimensions and weight hardly matter with such minor differences. UI is a personal preference. I have heard that TouchWiz 3.0 is as good if not better than HTC Sense. Though personally I have just used it for 10 mins. I would personally say that both UIs are having very marginal difference which should not be a major consideration while choosing your phone. Battery life of Samsung Epic 4G will clearly be the best here due to SuperAmoled, though by how much I cannot say. Both Samsung Wins EPIC and Fascnate Gives almost Same life Sound : As per post by Muffy Bhai(mentioned below), Samsung Epic 4G contains wolfson audio chipset with Virtual 5.1 Ear Phones, so audio should be much better than the other 2. EPIC Wins Misc : HTC Evo 4G has mini HDMI Port (used to connect it to a TV/Projector to view the output) Fascinate has Bluetooth v3.0 but no Secondary Call Cam or wiMax (4g), DLNA: Fascinate and EPIC have allShare (Advanced DLNA) so you can Stream Music Phones Audio across Wifi Network, i can Open File Stored in PC on Phone and vise versa, I can play Video Stored on Phone Directly to Samsung or any DLNA Compatible TV EPIC: Yes Incredible: No EVO : No Fascinate : Yes Samsung Wins Scratch Resistence Glasses : EPIC : Yes Incredible : Yes EVO : Yes Fascinate : Yes Scratch Resistence Back Panel: EPIC : Yes EVO : Yes Incredible : Yes Fascinate : No CDMA Radio Throughput EVO : 4.5 Star Incredible : 4.7 Star EPIC : 3.9 Star Fascinate : 4 Star HTC Uses all in one MSM Chipset (CPU(Snapdragon)+Modem+GPS) Samsung Uses Slight Older QSC Chipset (Modem+GPS) HTC Wins in EVDO Speed and overall Radio Performance WiFi EPIC : WiFi N Incredible : WiFi G / (N Disabled to Conserve battery) but Using Custom ROM its Possible EVO : WiFi G / (N Disabled to Conserve battery) but Using Custom ROM its Possible Fascinate : WiFi N Samsung Wins (WiFi N uses less power in Idle Mode and give better Range and Error Corrections) Bluetooth Headset : HTC Wins (Better Reconnection and Reboot Detection) Polished ROM and Custom ROMs : HTC Wins Recovery Process : Samsung Wins ODIN is Simplest (Dont Mess with this though) Overall Looks : EPIC : 3.9 Star Incredible : 3.5 Star EVO : 4.5 Star Fascinate : 4.2 Star EVO Wins Video and Multimedia Performance Samsung WINS - it can play MKV DivX AVI MP4 all using GPU Accelaration, HTC only plays MP4 using GPU Accelaration and all other with CPU Bluetooth File Transfer Samsung Wins Remarks entered above are opinions based on reading a few websites, as I have not got a chance to test the phones personally. They may differ and if you find any remark incorrect, please notify me so that I can correct it. Furthermore, I advice people to read reviews before making a decision. Thanks ! Gaurang

Which Is Better - 3G or EVDO?
gaurangbhartia replied to mailgujarat's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
Technology wise CDMA can accomodate more subscribers in the same bandwidth which should translate to lower operating cost and hence cheaper rates. And as people have pointed out EVDO and HSDPA all have many flavors (read as revisions) . Kesav has already mentioned some technical aspects of the Indian Scenario. And I feel it is too pre-mature(read as too early) to discuss technology as such without knowing which ones will be launched in India & When. Now coming to Indian scenario : I think its too early to go for this debate this as well as : a) 3G still hasnt been launched (Except BSNL/MTNL which I dont think people are very keen on using) at a large scale. b ) We dont know what will be the rates and which circles we will be getting 3g and when, alongwith the actual(not theoretical max)download/upload speed that we will be getting. I agree with sougata on the points that GSM is better in the sense that it is VERY easy to change handset and no programming is required. And, in general, the re-sale value of handsets is more. However, in CDMA, the high-end handsets can be found a bit cheaper than their GSM counterparts. This does not hold true for mid-range handsets or handsets purchased from Service Providers who sell these at a very high rate. Also, Earlier, in CDMA the call rates were much cheaper though now the difference has reduced to marginal for light users and somewhat significant for heavy users (specially the ones roaming). I feel that the problems faced by the members of this forum are not due to the technology as such but due to the policies of service providers who might feel : a) that selling handsets is more important and if they don't provide service to customers who don't use their handsets, the customers will buy their handsets. b ) lack of technical feasibility and their mode of operating. Further more, with MTS activating EVDO, it is a great sign and it brings hope to general CDMA users as once MNP is launched other companies (Tata & Reliance) will be FORCED to activate services as they cannot risk loosing customers.I think they have already invested a lot and it would be foolish to let it just die out.
