Hello Everyone, I call upon the people of this forum to request Tata Indicom to activate EV-DO on the Non-Ruim devices. I have personally put a letter to Tata Indicom through their website with proper reasoning as to why they should do so. I request everyone to do the same. Although I am not sure whether this will make the Tata Indicom heads change their mind or not, but it may be well worth a try. Thanks Gaurang

^ By reading the posts , I think TATA is a hit and miss.. though one thing I have to agree is that they were quite co-operative with me regarding the activation of my phone. However, they refuse to activate EVDO. I am patiently waiting for MNP to come and the Telecom operators to start a price war... I wont shift immediately once MNP comes, but sooner or later after seeing the situation.

^ I dont think samsung will give them humming bird... samsung is in such a great demand that it stopped shipping lcd screens to htc.. thats why htc had trouble keeping up with the evo 4g demand when it was first launched... got sold out thrice on the sprint and best buy websites... And considering, PSP sells in numbers.. I mean BIG numbers ... they cant let that happen.... Though I agree humming bird is better performance wise... Though I'm surprised, they should have gone for dual core processors, which should be just round the corner..

^ I dont think they will pull put of CDMA as they have invested a lot in it. Infact their coverage is more in CDMA than with Docomo. As far as I know, they also have a bigger stake in TI. Moreover, by technology itself CDMA provides more subscribers to be online in the same bandwitdth. @Doc - I agree.. Btw,I guess even Hetal has good connections with them ... so he should not have faced a prob of 1/10 handsets...

I have an Evo with latest Froyo update (3.29), Market works fine with Wifi...Though I have not provisioned the phone with data at the moment. Btw, are you on a custom rom or stock rom ?

@ Hetal - That's really bad...Now I consider myself very very lucky that they activated my handset !

@Sougata - He means mail directly to Anil Sardana. @Sumit - They dont accept an ESN cause now they have shifted to a unified system wherein ALL accounts would need an Akey, be it ESN or MEID. Try giving them MEID with Akey, they might accept it(if you get lucky)

This does not seem to be a good price. Spice Mobile, Olive, Huawei, Movil etc are planning to launch Android Device with 528-600 Mhz processors with 3g within months from now. It will be better to buy that as you will get better functionality and additional phone alongwith better battery (this one seems to claim only 2.5 hrs which is way tooo less for a device of this type) for the same price as all these companies are looking at a $100-$110 price bracket for android phones. (eg. Huawei Ideos)!! Infact, 3g supports speeds upto 7.2 mbps ! so you'll be better off getting a gsm ideos for 5-7k (when it is launched) since you can change your operator freely as the phone will be sim based....no programming required ! This all ofcourse depends on the price of the phones that are launched

@dkaile - Could you please check with the headphones u got with the samsung and use it on both the handsets and let all of us know about the difference in sound quality, if it is perceptible or very similar ?

^^^ @rajanmehta - gud one ! @dkaile - When you say sound quality is twice as better, I just wanted to confirm... you used the same headset that came with samsung on both the devices ? After reading Dkaile's post - Anyone wanna buy my EVO 4g so that I can get Epic 4g ? (Just kidding... I have decided to keep HTC EVO 4g coz - bigger screen (though marginally) and natural colors... I find super amoled too unnatural. but thats just a personal preference. - Sleeker looking - Higher resolution camera - I already covered it with bodyguarz screen protector - Already Offically registered with Tata with same MEID And most importantly, I dont think anyone will be willing to give me enough for my EVO 4g so that I can get an Epic 4G ... If anyone is interested in my month old EVO 4g for Epic... I'll give it some serious thought

@Hetal Bhai - I cant seem to be able to edit the first post anymore... wanted to make a few changes - EVO 4g has DUAL Flash and not single flash as you mentioned. As for Wifi, wifi N can be enabled in both the HTCs so it should be mentioned. UI topic should not have a clear winner as both TouchWiz and Sense are similar but in some cases touchwiz is better as it allows you to group the applications and folders in a better way. Hence this should be left for personal preferences. Furthermore, please remove the similarities (eg sctrach resistant front panel) so that only differences come out and are easier to read. There are loads more similarities and features which are common to all which were not mentioned to highlight only the differences. But then again this is only my suggestion. Great job of enhancing the post though...

Try Swype and See. HTC have Lost in GPU try any Live Wallpaper it s**ks Try Bubble Wall Paper / Tap Tap Heart in both Samsung will be 3 time Faster Don't you think by using Swype, it will prove Dkaile's point that keyboard is not required... Besides Swype can be installed by using their beta (whoever is lucky enough to still have access to their site) and may soon be launched in android market. Though I agree with you that Epic is a better handset due to battery life, Gpu and sound.

@ HetalDP & DKaile - I would also like to be a part of this. Please email me a copy of the letters so I'll send it to TRAI/Relaince/Tata or whomsoever you want me to.. Also I suggest we should start a similar movement for EVDO services for foreign handsets.

@ Rajan Mehta - Thanks Mate ! I did expand on the differences as per your suggestion. @ Dkaile - I personally agree with you for the keyboard part. Even I have got an EVO 4g and prefer a phone without keyboard as I dont find any use for it ! . As for Sense vs TouchWiz, I dont think it is that major a difference that one should choose one phone for the other. Personally, I am very happy with my HTC EVO 4G due to bigger display so it works out for me. But all these are personal tastes and preferences, I guess... some people dont want to buy the phone without a keyboard. @ Sougata - No need to be in confusion... The whole point of putting the post is to tell people that the hansets are very very similar... Just try and get the best deal that you get. @ All - Personally, I would either go in for HTC Evo 4G or Samsung Epic due to - Bigger diplay & Secondary call camera.If you getting EVDO, secondary call camera will be usefull for video calling. If you are not using data connection, the secondary call cam is not going to be that useful. Epic is specification wise the best here, though personally I don't like phones with keyboard as they tend to become bulky and I have never seen the need to use the keyboard. HTC Evo 4g has a bad battery life though (Mine lasts till 7pm till the eve. But also consider that my talktime is atleast 1 hr a day topping out at 2-2.5 hrs. )

^^ You have to give them an Akey with your MEID/ESN. You also have to feed the same Akey on your handset. Once this is done, you will have to activate the handset by dialing *228. I suggest you get in touch with technical support and/or the Tat Hub. (Btw, U can even ask Sadik Bhai, Muffy Bhai etc... they might be able to help you better for registration) If you have already escalated it to nodal, ask them to generate an Akey and you feed it in your handset. With tata that is always the better option. It also depends on whether you are using prepaid or postpaid. You first have to get your phone registered with prepaid department before getting it activated on postpaid. If you are directly trying to activate on postpaid, it will not work.

Does Desire HD boot fast cause of ROM ? If yes, then I guess it will soon be ported to other phones like HTC Evo & Incredible !

Doesn't 8830 accept ruim card ? you can get an OMH sim for tata, transfer your number to it and insert it in 8830 to use it .... PS: I am assuming that you have the world edition of 8830 and that omh sims work in 8830 (my reliance ruim works)... Its worth a try... One more thing...don't activate the omh sim using this phone...use any tata ruim enabled phone to transfer your number to the omh sim and once the new sim is activated, insert it in your 8830.... Do lemme know.... I'll try my best to help you in whatever way i can..

Ok... Here is a bit more in simple english... Akey is required to be generated if you purchase(or sum1 gifts u.. )a foreign CDMA handset AND it has MEID AND you want to activate it with Tata ( i dunno whether other ISPs like Reliance, MTS etc use akey or not) without putting it to the e$n mode. If above is the case, then you need to generate an akey, feed it in the handset and give the SAME akey that you generated for registration with Tata Indicom to make the calls work. If your phone is already activated and you are able to make calls, then no need to bother seeing this section. OR If you have purchased you phone from Rimweb community members (Like Saddik, Muffy, Dkaile, HetalDP, Hitesh, and others) .. then no need to worry... they would have already done the needful before your phone reaches you. @ hetal bhai - My intention is not to confuse people. It is to help anyone who needs some info for akey, since this is not available anywhere on the web. I have specifically posted this on the technical/programming section for the same reason. Furthermore, I had assumed/hoped that people who read this thread will already know about the Akey (since you need to know about Akey before knowing how to generate it)... thats why the title is "Akey Generation - Points to remember.. " not just Akey... Btw, feel free to close the thread if you think that this thread is inappropriate.... @Evrey1else- Akey is used only to activate/make outgoing calls(Voice). I think Muffy bhai told me Akey is not related to EVDO. PS: PUTTING WRONG AKEY WILL BLOCK YOUR PHONE. So Please be careful while doing anything related to it.

Anyone managed to get evdo speeds on tata indicom so far ( On Evo 4G ) ?

Hi Every1 ! Anyone installed Froyo (rooted custom rom) ? If yes, then what is your PRI version ? Does it get downgraded ? (the latest is 1.40_3 i guess)

@ @mitJ@in - Rooting is easy for HTC Evo 4G... Dunno abt Incredible... And unlike using QPST, its relatively harmless ! I mean the chance to get a brick is negligible...
