It looks like the delay in adopting new series is purposefully delayed by the incumbent telecom operators. Since the number series is changing to "140", there's clear fear among key landline operators like BSNL, MTNL & Airtel. They fear that there'll be mass exodus to Reliance and TATA due to their better tariff. After all, the land line telemarketing corporate segment is the highest ARPU segment. Most of the corporates are stuck with existing operators inspite of very bad service and tariff only to retain their numbers. When they know that due to introduction of new series, their number is going to change, they're planing to shift to better operator.

Reversal is true. Auction can never be helpful for new players. There could be something somewhere which is better than FCFS as far as pro-competitive is concerned but certainly not the auction.

I plead again not to run the arguments based on these frivolous malicious reporting. These figures are just paid campaign by vested interests to turn the tide towards them. The real figures can only be released by TRAI and DoT and nobody else can have those figures.

I'm bit confused due to this thread. I was of the opinion that MEID/ESN is an equipment identifier stored only in mobile phones and not in RUIMs. RUIMs will have different identifier called UIMID. Your mobile number will be tied with UIMID in case you own RUIM and not with MEID/ESN of the phone into which you've inserted the RUIM. The network will not bother about MEID/ESN for RUIM based phones. MEID/ESN of such phones are used only to validate the legality of its existence and not for subscriber validation.

Absolutely, most of the people does not have time and patience to fight for these petty cash. Each operator may have quarterly target of Rs.50 from each subscriber. For a subscriber, it's just Rs. 50 every quarter so he may get fed up after 2-level of escalations and leave it as alms for the operator. But it's huge huge free money for the operators..... I feel it's high time for TRAI to take cognizance of this open loot and device a mandatory template process for secured activation of VAS.
