Interesting MNP Referral incentives for Reliance employees
kesav replied to city02's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
This offer is very nice. Success rate may be very low but it's better to attempt rather than not doing anything. All the best RCOM for your attempt. :good: -
No chance for all telecom companies to come together when the current policy is so much in favor of old telecom operators. Only 4-5 companies are going to be affected by these TRAI recommendations for next 2-3 years. so most of the new operators will keep away from the protest and they further plead with Govt to move faster in this direction. Blaming Govt for TRAI recommendations shows total ignorance on the subject. Why TRAI recommended multi-fold increase in spectrum charges? It's purely due to foolish propaganda carried on by senseless media. If you want to determine the market price then there's no other choice. Media never educated themselves on the revenue-welfare trade-off. You cannot call "MGNREGA" as scam when it drains revenue for providing livelihood for under privileged. You cannot call "subsidy to oil companies on diesel price" as scam when it is done to keep the transportation charges under control. You cannot call "Govt fixed procurement prices of different grains" (which is well above the whole-sale market price) as scam when it is done save the lives of farmers. Scam may existed in telecom ministry but certainly not on the policy of "first come first serve" or its price of the spectrum. Time for everyone to learn the truth in a hard way.................

Dear friend,on any day 1X data experience is far more superior and consistent than EDGE experience. Sporadically you may have faster EDGE speed but never consistent. So obviously pricing will be in proportion to the user experience.

TATA’s Unending Quest For A Telecom Strategy
kesav posted a topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Tata’s Unending Quest For a Telecom Strategy source :: http://business.in.com/article/boardroom/tatas-unending-quest-for-a-telecom-strategy/22112/1 A very nice article on TATA's telecom and I recommend everyone to read it. From the beginning, I always had the opinion that having 2 separate brands for GSM & CDMA is futile. At least now they've realized their mistake and planing to merge. Merged entity will probably retain the name of TATA Docomo. Another good thing is their plan to develop synergy between TATA communications and (TTSL&TTML). On the policy side, only way to bring back the level playing field is to re-farm 900 MHz spectrum as recommended by TRAI. Ask all the current operators in 900 MHz to give back the spectrum and get equivalent amount in 1800 MHz. 900 MHz is needed for LTE auction in future. All the operators having excess spectrum beyond 6.2 MHz either has to pay one-time charge or vacate. -

Apple could become biggest firm in world by next year, analysts claim source :: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/8315152/Apple-could-become-biggest-firm-in-world-by-next-year-analysts-claim.html

Dear Kanaga, There's no choice for paying spectrum charges as for as 900 MHz is concerned. TRAI has not done any calculation for the price of 900 MHz spectrum since they want it to be surrendered ASAP. It's also the most critical step needed to be executed immediately to bring level playing field in our telecom industry. Pay or vacate option is only for the excess spectrum beyond 6.2 MHz in 1800 MHz

Government to come out with New Telecom Policy 2011: Sibal
kesav replied to Honest's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Dear members, kindly follow the discussion on the above topic in the below thread. -
One important thing which everyone should understand. This pricing will not affect the new operators till they reach subscriber level of 6.2 MHz. In that sense there's no issue for competition.
-
Can't understand this logic - you really want millions of telecom consumers to suffer higher tariffs just to "teach the fools who are crying on the notional loss"? Btw, notional loss aside, there has definitely been a lot of foul play regarding the telecom scandal. Aren't you forgetting the other other issues that constitute the scam? I would strongly oppose any move that increases tariffs. Sibal's contention that competition will keep a check on tariffs seems like utter nonsense. If costs go up, tariffs will increase, this way or that. Further what about tariff plans that are already in place? Esp. post paid plans... and evne some pre-paid ones that come with lifetime tariff validity? If costs increase significantly and telcos cannot increase tariffs, it will bleed them. Telcos have to make a reasonable profit, if they are to provide for costs, network expansion and good service. I completely agree with each and every point. I said that in frustration. Due to foolish trumpeting of 'loss to exchequer' theory by paid media, we've now reached a point of no return as far as tariff increase is concerned. I never ever accept increase of tariff when our rural tele-density is just 30%. There were procedural irregularities (in your terms 'foul play') which must be focus of the investigations and not this crappy theory of 'loss to exchequer'.

Referring post, What Sibal has to do with report? If Shourie feels report is not correct, let him attack the retired Judge who made the report... By attacking Sibal, Shourie discredits the work of a former supreme court judge. This is totally uncalled for..... Sibal is just consumer of the report as much Shourie is. I really feel everyone in BJP have lost their brains. Everything is politicized. I think they'll start blaming Govt even for tremors(earth quake) felt in NE. :rofl_200: :rofl_200: The most hilarious part is that he made those comments even before the report was made public. It only shows that he wants to make ill-informed political comments rather than thorough reviewed sensible comments.

Mobile Number Portability (MNP): Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
kesav replied to rajanmehta's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
Finally, TRAI has released MNP consumer guide. http://www.trai.gov.in/mnconsumerguide.pdf  @Rajan, can we place the link to TRAI's MNP user guide in FAQ? I'm bit disappointed on missing clarifications in the consumer guide on the following. (1) Is a prepaid to postpaid conversion of the same operator comes under mandatory 90 days period? (2) Is conversion from GSM to CDMA or vice-versa of the same dual tech operator comes under mandatory 90 days period? I plead with TRAI to answer both question as "NO".- 242 replies

Here are the official releases on the spectrum pricing. http://www.trai.gov.in/WriteReadData/trai/upload/PressReleases/797/prspectrummndiv9feb11.pdf http://www.trai.gov.in/WriteReadData/trai/upload/Recommendations/127/Lettertosectdotmndiv9feb11.pdf http://www.trai.gov.in/WriteReadData/trai/upload/Recommendations/127/reportmndive9feb11.pdf It's really a strong scientific calculation of spectrum price.  :hi2: Although it's certainly going to raise the tariff, but I feel it's the only way to teach the fools who are crying on the notional loss (1.76 Lakh Crore) to exchequer. It's pain in the heart but happy in the brain. As expected, Airtel & Vodafone started making noises. I feel bad for them but some or the other day natural justice will prevail. Big companies have to be magnanimous enough to accept the reality. The clear message from this recommendation are the following (1) 900 MHz will be re-farmed (2) Old operators have to pay the same price for contractual spectrum(6.2 MHz) as new operators on renewal of their licenses (3) Current operators holding excess spectrum beyond 6.2 MHz in 1800 MHz will be asked to surrender or pay one-time price (4) Price of the spectrum differs circle-wise (5) There are 2 separate pricing for spectrum till 6.2 MHz and there after. (6) Highest spectrum price is for TN and the lowest is for J&K

Here is the official press release. http://www.olivetelecom.in/olive-news.html It's an awesome phone at this price point. :signthankspin: I'm bit disappointed though, when olive has gone for MSM8255, it could have easily opted for MSM8655. That would have brought in EVDO Rev A/B in addition to HSPA+ at little extra cost.

TATA’s Unending Quest For A Telecom Strategy
kesav replied to kesav's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
This is exactly the problem. CDMA operators had started EVDO services over modem as a broadband only services and not as 3G services. So they were forced to ensure that the services were only in modems and that too without any voice capability Even now, no single private operator is ready to call EVDO as 3G since they may face wrath of GSM operators. It's high time for DoT and TRAI to complete the CDMA 3G auction ASAP at least as a formality even if there are no takers. It'll free the CDMA operators from the regulatory mist surrounding their EVDO operations and provide complete flexibility for the operators and subscribers. -
BSNL Launches Zero Rental Broadband Plan
kesav replied to Honest's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
@inception and @Rajan, I feel this plan will fail miserably even if the rent is around Rs. 10. The goal of this plan is to convert reluctant lanline-only users to broadband users. It immediately coverts all the landline-only users to broadband users who owns modem at zero cost. Hypothesis:: Assume that I'm not interested in broadband due to its recurring cost. I'm ignorant about the benefits of e-services and e-life. One of my relatives visits my house. While the time was passing over the chit chat, he gets a call and so he urgently wants to book a ticket through his laptop which he had carried. With the help of this plan he books e-ticket in front of me thus arising curiosity in me. I browse sporadically to get the feel of internet and try to understand what my relative did. If user experience enthralls me, obviously I'll subscribe to Rs. 250 plan listed below to start my broadband life forever. http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/new_BB/BB_Standalone_lim.htm -
It's time Govt makes a firm statement that "JPC is not acceptable" till SC & PAC verdicts. This govt is too feeble and weak and never makes its stand firm. It's time to prove to the people of India that it can protect the functions of constitutional institutes being hijacked. Let the opposition parties decide their own course of action. If opposition continues any unruly behavior, it's the onus of responsibility on speakers to evict them out of the houses and run the parliament. "JPC is not acceptable" is Govt's clear position. Parliament must run is democracy's requisite. Both has to happen irrespective of whether opposition likes or not. Allowing JPC at this stage is utter foolishness and it'll only serve to disrupt and disrespect the constitutional authorities'(CBI,ED,SC & PAC) ongoing investigations. If JPC is needed, why on earth we need SC,CBI,ED & PAC ?? Let us dismantle all our constitutional bodies and then constitute JPC as the only investigating & judicial agency at the centre.

BSNL Launches Zero Rental Broadband Plan
kesav replied to Honest's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
It's lovely plan for broadband starters. I feel BSNL should have introduced this plan quite long back. Most Indians have taste and take mentality instead of hear/read and take. You could see this in most sweet&spicy stalls. I hope BSNL can convert most of their land-line only customers to broadband customers through this plan slowly. -
Disruption won't pay off, BJP leaders concede source :: http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/article1159224.ece?homepage=true Finally, reality bites BJP. At last, some sense has descended upon on the organization which is well known of egoism and arrogance. Even under extra-ordinary circumstances, it's imperative upon legislative to function. That's when our democracy can survive. Unless and otherwise legislative functions, there's no one to monitor the functioning of Executive and Judiciary. After all, our legislative only works for 1/4 of an year against full year functioning of our executive and judiciary. Any sensible citizen can imagine the quantum of tasks lying in front of legislative which has been created due to the round the clock functioning of executive and judiciary. The task of running parliament rests with each and every member of parliament. An MP who blocks the parliament is actually making mockery of the people who have elected him from his constituency. JPC is irrelevant till the verdicts of SC and PAC. Even if BJP has other opinion on the matter it's undemocratic for BJP to block parliament from functioning. BJP can only place the request of JPC before Govt and it can never dictate it. If govt reject it, I plead with BJP(if it has guts) to take it to the streets and convince people of India to get majority in the next election and constitute JPC then. This is the way our democracy functions......... Please don't dictate the Govt. when you're a minority in the parliament. It's like imposing wisdom of minority of the people over the majority of the people. It's totally undemocratic.......
