  1. I'm not at all surprised about Olive initially launching in Russia. Reasons:: It's world's first device that supports EVDO Rev. B(14.7 Mbps) and HSDPA Category 10 (14.4 Mbps) So embedded Qualcomm chip will have price premium which in turn makes the olive device to cost in premium current EVDO Rev. A (3.1 Mbps) modems in India are priced at Rs. 1600 current HSDPA category 8 (7.2 Mbps) modems in India are priced at Rs. 2500 Marketable price for this device in India cannot exceed Rs. 4100 ( Rs. 1600 + Rs. 2500) European market is premium market for telecommunication where people will be ready to pay for latest technologies Russia has 3 operators with EVDO Rev. B soft launch
  2. MNP Experience

Dear Dr. Hari, I feel this separate topic is not needed. It would have been better if you have shared your experience in the below thread. Please take it positively. I beg with fellow members not to start further topics in MNP. You can certianly fit your thoughts in any one of the existing topics. Only spirit behind this appeal is to keep the forum clean. Dear Admins, Try to see whether there is possibility to merge this topic with
  3. Apple to Bring iPad in India on January 28 source :: http://www.techtree.com/India/News/Apple_to_Bring_iPad_in_India_on_January_28/551-114260-615.html
  4. Television Orders - TRAI

Finally all the DTH operators have A-la-Carte pricing on their n/w. By analyzing the implementation methodology of different operators the following can be made out. Overall there are 3 types of packagings (1) Basic packages (2) Bouquets (3) A-la-Carte channels Airtel, Videocon & Reliance do not allow mixing of A-la-Carte channels with either basic packages or Bouquets. Only pure A-la-Carte is allowed. Sun & Dish mandate users to subscribe to any one of the basic packages before selecting A-la-Carte channels. No provision for pure A-la-Carte. They do not allow mixing A-la-Carte with Bouquets TATA Sky allows mixing subscription package with A-la-Carte channels. TATA also allows pure A-la-Carte channels. TATA does not allow mixing A-la-Carte with Bouquets Comparatively TATA Sky implementation is by far the best but still does not meet the true spirit of mixing A-la-Carte channels with bouquets. TRAI must intervene and make amendments in such a way bouquets can also be mixed with A-la-Carte channels. Is it logical to mandate a DTH operator that if he chooses to buy a channel from one broadcaster in A-la-Carte basis then he should buy all the channels from all broadcasters only in A-la-carte basis??? When DTH operators have the flexibility of mixing bouquets with A-la-Carte channels when they aggregate, why can't they pass on such benefit to consumers when they distribute??? :confuse: :confuse:
  5. Apple iPad in India

Well said my dear friend. TRAI has initiated the consultation on the subject. Let us hope it fructifies....... http://www.trai.gov.in/WriteReadData/trai/upload/PressReleases/784/pr28dec10tdra.pdf http://www.trai.gov.in/WriteReadData/trai/upload/ConsultationPapers/235/consultaionpapertdradiv28dec10.pdf http://www.trai.gov.in/comments.asp http://www.trai.gov.in/WriteReadData/trai/upload/misc/150/trai25jan11ohd.pdf
  6. Will they(BJP's Telecom Consumer Cell) meaningfully take up issues listed in the topic and the post? I appreciate this initiative but I prefer it to be rather multi-party cell. Out of all the wishes, my priority is certainly on 'allowing VOIP between computers and telephones(landlines/mobiles) within India'. TRAI has given recommendations to DoT some years ago but still DoT not able to find auspicious time to dust and open and read it. This one small step has potential to create revolution in telecom sector and make voice to be charged in bits rather than in seconds.
  7. I believe you're completely loaded against CDMA and very particularly against RCOM. Even if I bring stories after stories on how much Airtel & Vodafone cheats their customers, you'll put up counter arguments. Fortunately or unfortunately both of us are correct wrt our own space and time. Telecom experience is a function of time and space and each user will have different experiences on different operators. You want see RCOM's peanuts as pumpkins;Airtel's pumpkins as peanuts. There's no cure for that. Let me tell you one universal truth. "Not all popular brands are quality brands. Not all quality brands are popular brands" In developed countries the above truth applies to 10% of total brands. But in India it applies to almost 70% of the brands. It's because average Indian never cares to research before buying. Most often he blindly believes the words of his friends/relatives. Hence most often you'll end up having first market entered brands as popular brands in India.

  11. HSDPA/EVDO USB Modems

Really amazing find Karthik. Let us hope Reliance/TATA/BSNL will bring home the device.
  12. Apple iPad in India

Almost all mobile companies treat India as dumping ground for their older models. Apple dumbs current version of their phones/netbooks/tablets just 2-3 months prior to the launch next version in US. RIM always dumbs buggy versions of their blackberries just 1 month prior to launch their bug-fixed versions in US. Only Korean companies (Samsung & LG) have closer launches in India against other developed markets. Unless we as Indians boycott buying such obsolete devices, these US/European companies will continue to show their 'white skin is superior' mentality.
  13. Your question is already answered in the post 24 above...
  14. Samsung Fascinate Now Official With Reliance

Can someone clarify what are plans available in RCOM for using EVDO in mobile and also for EVDO-tethering?
  15. Reliance is going great in 3G. Now they've list of cities covered by 3G in their website. http://www.rcom.co.in/Rcom/personal/3G/HTML/index.html (look at right hand side of the webpage) It's a way to go....... Undoubtedly Reliance has become no. 1 in terms of 3G coverage with about 550 cities/towns in EVDO complimented effectively with 9 cities in HSDPA. :clap1: TATA docomo which has started 3G few months earlier still don't have list of cities covered by their 3G in their webpage.

  17. Apple iPad in India

Here's just amazing offer from BSNL for Ipad. http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/3G/3G_files/ipad_dataplans.htm May be initially one can take Rs. 4200 for unlimited 6 months and then after 6 months one can jump over to this pack Rs. 999 unlimited....... BSNL is really making waves these days with its amazing tariffs. :hi2:
  18. Dear Friends, Please don't run your arguments based on the recent figures appearing in different media websites/news papers. All these figures mostly are fudged and the articles are paid campaigns to somehow retain the potential jump-overs. The figures released by MNP operator can only be trusted upon and rest can only be trashed. Let us hold our breath and wait for the official figure from Syniverse for Dec for Haryana.
  19. My dear friend, you're really taken for a ride. If your porting process is greater than 7 days it's just illegal and the operator needs to be punished. Prepaid takes less time and postpaid takes more time is totally unacceptable. It clearly shows that the operator is purposefully delaying the post-paid port out. He has security deposit against which he can claim your incremental(after your last month's bill payment) usage? What else is the difference? Please highlight such issues to TRAI/DoT/Telecom Minister. It'll take not more than 5-10 minutes of your time. Let us be very patient till the prescribed time(7 days from port-in request at recipient operator) but equally impatient immediately after that. Don't subscribe yourself to our national attitude of "It'll happen when it has to happen..........I'll keep waiting & reminding him with soft words........" It's time for TRAI to make an amendment which penalize the operator of Rs. 50 per day delay and such amount to be credited into subscriber's recipient operator's account. This will act as a incentive for subscriber to be vigilant and which in turn bring order into the MNP system.
  20. You've made the point of India that people stay in Voda/Airtel only due to compulsion and never by intent.
  21. Samsung Breeze B209

Breeze B209 looks like non-OMH phone. RWorld programmed into handset. Advanced Mobile Tracker 2.0 1000 Contact Phone book memory and 200 SMS Storage 1000 mAh Powerful Battery Indian Calendar http://in.samsungmobile.com/mobile-phones/samsung-breeze-b209
  22. Govt. can now categorically declare that effective from 1st Feb 2011 BES will be banned in India. Enough is enough..... We don't want to hear any more lecture from west... Let Govt. ban BES and see how much GDP is going down..... :P The most interesting point here in the whole issue is that RIM adamantly continues to hold onto the lie that they can't decrypt the mails which is totally a cheating game.
